Repellent and Fumigant Effects of Essential Oil from Clove Buds Syzygium aromaticum L. against Tribofium castaneum （Herbest）（Coleoptera： Tenebrionidae）

Essential oil from clove buds Syzygium aromaticum L. merr. ＆ Perry （myrtaceae） was extracted using petroleum ether in Soxhlet apparatus. The resultant oil contained eugenol （48.92%）, caryophyllene （18.55%）, α-caryophyllene （3.25%）, eugenol acetate （23%）, cis-13-docosenamide （3.2 1%）, presenting more than 96% of the oil. This oil was examined as a fumigant and repellent agent against adults of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum. Data showed that various concentrations of the oil have revealed dramatic repellent activity against the tested insect, where it gave 100% repellency by 1.0, 0.8, and 0.2% clove oil at 4, 8, 10 min, respectively. The RTs0 and RT95 were 1.1 and 8.0 min at 0.2% and 0.4, 2.6 min at 0.8%, respectively. In addition, fumigation assay has also exhibited strong fumigant activity toward the adults of T. castaneum. At 100 μL oil/L air, mortality was 75, 80 and 100% after 6, 7, and 8 days exposure period with LCs0 and LC95 17 and 70 μL/L air, respectively. The utilization of clove oil for its potential effects against stored product insect is discussed.

Clinical infection with varicella in both its’ forms, primary and reactivation, can be associated with a variety of complications. Cardiac complications, though very rare, have been associated with the primary form of varicella zoster and as such should be recognized in order to initiate early treatment and prevent morbidity and mortality. However, cardiac complications have not been described in association with the reactivation form of varicella. We report a case of an adult immunocompetent male who presented with herpes zoster complicated by pericarditis with pericardial effusion and a positive varicella zoster virus (VZV) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in pericardial fluid.

The objective of the present work is to test the effectiveness of probiotic potency of regular yoghurt, synbiotic yoghurt and traditional fermented Egyptian sobya containing endogenous probiotic strains compared to unfermented rice milk porridge. methods: The study consisted of 28 male subjects with mean age of 13.9 ± 0.1 years. The subjects were divided into four groups, three groups consumed one of three fermented supplements, while the fourth group served as a control group. Stool and urinary samples were carried out prefeeding and after 3-week nutritional intervention for assessing five indicators of revelance to colonic metabolic activities. The fermented supplements used for evaluation were regular yoghurt, synbiotic yoghurt and traditional fermented sobya;while the fourth group was given unfermented rice milk and served as control. Intestinal permeability was assessed by the urinary lactulose mannitol ratio. Results: The mean fecal total lactobacilli counts increased (P mption of the three fermented supplements (P mpared to the pre-intervention levels. Similar trends were observed for genus bifidobacterium. On the contrary, enterobacteraceae counts were reduced in all the three groups consuming fermented supplements. The three-week dietary interventions with regular yogurt or sobya significantly reduced the lactulose/manitol (L/m) ratios (Pmean urinary anti-oxidative activities increased only among subjects consumingsynbiotic yogurt for three weeks, compared to pre-intervention period (Pmilar trendwas found after consumption of fermented sobya, but the increase didn’t attain significant level (P>0.05). mean fecal short chain fatty acids concentrations (acetic;propionic and butyric) tended to increase following the intervention with synbiotic yogurt or sobya compared to respective pre-intervention values;but the difference didn’t attain significance (0.1>P> 0.05). The adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and CO2 gas molecules on different chiralities of single boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) is investigated, applying the density functional theory and using basis set 6 - 31 g (d,p). The energetic, electronic properties and surface reactivity have been discussed. We found that the best BNNT for adsorbing the CO, CO2, NO and NO2 gas molecules is (5,0) BNNT with adsorption energy of -0.27, -0.37 eV, -0.23 and -0.92 eV, respectively. Also, the electronic character of (5,0), (9,0), (5,5) and (6,6) BNNTs is found to be not affected by the adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and NO2 gas molecules. It is found that the dipole moments of zig-zag (5,0) and (9,0) BNNTs are always higher than the arm-chair (5,5) and (6,6) BNNTs. Also, it is noticed that the highest dipole moment is for (9,0) BNNT.

The adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and CO2 gas molecules on different diameters and chiralities of carbon nanotube-boron nitride nanotube (CNT-BNNT) heterojunctions is investigated, applying the density functional theory and using basis set 6 - 31 g (d,p). The energetic, electronic properties and surface reactivity have been discussed. We found that the best CNT-BNNT heterojunctions for adsorbing the CO, NO, CO2 and NO2 gas molecules is (5,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunction through forming C-N bonds with adsorption energy of -0.26, -0.41 eV, -0.33 and -0.63 eV, respectively. Also, the adsorption of CO, NO, CO2 and NO2 gas molecules on (5,5) and (6,6) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions does not affect the electronic character of the CNT-BNNT heterojunctions, however the adsorption of NO and NO2 gas molecules on (5,0) and (9,0)CNT-BNNT heterojunctions in case of forming C-B bonds increases the band gaps to 1.21 eV and 1.52 eV, respectively. In addition, it is reported that the values of dipole moment for armchair (5,5) and (6,6) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions are not affected by gas adsorption. Also, for the zig-zag (5,0) and (9,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions, the values of dipole moment increase through forming C-N bonds and decrease through forming C-B bonds. In addition, it is reported that the highest dipole moment is obtained for (9,0) CNT-BNNT heterojunctions. Therefore, the zig-zag CNT-BNNT heterojunctions can be selected as good candidate for gas sensors.

Using density functional theory, the adsorption of CO, CO2, NO and CO2 gas molecules on different chiralities and diameters of single carbon nanotubes is investigated in terms of energetic, electronic properties and surface reactivity. We found that the adsorption of CO and CO2 gas molecules is dependent on the chiralities and diameters of CNTs and it is vice versa for NO and NO2 gas molecules. Also, the electronic character of CNTs is not affected by the adsorption of CO and CO2 gas molecules while it is strongly affected by NO and NO2 gas molecules. In addition, it is found that the dipole moments of zig-zag CNTs are always higher than the arm-chair CNTs. Therefore, we conclude that the zig-zag carbon nanotubes are more preferred as gas sensors than the arm-chair carbon nanotubes, especially for detecting NO and NO2 gas molecules.

Purpose: Aim of this study is to assess the anti-proliferative effect of the thiazole analogue (5-acetyl-4-methyl-2-(3-pyridyl) thiazole) with different human carcinoma cell lines and to postulate its possible mechanism of action using molecular modeling. methods: Three different human carcinoma cell lines were used namely hepatocyte carcinoma (HEPG2), breast adenocarcinoma (mCF7) and colon cancer (HCT116). molecular docking simulations for tested thiazole analogue and its virtual analogues against the cytochrome P-450 2A6 enzyme and mutated SOD were performed. Results: Cell lines cytotoxicity revealed that the tested thiazole analogue exerts a significant anti-proliferative activity in all the used human carcinoma cell lines with a pronounced anti-proliferative effect in liver carcinoma cell line HEPG2 (IC50 = 23.8 μg/ml) whereas the anti-proliferative effect in colon carcinoma and breast cancer cell lines was poor with IC50 = 50 μg/ml and IC50 > 50 μg/ml respectively. The postulated mechanism of action revealed the high affinity to inhibit SOD and CYP2A6 enzymes in the liver. Conclusion: The thiazole analogue (5-acetyl-4-methyl-2-(3-pyridyl)thiazole) is a potential liver specific anticancer agent capable of interfering with both apoptotic signaling pathway and the free radical processing in liver which leads to more studies on liver cancer from different perspective rather than the apoptotic signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND The current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has affected routine endoscopy service across the gastroenterology *** led to the suspension of service provision for elective *** To assess the potential barriers for resuming the endoscopy service in *** A national online survey,four domains,was disseminated over a period of 4 wk in August *** primary outcome of the survey was to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the endoscopy service and barriers to the full resumption of a disabled center(s).RESULTS A hundred and thirteen Egyptian endoscopy centers participated in the *** waiting list was increased by≥50% in 44.9% of areas with clusters of COVID-19 cases(n=49)and in 35.5% of areas with sporadic cases(n=62).Thirty nine(34.8%)centers suffered from staff shortage,which was considered a barrier against service resumption by 86.4% of centers in per-protocol *** multivariate analysis,the burden of cases in the unit locality,staff shortage/recovery and the availability of separate designated rooms for COVID-19 cases could markedly affect the resumption of endoscopy practice(P=0.029,mic has led to restrictions in endoscopic *** staff shortage/recovery and the availability of COVID-19 designed rooms are the most important barriers against *** working hours and dividing endoscopy staff into teams may help to overcome the current situation.
