Stress-dependent shear wave splitting and permeability in fractured porous rock

It is well known that shear wave propagates slower across than parallel to a fracture, and as a result, a travelling shear wave splits into two directions when it encounters a fracture. Shear wave splitting and permeability of porous rock core samples having single fracture were experimentally investigated using a high-pressure triaxial cell, which can measure seismic shear wave velocities in two directions mutually perpendicular to the sample axis in addition to the longitudinal compressive wave velocity. A single fracture was created in the samples using a modified Brazilian split test device, where the cylindrical sample edges were loaded on two diametrically opposite lines by sharp guillotines along the sample length. Based on tilt tests and fracture surface profilometry, the method of artificially induced tensile fracture in the sample was found to create repeatable fracture surfaces and morphologies. Seismic velocities of the fractured samples were determined under different levels of stress confinement and fracture shear displacement or mismatch. The effective confining stress was varied from 0.5 MPa to55 MPa, while the fractures were mismatched by 0 mm, 0.45 mm and 1 mm. The degree of matching of the fracture surfaces in the core samples was evaluated using the joint matching coefficient(JMC). Shear wave splitting, as measured by the difference in the magnitudes of shear wave velocities parallel(V_(S1))and perpendicular(V_(S2)) to the fracture, is found to be insensitive to the degree of mismatching of the fracture joint surfaces at 2 MPa, and decreased and approached zero as the effective stress was *** models for the stress-and JMC-dependent shear wave splitting and fractured rock permeability were developed based on the experimental observations. Effects of CO<sub>2</sub>Injection on the Seismic Velocity of Sandstone Saturated with Saline Water

Geological sequestration (GS) of carbon dioxide (CO2) is considered as one of the most promising technologies to reduce the amount of anthropogenic CO2 emission in the atmosphere. To ensure success of CO2 GS, monitoring is essential on ascertaining movement, volumes and locations of injected CO2 in the sequestration reservoir. One technique is to use time-lapsed seismic survey mapping to provide spatial distribution of seismic wave velocity as an indicator of CO2 migration and volumes in a storage reservoir with time. To examine the use of time-lapsed seismic survey mapping as a monitoring tool for CO2 sequestration, this paper presents mathematical and experimental studies of the effects of supercritical CO2 injection on the seismic velocity of sandstone initially saturated with saline water. The mathematical model is based on poroelasticity theory, particularly the application of the Biot-Gassmann substitution theory in the modeling of the acoustic velocity of porous rocks containing two-phase immiscible pore fluids. The experimental study uses a high pressure and high temperature triaxial cell to clarify the seismic response of a sample of Berea sandstone to supercritical CO2 injection under deep saline aquifer conditions. Measured ultrasonic wave velocity changes during CO2 injection in the sandstone sample show the effects of pore fluid distribution in the seismic velocity of porous rocks. CO2 injection was shown to decrease the P-wave velocity with increasing CO2 saturation whereas the S-wave velocity was almost constant. The results confirm that the Biot-Gassmann theory can be used to model the changes in the acoustic P-wave velocity of sandstone containing different mixtures of supercritical CO2 and saline water provided the distribution of the two fluids in the sandstone pore space is accounted for in the calculation of the pore fluid bulk modulus. Spinel ferrite Co1-2 xNixMnxFe2-yCeyO4(0.0≤x=y≤0.3) nanoparticles(NPs) were prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion *** synthesized NPs were examined using several techniques such as X-ray diffraction(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) coupled with EDX and elemental mapping,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),and a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM).The analysis of the crystal structure and the phase identification of samples indicates the formation of spinel cubic phase with the occurrence of CeO2 as secondary phase when the content of Ce substitution element *** addition,all produced samples exhibit cubic symmetry with space group *** confirms the presence of two phases,i.e.,the cubic spinel ferrite and the cubic cerium oxide(CeO2).The characteristics of hysteresis loops reveal the soft ferrimagnetic nature of the different synthesized *** saturation(Ms) and remanent(Mr) magnetizations fall on increasing the content of substituting *** with pure CoFe2O4 NPs,the value of coercive field(Hc) slightly increases for x=y=0.1 and x=y=0,2 ***,Hc reduces with further increasing the x and y *** squareness ratio is found to be in the 0.528-0.400 interval,indicating the single domain NPs with uniaxial anisotropy for the different produced *** magneto crystalline anisotropy constant(Keff),anisotropy field(Ha),magneton number(nB) and the demagnetizing field(N) were also determined and discussed.

