Distribution and geochemical significance of dibenzofurans,phenyldibenzofurans and benzo[b]naphthofurans in source rock extracts from Niger Delta basin,Nigeria

The distribution and geochemical significance of dibenzofurans,phenyldibenzofurans and benzo[b]naptho-furans in source rocks from Niger Delta basin,Nigeria,were investigated by Rock-Eval pyrolysis and gas chro-matography--mass spectrometry(GC--mS).The data obtained from the source rocks evaluation showed that the rock samples contained type 1/III kerogen capable of generating oil and gas and were within immature to early mature *** relative abundance of the Cor,C1-and C2-dibenzofurans range from 1.75%to 29.82%,27.60%to 40.52%and 29.66%to 6889%,*** diben-zofurans were dominated by *** the C1-dibenzofurans,2-+3-methyldibenzofuran was the most abundant in the rock samples while 1-methy ldibenzofuran appeared to be the *** relative abundance of benzo[b]naphtho[1,2-d]furan(1,2]BNF),benzo[b]naph-tha[2,1-d]furan(2.1]BNF)and benzo[b]naphtha[2,3-d]fu-ran([2.3]BNF)in the rock extracts range from 12.01%to 52.58%,32.61%to 75.219%and 10.27%to 52.43%.The wide range of values recorded for the three isomers of benzo[b lnapthofurans in the samples suggest source rocks formed from mixed organic *** the pheny ldibenzofuran isomers,4-pheny ldibenzofuran was the most abundant while 1-phenyldibenzofuran was the *** ratio-1(PhFR-1)and pheny ldibenzofuran ratio-2(PhFR-2)values range from 0.13 to 1.20 and 0.11 to 2.11,*** resuls showed that the relative abundance of PhFR-1 and PhFR-2 increase gradually with increasing burial depth and maturity(VRo≤0.77%,mPI-1≤*** s 443℃),and have a good correlations with calculated vitrinite ***-I and maximum Temperature(Tmax)-This range of values suggested immature to early mature source *** source rocks were found to have shale and coul lithologics and deposited in a lacustrine/fuvial deltaic settings within immature to early mature stages based on the distribution of dibenzofurans,pheny ldiben-zofurans and benzo[b]naphthofurans in the source rock

Thirty-nine crude oils and twenty-one rock samples from Niger Delta Basin,Nigeria have been characterized based on their isotope compositions by elemental analysis-isotope ratio mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-isotope ratio mass *** bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole rock extracts,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–28.7‰to–26.8‰,–29.2‰to–27.2‰and–28.5‰to–26.7‰,respectively while the bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole oils,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–25.4‰to–27.8‰,–25.9‰to–28.4‰and–23.5‰to–26.9‰,*** average carbon isotopic compositions of individual alkanes(nC12-nC33)in the rock samples range from–34.9‰to–28.2‰whereas the average isotopic values of individual n-alkanes in the oils range from–31.1‰to–23.8‰.Theδ13C isotope ratios of pristane and phytane in the rock samples range from–29.2‰to–28.2‰and–30.2‰to–27.4‰respectively while the pristane and phytane isotopic values range from–32.1‰to–21.9‰and–30.5‰to–26.9‰,*** isotopic values recorded for the samples indicated that the crude oils were formed from the mixed input of terrigenous and marine organic matter and deposited under oxic to sub-oxic condition in lacustrine-fluvial/deltaic *** stable carbon isotopic compositions were found to be effective in assessing the origin and depositional environments of crude oils in the Niger Delta Basin.

Tricyclic and tetracyclic terpanes are important constituents of crude oil and source rock ***,they have not been reported in the Offshore Niger Delta Basin,***,the present study investigated the geochemical significance of tricyclic and tetracyclic terpanes in source rock extracts from the Offshore Niger Delta Bain,Nigeria with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-mS).The total relative abundances of tricyclic terpanes,C_(19)TT-C_(21)TT,and C_(23) TT in the rock samples ranged from 82.50 to 96.37%,50.08 to 74.17%,and 25.83 to 49.92%,*** values showed the source rocks were formed from a mixed origin(terrestrial and marine).Among the tricyclic and tetracyclic terpanes identified in the rock extracts,the conventional(C_(20)TT,C_(23)TT,C_(24)TT,C_(24)TeT)and recent(Y1,X1,Z1)were more prominent than all others,indicating mixed input of terrigenous and marine organic *** C_(24)TT/C_(23)TT,C_(24)TeT/(C_(24)TeT+C_(26)TT),C_(19)TT/C_(23)TT,C_(20)TT/C_(23)TT,C_(25)TT/C_(24)TeT,C_(25)TT/C_(26)TT,C_(19)TT/C_(20)TT,C_(24)TeT/C_(26)TT,Z1/(Z1+C_(24)TT),and Y1/(Y1+C_(24)TT)in the rock samples range from 0.33 to 1.30,0.76 to 0.90,0.18 to 0.73,0.34 to 1.05,0.33 to 1.74,0.30 to 1.39,0.31 to0.89,1.66 to 4.33,0.36 to 0.83,and 0.34 to 0.79,*** values further showed that the rock samples were formed from mixed input of terrigenous and marine organic matter and deposited under oxic to suboxic conditions in lacustrine-fluvial/deltaic ***,the C_(24)TeT/C_(20)-26TT,C_(24)TeT/C_(30)HOP,and C_(23)TT/C_(30)HOP ranged from 0.16 to 0.45,0.02 to 0.42,and 0.01 to 0.48,*** range of values suggests that source rocks were within immature to early mature ***,this study showed that tricyclic and tetracyclic terpanes were effective in determining the origin,depositional environments,and thermal maturity of source rocks in the Niger Delta Basin,Nigeria.

