A numerical study of anti-vortex film-cooling holes designs in a 1-1/2 turbine stage using LES

The primary focus of the present study is to investigate the impact of anti-vortex holes design on the film-cooling performance in a film-cooled rotor blade model using the large eddy simulation method(LES).One row of the film holes was positioned on the pressure surface of the rotor *** row had three cylindrical holes(the main hole in the present study)with a diameter(D)of 4 mm and a tangential injection angle of 28 *** main hole supplemented with the addition of two symmetrical side holes(anti-vortex holes),which branch out from the same main *** positions for the anti-vortex side holes were considered;namely:upstream to the outlet of the main hole;in line with the main hole;and downstream of the main *** Reynolds number was fixed at Re Z 1.92105 and the speed of the rotor blade was taken to be 1800 *** blowing ratio varied from 1.0 to 5.0 and the density ratio of coolant to mainstream was *** to the base hole,the film cooling performance of the all anti-vortex cases showed obvious improvement at all blowing *** middle stream side holes and downstream side holes each demonstrated good film cooling performance at all blowing ratios,while the upstream side holes perform well only at a lower blowing *** presence of side holes can restrain the CRVP(counter rotating vortex pairs)intensity of the main hole and reduce the coolant lift-off,improving the film coverage and film cooling *** downstream side holes can perform better in reducing the CRVP intensity.

The current study aims to develop polyvinyl chloride(PVC)nanocomposites with enhanced electrical and mechanical properties by incorporating titanium oxide(TiO_(2))nanoparticles within PVC *** loading of nanoparticles and different nanoparticle surface states were *** surface states are unfunctionalised,functionalised using vinyl silane and functionalised using amino *** choice of a most suitable surface state was a critical factor that guarantees a good dispersion of nanoparticles and consequently enhances the compatibility between TiO_(2)and PVC *** process followed in the PVC/TiO_(2)nanocomposites preparation,loaded with different wt.%of TiO_(2)nanoparticles,was the solvent *** dielectric properties measured here were the relative permittivity(ɛr),dielectric loss(tanδ),breakdown strength(AC and DC under uniform field)and the internal partial discharges(PDs)within insulation *** measurements have been performed under room temperature and at frequency ranged from 20 to 1.0 ***,the mechanical properties of the samples like elongation,elasticity modulus and tensile strength were also *** silane showed better improvements in both electrical and mechanical performances compared to the amino silane,especially in cases of high weight fractions of TiO_(2).This is because of the improvement in the PVC-TiO_(2)interfacial region arise from the similarity of polarity and surface tension values of vinyl silane with that of PVC matrix and TiO_(2)nanoparticles.

Controlling feedback control systems in continuous action spaces has always been a challenging ***,reinforcement learning is mainly an area of artificial intelligence(AI)because it has been used in process control for more than a ***,the existing algorithms are unable to provide satisfactory ***,this research uses a reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm to manage the control *** propose an adaptive speed control of the motor system based on depth deterministic strategy gradient(DDPG).The actor-critic scenario using DDPG is implemented to build the RL *** addition,a framework has been created for traditional feedback control systems to make RL implementation easier for control *** RL algorithms are robust and proficient in using trial and error to search for the best *** proposed algorithm is a deep deterministic policy gradient,in which a large amount of training data trains the *** the system is trained,the agent can automatically adjust the control *** algorithm has been developed using Python 3.6 and the simulation results are evaluated in the mATLAB/Simulink *** performance of the proposed RL algorithm is compared with a proportional integral derivative(PID)controller and a linear quadratic regulator(LQR)*** simulation results of the proposed scheme are promising for the feedback control problems.

An Analogue of the Z4-Goethals Code in Non-Primitive Length

This paper constructs a cyclic Z_4-code with a parity-check matrix similar to that of Goethals code but in length 2~m+ 1, for all m ≥ 4. This code is a subcode of the lifted Zetterberg code for m even. Its minimum Lee weight is shown to be at least 10, in general, and exactly 12 in lengths 33, 65. The authors give an algebraic decoding algorithm which corrects five errors in these lengths for m = 5, 6 and four errors for m > 6.