Substructure design optimization and nonlinear responses control analysis of the mega-sub controlled structural system (MSCSS) under earthquake action

The newly proposed mega sub-controlled structure system(MSCSS)and related studies have drawn the attention of civil engineers for practice in improving the performance and enhancing the structural effectiveness of mega frame ***,there is still a need for improvement to its basic structural *** this project,an advanced,reasonable arrangement of mega sub-controlled structure models,composed of three mega stories with different numbers and arrangements of substructures,are designed to investigate the control performance of the models and obtain the optimal model configuration(model with minimum acceleration and displacement responses)under strong earthquake *** addition,the dynamic parameters that affect the performance effectiveness of the optimal model of MSCSS are studied and *** area of the relative stiffness ratio RD,with different mass ratio MR,within which the acceleration and displacement of the optimal model of MSCSS reaches its optimum(minimum)value is considered as an optimum *** serves as a useful tool in practical engineering *** study demonstrates that the proposed MSCSS configuration can efficiently control the displacement and acceleration of high rise *** addition,some analytical guidelines are provided for selecting the control parameters of the structure.

Dielectric and microstructural properties of YAG:Dy^(3+) ceramics

Yttrium aluminium garnet(Y3Al5O12:YAG) singly doped with Dy3+ at different concentrations was prepared by solid state reactions using repeated heating cycles over the temperature range of 1300-1600 ℃. X-ray powder diffraction analysis confirms the presence of a well-crystallized YAG perovskite phase with cubic structure(by Rietveld refinement). The rare earth dopant is successfully integrated into the YAG host lattice without any major changes in the original structure. The temperature dependence,up to 250 ℃, of the conductivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss, and loss tangent, at various frequencies of up to 5.0 MHz for undoped and doped crystals is compared to understand the electrical and structural characteristics. The experimental results reveal that Dy3+ dopants in YAG crystal significantly influence the conductivity, dielectric constant, and lossy mechanisms, which is probably due to the 3 d-AI ions and 4 f-Dy ions incorporated at different positions of both tetrahedral and octahedral symmetries in YAG:xDy3+ ceramics.

A New Look for Starlike Logharmonic Mappings

These mappings admit a global representation of the form where In this paper,we shall consider the logharmonic mappings , where is starlike. Distortion theorem and radius of starlikess are obtained. Moreover, we use star functions to determine the integral means for these mappings. An upper bound for the arclength is included.

Folic Acid-Functionalized Nanocrystalline Cellulose as a Renewable and Biocompatible Nanomaterial for Cancer-Targeting Nanoparticles

The study focuses on the development of biocompatible and stable FA-functionalized nanocrystalline cellulose(NCC)as a potential drug delivery system for targeting folate receptor-positive cancer *** FA-functionalized NCCs were synthesized through a series of chemical reactions,resulting in nanoparticles with favorable properties for biomedical *** microstructural analysis revealed that the functionalized NCCs maintained their rod-shaped morphology and displayed hydrodynamic diameters suitable for evading the mononuclear phagocytic system while being large enough to target tumor ***,these nanoparticles possessed a negative surface charge,enhancing their stability and repelling potential *** binding specificity of FA-functionalized NCCs to folate receptor-positive cancer cells was demonstrated through various *** free folic acid inhibition assay showed approximately 30%decrease in the binding of functionalized NCCs in the presence of just 5 mM free FA,confirming their selectivity for folate receptor-positive *** microscopy further validated this specificity,as only cancer cells displayed significant binding of functionalized ***,biocompatibility tests revealed that both NCCs and FA-functionalized NCCs had minimal effects on red blood cells,and they did not induce erythrocyte ***,cell viability assays demonstrated functionalized NCCs have selective cytotoxicity against colorectal cancer cells HT-29 and SW-620(68%–88%cell viability)while sparing noncancerous colon cells CCD-18Co(81%–97%cell viability).In summary,FA-functionalized NCCs exhibit promising characteristics for targeted drug delivery in cancer *** biocompatibility,stability,and selective cytotoxicity make them an attractive option for delivering therapeutic agents to folate receptor-positive cancer cells,potentially improving the effectiveness of cancer treatments while minimizing harm to healthy tissues.

The occurrence of Helicobacter pylori in hydatid liver disease

Objective:To detect the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori(***) in hydatid liver disease. Methods:A lolal of 58 patients with hydatid liver disease attending AL-Sadder Teaching Hospital in Al-Najaf and Al-Basrah governorate from February to August,2008 were included in the study and served as group *** hundred and twenty 1st degree relative patients(group B) and 20 normal persons including 10 male and 10 female(group C) as control were detected for the presence of *** infection in general *** X-ray was done for the above groups to exclude lung hydrated *** patients were screened by ultrasound to obtain intra abdominal hydrated cyst and enzymc-linkcd immuno sorbcnt assay(ELISA) test was utilized to detect the *** ***:Fifty eight patients from group A with hydatid liver disease,30 male(51.7%) and 28 female(48.3%) were screened for the presence of *** infection by using ELISA *** found that 28 patients from group A had positive ELISA test including 19 male(32.8%) and 9 female(15.5%)(P<0.0l).However,there were no positive results of *** infection in group B and C by chest X-ray,ultrasound and ELISA ***:It can be concluded that there is a strong relationship between hydatid liver disease and presence of ***.
