The microtuber is considered one of the most effective means of spreading basic materials, as well as transporting and preserving potato germplasm varieties. To define the optimal conditions for the potato microtuber in vitro germination of Aida, Atlas and Odessa varieties, the effects of temperature, physiological age and grade (size) were evaluated. The study conducted at three different temperature levels has demonstrated that the most favorable temperature for microtuber germination at a higher and faster germination rate was 25℃, regardless of the variety. In addition, microtubers of large caliber, greater than 4 mm, germinate more quickly, with a higher germination rate, than smaller size ones (less than 4 mm) for all genotypes. For Atlas, Aida and Odessa varieties, a germination rate equal to 86.66%, 70% and 70% respectively, was obtained for microtubers with a caliber superior to 4 mm. Physiological age influences microtuber germination. The mean length of sprouts, reached after a 7 week incubation period, was more marked at “multiple sprout” and “branched sprout” stages than at a “monosprout” stage. The average length was 2.35 cm, 2.48 cm and 1.5 cm, respectively. Thus, it is necessary to plant microtubers at a “multiple sprout” stage to optimize their yield in plants and minitubers.

Annona senegalensis is a savannah species present in the wild in tropical and sub-tropical African regions. It is used by the local populations for its many economic, pharmacological, nutritional and ecological interests. However, the strong pressure exerted on this species as well as the increasing degradation of the ecosystems, in which it evolves, seriously compromise its sustainability and development. Conventional methods of vegetative propagation are not sufficient to ensure its durable regeneration and the renewal of endemic populations in Senegal. In this context, it was undertaken in vitro propagation, from 30 days old juvenile seedlings. Thus, axillary, cotyledonary and apical nodes were in vitro cultured in Murashige and Skoog (1962) medium (MS), with different concentrations of cytokinins and/or auxins. BAP used alone at 2 mg•L−1 proved to be more beneficial for micropropagation of different types of explants compared to Kinetin used alone or in combination with BAP, especially for axillary and cotyledonary nodes. The BAP-NAA combination allowed to have a better elongation of newly formed shoots. For shoots of apical and cotyledonary nodes origin, a rhizogenic induction of 5 days, with IBA at 25 mg•L−1, resulted in a better rooting rate with, respectively, 75% (for 2.22 roots) and 66.67% (for 4.17 roots). For newly formed shoots of axillary origin, a 24-hour rooting induction with IBA at 50 mg•L−1 gave a rooting rate of 58.33% (for 2.4 roots). After 30 days of acclimatization, the survival rate was 75% for the young plants from the apices and 83.33% for those originating from the cotyledonary and axillary nodes. This protocol can therefore be adopted for the in vitro clonal propagation of A. senegalensis juvenile material.

Annona muricata L. and Annona squamosa L. are tropical species whose fleshy fruit is edible. They offer real possibilities for socio-economic use, particularly in the fields of medicine, nutrition, ecosystem conservation and the poverty alleviation. This study was set up to evaluate different methods of micropropagation from juvenile material for the regeneration of these species. Thus, MS medium supplemented with [BAP 2 mg·L-1] i.e. M2 produced 2.87 newly formed shoots from the cotyledonary nodes of A. muricata. For the terminal apices of A. squamosa, it was MMS medium supplemented with [BAP 2 mg·L-1] i.e. MM2 that was most conducive to new shoot formation (3.12). The addition of 0.1 and 0.2 mg·L-1 of NAA in the M2 medium, made it possible to have the best elongations and average number of nodes for the new shoots from cotyledonary nodes of A. muricata (9.11 cm for 5.62 nodes). With A. squamosa, MM7 medium [MMS + BAP 1 mg·L-1 + KIN 1 mg·L-1] resulted in an average length of 9.05 cm with 5.62 nodes on average for the apical shoots. A 3-day rhizogenic induction period in the dark with [IBA 50 mg·L-1] and 2 g·L-1 of activated charcoal gave a rooting rate of 66.67% for shoots originating from the cotyledonary nodes of A. squamosa;while with vitroplants from cotyledonary nodes of A. muricata, a better rooting rate (83.33%) was obtained following a 5-day rhizogenic induction. This paper describes the theoretical model for calculating IV-curve of parallel vertical silicon solar cells (SCs) based on solving diffusion-recombination equation for such SC, which was suggested that two IV curve zones (those which are close to the short current and open circuit points) can be linearized. This linearalization allows obtaining the values of shunt (Rsh) and series (Rs) resistances. The evolution of the electric power based on these resistances was illustrated to show the values that shunt and series resistances must have to obtain a good efficiency.

