Numerical analysis and experimental validation of hydrodynamics of a thin bubbling fluidized bed for various particle-size distributions using a three-dimensional dense discrete phase model

A dense discrete phase model combined with the kinetic theory of granular flows was used to study the bubbling characteristics and segregation of poly-dispersed particle mixtures in a thin fluidized *** simulations showed that in using the hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian method,the common use of one computational cell in the thickness direction of the thin bed does not predict wall friction ***,a three-cell discretization of the thickness direction does predict the wall friction well but six cells were needed to prevent overprediction of the bed *** change in specularity factor(SF)of the model not only affected the predictions of the velocity of particles,but also had a considerable impact on their flow pattern.A decrease in SF,which decreases wall friction,showed an over-prediction in the size of bubbles,particle velocities,and void fraction of the bed,and led to a shift in the circulation center toward the bottom of the *** segregation of the Geldart B particles was studied in the narrow range from 400 to 600μm with a standard deviation less than 10%of the average *** showed that large particles accumulated close to the distributor at the bottom of the bed and the center of the bed,but small particles moved towards the wall and top *** decrease in the mean particle size and spread in shape of the distribution improves mixing by up to 30%at a superficial gas velocity of around 2.5 times the minimum fluidization ***-normal mixtures with a small proportion of large particles had the most uniform distribution with a thin layer of jetsam forming at the bottom of the ***,experimental verification of the segregation and mixing of polydisperse particles with narrow size distribution is suggested.

Case Study: ENSO Events, Rainfall Variability and the Potential of SOI for the Seasonal Precipitation Predictions in Iran

The studies in recent decades show that many natural disasters such as tropical severe storms, hurricanes development, torrential rain, river flooding, and landslides in some regions of the world and severe droughts and wildfires in other areas are due to El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). This research aims to contribute to an improved definition of the relation between ENSO and seasonal (autumn and winter) variability of rainfall over Iran. The results show that during autumn, the positive phase of SOI is associated with decrease in the rainfall amount in most part of the country;negative phase of SOI is associated with a significant increase in the rainfall amount. It is also found that, during the winter time when positive phase of SOI is dominant, winter precipitation increases in most areas of the eastern part of the country while at the same time the decreases in the amount of rainfall in other parts is not significant. Moreover, with negative phase of SOI in winter season the amount of rainfall in most areas except south shores of Caspian Sea in the north decreases, so that the decrease of rainfall amount in the eastern part is statistically significant.

Currently,ionizing radiation(IR)plays a key role in the agricultural and medical industry,while accidental exposure resulting from leakage of radioactive sources or radiological terrorism is a serious *** to IR has various detrimental effects on normal *** an increased risk of carcinogenesis is the best-known long-term consequence of IR,evidence has shown that other diseases,particularly diseases related to inflammation,are common disorders among irradiated *** disorders are among the various types of immune diseases that have been investigated among exposed *** diseases and diabetes are two autoimmune diseases potentially induced by ***,the precise mechanisms of IR-induced thyroid diseases and diabetes remain to be elucidated,and several studies have shown that chronic increased levels of inflammatory cytokines after exposure play a pivotal ***,cytokines,including interleukin-1(IL-1),tumor necrosis factor(TNF-α)and interferon gamma(IFN-α),play a key role in chronic oxidative damage following exposure to ***,these cytokines change the secretion of insulin and thyroid-stimulating hormone(TSH).It is likely that the management of inflammation and oxidative damage is one of the best strategies for the amelioration of these diseases after a radiological or nuclear *** the present study,we reviewed the evidence of radiation-induced diabetes and thyroid diseases,as well as the potential roles of inflammatory *** addition,we proposed that the mitigation of inflammatory and oxidative damage markers after exposure to IR may reduce the incidence of these diseases among individuals exposed to radiation.

Production of Alkaline Protease by Bacillus Licheniformis

In this research the results of studies on optimization of alkaline protease production by Bacillus licheniformis are reported. The parameters, which were taken into consideration, are pH, temperature, time course of enzyme production, stirring rate and kinetics parameters. The effect of various carbon and nitrogen sources in culture medium compound on enzyme production was also considered The result of optimization revealed that maximum protease production was obtained at 37 ℃, pH equivalent tol 0.0 and with 150 rpm will occur after 72 hours. By comparing the effect of 5 carbon sources （maltose, glucose, starch, casein and lactose） in enzyme production, it has been known that using lactose will increase about 1.5 times enzyme production, compared to condition in which maltose is used. The result of studies on the effect of five nitrogen sources （i.e., peptone, tryptone, ammonium sulfate, urea and corn steep liquor） shows that corn steep liqour increases enzyme production more than others, while peptone can also be considered as a good nitrogen source; but, ammonium sulfate and urea reduce enzyme production considerably. It was concluded that protease production occurs in the stationary phase of growth. Studying the kinetics parameters resulted that the best model for the enzyme above is Lineweaver-Burk model according to which Km is 0.64 mmol and Vmax is 88 lamol/min.

Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis with Splenomegaly and Pancytopenia

Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LG) is an angiocentric lymphoproliferative disease. It usually involves lung, skin, and central nervous system, but splenomegaly and pancytopenia are the rare manifestations of the disease. We report a 15-year-old boy presented with fever, dry cough and dyspnea from two months ago, after admission patient had nodular lesions on the left leg and hepatosplenomegaly. Then he manifested neurologic signs such as seizure, aphasia and right-sided hemiplegia. Chest X-ray and CT scan revealed bilateral pulmonary nodules predominantly in lower lobes and peripheral lung fields. Laboratory exams showed pancytopenia. Skin biopsy was done, and histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry evaluation confirmed lymphomatoid granulomatosis. He was treated with steroid and cyclophosphamide but succumbed by neurologic involvement.

研究了现有成簇路由算法,提出了分布式能量有效成簇路由算法,该算法主要包括3部分内容:一是选择候选簇头时通过引入平均能量因子来平衡全网节点的剩余能量情况;二是构造了基于能量和距离的能量消耗率函数以平衡节点的能量效率;三是首次提出了基于同构单跳网络的分布式能量有效非均匀成簇路由算法。理论和仿真结果均说明该算法优于EECS,生命周期比EECS延长达到约30%。