Numerical and experimental analyses of rock failure mechanisms due to microwave treatment

Despite the extensive studies conducted on the effectiveness of microwave treatment as a novel rock preconditioning method,there is yet to find reliable data on the rock failure mechanisms due to microwave *** addition,there is no significant discussion on the energy efficiency of the method as one of the important factors among the mining and geotechnical engineers in the *** study presents a novel experimental method to evaluate two main rock failure mechanisms due to microwave treatment without applying any mechanical forces,*** and concentrated *** result shows that the existence of a small and concentrated fraction of a strong microwave absorbing mineral will change the failure mechanism from the distributed heating to the concentrated heating,which can increase the weakening over microwave efficiency(WOmE)by more than 10 *** observation is further investigated using the developed coupled numerical *** is shown that at the same input energy,the existence of microwave absorbing minerals can cause major heat concentration inside the rock and increase the maximum temperature by up to three times.

In this paper,we present a new approach for complex system design,which allows rapid,efficient and low-cost *** approach can simplify designing tasks and go faster from system modeling to effective hardware *** multi-domain systems requires different engineering competences and several tools,our approach gives a unique design environment,based on the use of VHDL-AmS modeling language and FPGA device within the same design *** approach is intended to enhance hardware-in-the-loop(HIL)practices with a more realistic simulation which improve the verification process in the system design *** paper describes the implementation of a software/hardware platform as a practical support for our approach,the feasibility and the benefits of this approach are demonstrated through a practical case study for power converter *** obtained results show that the developed method achieves significant speed-up compared with conventional simulation,with a minimum used resources and minimum latency.

Case Study of Three Arab American Language Identity： Bilingual, Binational, or Both

Growing applied linguistics research has discussed the upsurge of the usage of Arabic language among Arabic speakers in the United States （Bale, 2010; Sehlaoui, 2008）; language contact and conflict among Arab Americans （AAs）（Rouchdy, 2002）; and how mobility--both virtual and physical--influences their identities （Duff, 2015） This study researches how AAs define their affiliation to the Arabic language in the United States to understand their attitudes on language variety and ethnic diversity, religion and identity, and stereotypes of Arabs. After analyzing interviews, all three AA participants self-selected their identity based on linguistic and physical contexts Thus, the findings suggest further research on AAs should consider cyber identity as a factor for bilingual speakers and compare it with Arabic speakers in their home country

A phased approach to enable hybrid simulation of complex structures

Hybrid simulation has been shown to be a cost-effective approach for assessing the seismic performance of structures. In hybrid simulation,critical parts of a structure are physically tested,while the remaining portions of the system are concurrently simulated computationally,typically using a finite element model. This combination is realized through a numerical time-integration scheme,which allows for investigation of full system-level responses of a structure in a cost-effective manner. However,conducting hybrid simulation of complex structures within large-scale testing facilities presents significant challenges. For example,the chosen modeling scheme may create numerical inaccuracies or even result in unstable simulations; the displacement and force capacity of the experimental system can be exceeded; and a hybrid test may be terminated due to poor communication between modules(e.g.,loading controllers,data acquisition systems,simulation coordinator). These problems can cause the simulation to stop suddenly,and in some cases can even result in damage to the experimental specimens; the end result can be failure of the entire experiment. This study proposes a phased approach to hybrid simulation that can validate all of the hybrid simulation components and ensure the integrity largescale hybrid simulation. In this approach,a series of hybrid simulations employing numerical components and small-scale experimental components are examined to establish this preparedness for the large-scale experiment. This validation program is incorporated into an existing,mature hybrid simulation framework,which is currently utilized in the multi-Axial Full-Scale Sub-Structuring Testing and Simulation(mUST-SIm) facility of the George E. Brown Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation(NEES) equipment site at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
