The current study used RP-HPLC to compare phytochemicals and estimate the bioactive constituents found in stevia rebaudiana Bert.(sRB)leaves collected from two different geographical *** leaves were collected from Bangalore,Karnataka,India,and Reduit,*** were prepared using ethanol and aqueous sol*** analysis was used to evaluate moisture content,ash values,crude fibers,and extractive *** that,preliminary phytochemical screening was done on both ethanol leaves extracts,and subsequently total flavonoid content was *** addition,TLC chromatograms and RP-HPLC studies were performed on both plant extracts to determine the presence of flavonoid components in both leaves extracts,followed by in vitro anti-diabetic activity was performed with alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase enzymes against Acarbose as *** revealed that both the extracts from two different geographical sources varied significantly with the yield,content of chemicals,and presence of quercetin(flavonoid)content when estimated through the RP-HPLC standardized ***,flavonoids,proteins,steroids,saponins,terpenoids,and phenols were found in various concentrations during phytochemical *** both zones,the ethanol leaves extract of sRB taken from Mauritius had a greater content of phytochemicals and a higher yield than other extracts due to the soil *** Mauritius sample had greater total flavonoid levels as well as more quercetin(0.92±0.011)than the other *** that,ethanol extract inhibited enzymes(alpha amylase,alpha glucosidases)more than aqueous extract,and this inhibition was dose *** them,the Mauritius ethanol sample showed higher anti-diabetic efficacy than the Indian sample,but this difference was not ***,sRB ethanol leaves extracts outperformed other leaves extracts in terms of yield,phytoconstituents,and total flavo***,both sRB samples had high querce

Background:Erythrina suberosa(***)*** known as corky coral tree is used as a folklore medicine to treat ulcers and *** study explored the phytochemical profiles of methanol and dichloromethane(DCM)extracts from the aerial,root,and flower parts of ***:Total bioactive contents,high-performance liquid chromatography array(HPLC-PDA)polyphenolic quantification,and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Ms)analysis were used to evaluate the phytochemical *** potential was evaluated by determining their antioxidant(DPPH,ABTs,FRAP,CUPRAC,Phosphomolybdenum,and metal chelating)and enzyme inhibitory(cholinesterase,amylase,glucosidase,and tyrosinase)***:The phenolic(46.26 mg GAE/g extract)and flavonoid(32.46 mg QE/g extract)contents were found to be highest in the methanolic extract of roots(EsR-M).HPLC-PDA analysis determined the presence of numerous bioactive compounds,including catechin,syringic acid,p-hydroxy benzoic acid,gallic acid,vanillic acid,epicatechin,rutin,chlorogenic acid,carvacrol,sinapinic acid,and naringenin in considerable amounts.A total of 143 phytochemicals,belonging to phenolic,flavonoid,coumarin,terpenoid,chalcone,saponin,and glycoside classes,were tentatively identified by UHPLC-Ms *** methanolic extract(EsA-M)exhibited highest radical scavenging(DPPH 86.81 mgTE/g extract,ABTs 245.17 mgTE/g extract)as well as reducing potential(FRAP 177.12 mgTE/g extract,CUPRAC 177.12 mgTE/g extract).Likewise,it was also noted to be most active for BChE(5.70 mg GALAE/g extract)and tyrosinase inhibition(148.35 mg KAE/g extract).While,roots-DCM extract(EsR-D)presented considerable inhibition for AChE(4.69 mg GALAE/g extract)and amylase(0.81 mmol ACAE/g extract)***,davallioside A,and isovitexin were docked to tyrosinase to depict possible ***:This study has established baseline data on the biological and phytochemical profile of ***

The Effect of the Challawa Industrial Estate on the Physicochemical Properties and Heavy Metal Levels of Portable Water supply in Kano Metropolis, Nigeria