Sustainable vegetable production especially during the dry season requires adequate conservation of soil *** study was conducted to evaluate the sole and interactive effects of mulching(m)and poultry manure(Pm)application on soil temperature(ST),crop evapotranspiration(ETc)and water use efficiency(WUE)of *** experiment was a Randomized Complete Block Design(RCBD)with three *** treatments were m at 0 and 6t ha^(-1)and Pm at 0,10 and 20t ha^(-1).Soil temperature was measured using digital thermometer while ETc was determined by water depletion method using a Time Domain *** at field capacity was applied manually at 2-day *** appli-cation of mulch significantly lowered ST while joint application of 20t ha^(-1)Pm(Pm20)and m signifi-cantly(p≤0.05)reduced ST at 5 cm and 10 cm soil depth compared with the unmulched plots in both *** of 10t ha^(-1)Pm(Pm10)without m recorded the highest ETc(43.7 mm),while joint application of Pm20 and m reduced ETc by about 93%compared with Pm10 *** used water most efficiently when Pm20 was applied under mulched *** was 62.2%increase in WUE under mulched plots compared with the control while the residual effect of Pm10 and m significantly increased WUE by 65.5%.It was evident that m alongside application of Pm is a good strategy for regulating ST,moderating ETc and increasing okra WUE,especially during dry season farming.

The effect of thermo-extrusion processing of white yam (Dioscorea rotundata) and bambara nut (Vigna subterranean) on some selected extrudate parameters of residence time, throughput and moisture content were investigated in this study. Both yam and bambara nut were processed into meals of 750 μm and 500 μm respectively. Extrusion was carried out following a three variable response surface methodology using a Box Behnken design. Blend of yam meal and Bambara nut meal at ratio 80:20 respectively was conditioned into 12.5, 15.0 and 17.5% moisture content (dry basis) and allowed to equilibrate for 4 h. Extrusion was carried out on a single screw extruder at 50, 60 and 70 rpm screw speed and 130oC, 140oC and 150oC barrel temperatures. The study revealed that the extrusion time varied between 13.1 and 29.7 sec, throughput varied from 13.3 to 34.4 kg/h and product moisture ranged from 11.1 to 16.8% dry basis). All investigated extrudate parameters were significantly affected (pmperature and feed moisture content, and their interactions. The results were indicative that the second order polynomial was adequate to model the dependence of the extrudate parameters of residence time, throughput and moisture content on extrusion variables of barrel temperature, feed moisture content and screw speed.

Two novel 4,5-secoeudesmane sesquiterpenoids, oxyphyllones A （1） and B （2） were isolated from the fruits of Alpinia oxyphylla. Their structures were established by spectroscopic methods including 1D and 21） NmR spectra. These two compounds are the first example of naturally occurring sesquiterpenoids with a 4,5-secoeudesmane skeleton in the family of Zingiberaceae and oxyphyllone A （1） is the first 4,5-secoeudesmane type of 13-norsesquiterpenoid. This study was designed to evaluate the hepatoprotective and ameliorative effects of aqueous extract of moringa oleifera (mO) leaves on the histologyof liver and hepatic reticular fibres integrity of adult Wistar rats following lead-induced hepatotoxicity. Twenty four adult Wistar rats, weighing 180 - 220 g, randomly assigned into four groups of six animals each were used for the study. Lead and moringa oleifera were given orally to the rats. 24 hours after the last administration, animals were sacrificed, blood obtained by cardiac puncture and liver excised, fixed in 10% phosphate buffered formalin for histological and histochemical analysis. The activities of aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were used as markers of hepatotoxicity and catalase (CAT) activity were used as marker to evaluate the anti-oxidant status of the tissue. Result showed that lead treatment increased markers of hepatic damage (ALT, AST and ALP) and decreased CAT activities. Histological studies reveal alterations of hepatic structure including hepatocytic vacuolations, sinuosoidal congestion and loss of reticular fibres following lead treatment. Treatment with mO prevented and reversed lead induced hepatic damage. In conclusion, this study shows that moringa oleifera leaf extract has an appreciable ability to prevent hepatotoxicity caused by lead, partly as result of its chemical constituents which has hepatoprotective properties.
