Assessment of large-scale multiple forest disturbance susceptibilities with AutoML framework: an Izmir Regional Forest Directorate case

Disturbances such as forest fires,intense winds,and insect damage exert strong impacts on forest ecosystems by shaping their structure and growth dynamics,with contributions from climate ***,there is a need for reliable and operational methods to monitor and map these disturbances for the development of suitable management *** susceptibility assessment using machine learning methods has increased,most studies have focused on a single ***,there has been limited exploration of the use of“Automated Machine Learning(AutoML)”in the *** this study,susceptibility assessment for multiple forest disturbances(fires,insect damage,and wind damage)was conducted using the PyCaret AutoML framework in the Izmir Regional Forest Directorate(RFD)in *** AutoML framework compared 14 machine learning algorithms and ranked the best models based on AUC(area under the curve)*** extra tree classifier(ET)algorithm was selected for modeling the susceptibility of each disturbance due to its good performance(AUC values>0.98).The study evaluated susceptibilities for both individual and multiple disturbances,creating a total of four susceptibility maps using fifteen driving factors in the *** to the results,82.5%of forested areas in the Izmir RFD are susceptible to multiple disturbances at high and very high ***,a potential forest disturbances map was created,revealing that 15.6%of forested areas in the Izmir RFD may experience no damage from the disturbances considered,while 54.2%could face damage from all three *** SHAP(Shapley Additive exPlanations)methodology was applied to evaluate the importance of features on prediction and the nonlinear relationship between explanatory features and susceptibility to disturbance.

Effect of undulators on the stored electron beam of Indus-2

Indus-2 is an Indian synchrotron light source, operating at 2.5 Ge V and generating synchrotron radiation from its bending magnets. In order to provide more intense synchrotron radiation to the synchrotron users, there is a plan to install five insertion devices in the Indus-2 storage ring. In the first phase of installation of insertion devices, there is a proposal to install two out- vacuum pure permanent magnet linearly polarized undulators in long straight sections of the Indus-2 storage ring. The presence of the insertion devices in the ring has inevitable effects on beam parameters like betatron tune, betatron amplitude function, closed orbit, emittance, energy spread and dynamic aperture etc. In this paper, the effect of two undulators on the above mentioned parameters of the Indus-2stored electron beam at 2.5 Ge V is presented. Moreover a correction scheme for the restoration of the betatron tune and amplitude function is also presented.

Assessment and Analysis of Rockfall-Caused Tree Injuries in a Turkish Fir Stand:A Case Study from Kastamonu-Turkey

Rockfalls can cause serious damage to people,property,facilities and transportation ***,rockfalls are major hazards in mountain areas with negative impacts on individual trees and forested *** conducted a study of rockfall events on 117 mapped(91% of total trees in the stand with>1.3 m in height and>5 cm diameter at breast height)Turkish fir trees(Abies bornmuelleriana Mattf.)in a stand within the Kayaarkasi-Topular Village,Inebolu district, Kastamonu province of *** study site of 0.35 Ha is located on the transition zone of frequently passing rockfall fragments(～40 cm in diameter) generally causing healable *** of trees and injuries were recorded and analysed as to injury number,height and *** correlation analysis were used to investigate the relationships between:a)diameter at breast height and number of injuries per tree,b)diameter at breast height and total injury size,c)the number of injuries and total injury size and d)the number of injuries per tree and distance from the source of the rockfall *** indicate that the average height of injury,average number of injuries and average injury area to be 81.3 cm(STDEV:49.8),7.46(STDEV:4.4)and 628.6 cm2 (STDEV:678.2),*** total 84% of all injuries were recorded within 160°sector at the upslope side of trees and callus tissue that had closed wounds was observed in 79.1% of all injuries. Furthermore 14.5% of injured trees had callus tissue in the process of closing wounds while 6.4% of injuries had not formed any callus *** most common injury types were bark and wood injuries. Bivariate correlation analysis indicated strong relationships between diameter at breast height and the number of injuries(rs=0.524),injury number and total injury area(rs=0.653)and distance from rockfall area and injury numbers relations(rs=-0.518).A weaker relationship was found between diameter at breast height and total injury area(rs=0.363).These results

Cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects of naringenin-oxime relative to naringenin on normal and cancer cell lines

Objective: To assess and compare the cytotoxic, genotoxic, apoptotic and reactive oxygen species(ROS) generating effects of naringenin(NG) and its new derived compound naringenin-oxime(NG-Ox) on MCF-7, HT-29, PC-12 cancer and L-929 normal cell ***: The cells were incubated with different doses of NG-Ox and NG(50–1 000 mmol/L) for 24 h. The cell viability was assessed based on ATP cell viability *** accumulation of ROS was determined using the fluorescent probes 2070-dichlorodihydrofluorescin diacetate. Genotoxic effects were evaluated by alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay(comet assay) and, the apoptotic effect was evaluated by acridine orange staining at below the IC50 ***: Both NG-Ox and NG exhibited cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects and resulted in increased ROS values in a dose-dependent manner. The effects were more pronounced on cancer cell lines. The cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects of NG-Ox were higher than that of NG in all cell lines. Significant correlations were observed between cell viability, DNA damage, apoptosis and ROS, in all cell lines exposed to either NG-Ox or ***: This study showed that both NG-Ox and NG possess cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic activities through the production of ROS on cells, NG-Ox being the more effective one. Therefore, derived compound of NG might be used as antiproliferative agents for the treatment of cancer.

Relationship between diabetic polyneuropathy, serum visfatin, and oxidative stress biomarkers

Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. Conventionally many drugs are used for the treatment of diabetes such as biguanides, sulfonylureas, meglitinides, etc. But the desired effective treatment is still not to be achieved. So researches are going on for the development of effective alternative therapy against diabetes. Olive leaves are traditionally used in the treatment of the disease. However, studies on its mechanism of action are not yet enough. The aim of this study was to investigate whether olive leaf extract (OLE) improves insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), tyrosine kinase (TK), GLUT-2, and GLUT-4. Oleuropein levels were analyzed from OLE obtained by using four different solvents, and the highest content of methanol extract was selected for the study. Different concentrations of OLE (2.5 to 320 μg/mL) were incubated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cells for 24 hours. After incubation, cell viability was assessed based on luminometric ATP cell viability assay kit. Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generating level was detected using 2,7dichlorodihydrofluorescein-diacetate (H2DCF-DA) fluorescent probes. Apoptosis was evaluated by acridine orange/ethidium bromide double staining method. Genotoxicity was evaluated by alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis assay (Comet Assay). Protein expression levels of IRS-1, TK, GLUT-2, and GLUT-4 were analyzed by western blotting technique from the obtained cell lysates. Although an optimum doses of OLE (10 μg/mL) maximally increased cell proliferation, decreased ROS generation improved IRS-1, TK, GLUT-2, and GLUT-4 protein expression levels (about fivefold), higher doses (10 to 320 μg/mL) markedly decreased the cell viability, increased DNA damage, apoptosis and ROS generation in a concentration-dependent manner. OLE can be used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. However, in order to find the most effective and non-toxic concentration, dose optimization is required.