It has been observed that the portable water quality obtained from various locations in Kano Metropolis has shown greater variations in the recent past. Attempts have been made to ascertain the reasons for the variations even though the supplies were from only two treatments plants that obtain their raw water from the same source. A total of 92 water samples comprising of raw (from plants) and treated (from the plants and taps) were collected during rainy and dry seasons between April 2010 and May, 2012 and analyzed using standard analytical techniques. The results of analysis gave the physiochemical properties with range as follows: pH (0.06 ± 6.7 - 6.04 ± 0.02) conductivity (7.23 ±0.04 - 13.33 ± 0.22 s/Cm), turbidity (5.00 ± 0.01 - 449.22 ±1.32 NTU), suspended solids (107.33±3.45 - 712.11 ±5.33 mg/dm3), total dissolved solids (18.50 ± 0.85 -186 .78 ± 2.48 mg/dm3 ), alkalinity (12.53± 0.32 - 80.75 ± 1.23 mg/dm3) and hardness (29.50 ± 1.22 - 58.67 ± 2.34 mg/dm3). The pH values were generally acidic while the turbidity and total solid especially in some locations were higher than the permissible levels set by the World Health Organization for portable water. The concentration of heavy metals (mg/dm3) were found in the following ranges Fe (0.10 ± 0.04 - 0.30 ± 0.02), Cu (0.01 ± 0.001 - 0.03 ± 0.002), Zn (0.13 ± 0.06 - 0.39 ±0.02), Pb (0.03 ± 0.01 - 0.17 ± 0.02), Mn (0.03 ± 0.004 - 0.13 ± 0.003), Cr (0.10 ± 0.04 - 0.31 ± 0.03). The highest values of Fe, Cu and Mn were recorded along the older distribution channel of Challawa. The levels of Pb and Cr were generally high in both routes which are also observed in the raw water used at the two treatments plants. The results obtained from heavy metal concentrations fell within the maximum allowable limit set by the World Health Organization for portable water except in the cases of Pb and Cr. In this research we try to investigate the optimum etching time for the tracks originate in (CR-39) solid state nuclear track detector after irradiated with alpha source (sup>241sup>Am) using three different etching techniques: the traditional method (water bath), microwaves and ultrasound devices. The track etching parameters: bulk etch rate (Vsub>Bsub>), track etch rate (Vsub>Tsub>), track etch rate ratio evaluates (V), critical angle (θsub>Csub>), and etching efficiency (η) were calculated in this research. It’s seen that the optimum etching time was ranging with (60 - 150 min), (20 - 30 min) and (60 - 120 min) when etching with water bath, microwave and ultrasound respectively. Also we observed that the critical angle was (24.29) when etching CR-39 detector with microwave. This value is lower than the critical angles values for the detector etched with water bath or ultrasound;thus it can be the optimum magnitude because its decrease leads to increasing the number of the tracks appeared in the detector and the etching efficiency.

Protective effect of juice extract of mesocarp rind of Citrullus lanatus in carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress in rats

Objective:To investigate the protective roles of juice extract of mesocarp rind of C. lanatus in carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress in rats. Methods: Thirty albino rats were divided into six groups of 5 animals each, namely Groups A–F. The oxidant (CCl4) was used to induce oxidative stress in rats. It was administered as a single subcutaneous injection (2.0 mL/kg body weight) diluted 1:1 in paraffin oil on the 21st day. Animals in Group A (control) received 1 mL of distilled water;Group B received 1 mL of distilled water + CCl4;Group C received 100 mg/kg body weight ascorbic acid + CCl4;while Groups D, E and F were administered with 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight ofC. lanatus extract + CCl4 respectively. The treatments were given once a day and lasted for 21 days. The levels of antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase (sOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione-s-transferase (GsT), reduced glutathione (GsH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the liver and serum were evaluated. Results:The assessment of antioxidant parameters revealed a significant (Ps, and this was considerably reversed to almost normal level in rats co-administered with juice extract of mesocarp rind ofC. lanatus at the dose level of 200 mg/kg body weight/day for 21 consecutive days. Conclusions:It can be concluded from this present study that the mesocarp rind ofC. lanatus is rich in antioxidants and thus suggesting the possibility of utilizing it as nutraceutical or functional foods to prevent or manage some critical complications in living cells.

Objective:To investigate the effect of leaf aqueous extract from Gongronema latifolium(***)on CCl_(4)induced-oxidative stress in Wistar *** effect was assessed by measuring liver marker enzymes activity,analyzing the antioxidant parameters,lipid profile estimation and lipid peroxidation by-product following CCl_(4)induced-oxidative ***:Milled *** leaves were subjected to aqueous extraction and the filtrate was evaporated between 40-60°C under reduced pressure and a calculated volume of the leaf extract was administered at a dose of 500 mg/kg body ***-five rats were grouped into seven groups of 5 animals each namely;control and experimental *** experimental groups were treated with 2.0 mL/kg body weight CCl_(4),25 mg/kg body weight/day silymarin(a standard hepatoprotective antioxidant),500 mg/kg body weight aqueous extract of *** leaves were administered to the CCl_(4)treated rats for 21 ***:Administration of the extract and silymarin increase significantly(Pspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase)activities in serum,liver and kidney in the treated groups when compared with untreated *** antioxidant parameters(catalase,peroxidase and glutathione s-transferase)were significantly elevated(Ps treated with the extract and silymarin in comparison with untreated ***_(4)induced oxidative stress mediated variations in total cholesterol,triacylglycerides,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were restored significantly(Psult obtained from this study indicated the antioxidant and antidyslipidemic potentials of the aqueous extract of *** leaves.