Objective: To study the epidemiology, the diagnostic elements and the prognosis after laparotomy surgery, of complicated upper genital infections. Patients and method: This is a retrospective study of six cases of complicated upper genital infections collected over a period of 20 months in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department of the Aristide Hospital Center of LEDANTEC. Results: The average age of the patients was 37.67, in two patients;a hysterosalpingography had been performed less than seven days before the start of the symptoms, a notion of multiple sexual partners was noted in two patients. All patients presented with acute abdominal-pelvic pain associated with vomiting in three patients. An infectious syndrome was found in two patients, adnexal pain caused in four patients and signs of peritoneal irritation (guarding and umbilical tenderness) in three patients. Para-clinically, a biological inflammatory syndrome was found in all patients, including an elevation of C-reactive protein in all patients and hyperleukocytosis in four patients and an elevation of CA 125 in two patients. The cytobacteriological examination of the pus taken intraoperatively was positive in two patients, the isolated germs were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter cloacae. Pelvic ultrasound was performed in all patients and revealed a cystic adnexal mass in five cases, a pyosalpinx and peritoneal effusion in two cases. Abdominal & pelvic computed tomography was performed in four patients and revealed a lateral-uterine adnexal mass in two cases, pyosalpinx in two cases, uretero-hydronephrosis and peritoneal effusion in one case. An exploratory laparotomy was performed in each patient and confirmed the diagnosis of tuboovarian abscess, the presence of pelvic adhesion and purulent effusion in four patients, the presence of false membranes in two patients, pyometra and isolated bilateral pyosaplinx were found in one patient. Fluoride Excess Removal from Brackish Drinking Water in Senegal by Using KSF and K10 Montmorillonite Clays

Fluoride excess in drinking water is noticed in many countries around the world and particularly in Senegal where, in addition to fluoride excess, high levels of salinity are also encountered. In order to reduce fluoride excess in drinking water in the groundnut basin of Senegal, two types of clays namely montmorillonite KSF and montmorillonite K10 as well were used as adsorbent materials. The results show that the pH which was initially alkaline becomes acidic varying from 2.80 to 6.80. The pseudo first-order kinetic model fit well with the adsorption experiments for KSF montmorillonite (r2 = 0.96), while for K10 clay the same model describe the experiments with slight differences (r2 = 0.90). The KSF clay has a better fluoride adsorption capacity compared to that obtained with K10 clay due to the presence of a great level of calcium oxide in the montmorilonite KSF clay.

The Caesarean Section in Dakar: Indications and Analysis Prognosis

The objective of this study was to analyze the indications of cesarean sections performed in a Level II clinic and to evaluate early maternal and neonatal outcome in the context of decentralization of obstetric and emergency newborn care. Material and Method: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study conducted at the maternity CSNC over a period of 12 months from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011. It included all women in childbirth by caesarean section and excluded patients admitted for management of complications of cesarean section performed in another structure. Results: During the study period, 595 caesarean sections were performed on a total of 4410 births, a rate of 13.5%. The average age of patients was 27 years. The mean parity was 2. The patients came from them even 55%. They were admitted with a single uterine scar in 28.40% of cases and bi-scar in 25.4% of cases. A pathology was associated with pregnancy in 31.6% of cases. These pathologies were dominated by vascular and renal syndromes (75.5%), anemia (13.8%) and the obstacles previa (10.1%). Caesarean sections were performed in 517 patients in emergency. The technique of Misgav Ladach was the most common 75.1%. The average hospital stay was 4.2 days with extremes of 0 and 15 days. Postoperative maternal mortality was 0.34%. Operative follow-up was simple in 98.3% of patients. Two patients (0.34%) died after surgery. In 92.4% of the cases, the newborns were alive. The Apgar score in the first minute was favorable (greater than or equal to 7/10) in 503 newborns (95.1%) and unfavorable (less than 7/10) in 47 cases (8.55%). At the fifth minute, he was favorable in 98.5% of the cases. Overall stillbirth was 72.26‰ with a total of 43 stillbirths including 3 macerated stillbirths. Conclusion: Cesarean section is by far the most accomplished action in gynecology and obstetrics. The granular cell tumor of the breast is a rare tumor and a usually benign disease that appears clinically and radiologically like a malign tumor. We report a case of GCT in a woman of 41 years, who present a clinically and radiologically suspect later. The anatomopathological examination showed the benign tumor proliferation and a large tumorectomy was realized. The immunostaining with PS100 and NSE protein confirm the nature of the tumor.

Introduction: Laryngeal cancer is the first cancer of upper aerodigestive tract. Dysphonia, dyspnea and dysphagia are evocative signs. Diagnosis is histological and squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type. The objective of our study was to discuss epidemiological and anatomo-pathological characteristics of laryngeal cancers diagnosed in different pathological anatomy and cytology (ACP) laboratories of Dakar hospitals. Material and method: This was a retrospective study spanning from January 2013 to December 2018 at the pathological anatomy laboratories of Fann, Aristide Le Dantec and Idrissa Pouye hospitals. All patients with laryngeal cancer confirmed at histology were included. Data collection was based on clinical records of the patients and archives of histological reports of the pathological laboratories. Data analysis was performed under the Excel software. Results: We collected 215 cases of laryngeal cancer. The average age was 58.01 years with extremes of 07 and 94 years. The male sex was predominant with 183 patients (85.12%) against 32 women (14.88%). The most noted risk factor was tobacco which affected 14 patients, or 60.87%. Three patients (13.04%) did not present any alcohol-smoking impregnation. Clinically, dysphonia was noted in 22 patients (26.51%). It was associated with dyspnea in 0.48% of cases and dysphagia in 3.61%. Laryngoscopy was performed in 62 patients or 28.83% of cases, nasofibroscopy in 6.45% of cases. Cord arythenoid fixity was noted in two patients (3.23%) and hypo-mobility in 1 patient (1.61%). The most frequent local extension was involvement of the piriform sinus with 11.29% of cases. Palpable lymphadenopathy reported in 17 patients (20.48%). Pathological examination was performed in all patients after post endoscopic biopsy in 92 patients (42.79%), and after obtaining the operative specimen in 123 cases (57.21%).
