Introduction: Thoracic and lumbar spine fracture, type C of mAGERL is one of the most biomechanically and neurologically unstable lesions, induced by significant damage to the bone, disk and ligament complex. materials and methods: We report two cases of Thoracic and lumbar fracture, type C of mAGERL hospitalized in the Neurosurgery department of the Grand Yoff General Hospital in Dakar during a period from June 2014 to June 2017. Observations: 1st case: 44-year-old patient, referred from abroad because of multi systemic trauma related on road traffic accident. On physical examination sustained a thoracic spine trauma classified ASIA D. Body CT scan showed T4 - T5 fracture-dislocation Type C of mAGERL, multiple ribs fracture with a right slight haemothorax, a sternal, a left humerus and scapulas fracture. Thoracic Posterior approach was done using laminar hooks. Clinical and anatomical results are good. 2nd case: 20-year-old patient, referred for thoraco-lumbar trauma because of occupational accident. The initial clinical examination classified it ASIA B. CT scan investigation, demonstrated a L1-L2 fracture type C of mARGEL. Thoraco lumbar spine posterior approach was done using pedicular screw fixation. Two years after trauma the patient recovered completely from his paraplegia. Conclusion: Thoracic and lumbar spine fractures, type C of mAGERL are compelling and instable fracture. Performing posterior instrumentation can achieve a good stabilization and reduction of the lesion.

In a context of a virus that is transmissive by sputtering,wearing masks appear necessary to protect the wearer and to limit the propagation of the ***,we are facing the 2019-2020 coronavirus *** disease 2019(COVID-19)is an infectious disease with first symptoms similar to the *** symptom of COVID-19 was reported first in China and very quickly spreads to the rest of the *** COVID-19 contagiousness is known to be high by comparison with the *** this paper,we propose a design of a mobile application for permitting everyone having a smartphone and being able to take a picture to verify that his/her protection mask is correctly positioned on his/her *** application can be particularly useful for people using face protection mask for the first time and notably for children and old *** designed method exploits Haar-like feature descriptors to detect key features of the face and a decision-making algorithm is *** results show the potential of this method in the validation of the correct mask *** the best of our knowledge,our work is the only one that currently proposes a mobile application design“CheckYourmask”for validating the correct wearing of protection mask.

Hypertensive Retinopathy in Guinean Hypertensive Women: Epidemiological, Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction: Hypertensive retinopathy is the set of retinal and papillary manifestations secondary to acute or chronic acute or chronic high blood pressure. Its frequency increases with age in women, its treatment requires the balance of blood pressure figures. Purpose: To study in women the epidemiological, clinical and therapeutic aspects of Hypertensive retinopathy at the application center of the Diploma of Specialized Studies in Ophthalmology (CADES/O). Patients and methods: Prospective study conducted on 92 women who met the inclusion criteria over a period of six (6) months, from October 1, 2021 to march 31, 2022 in whom the diagnosis of Hypertensive Retinopathy was retained according to the Kirkendall classification. Results: We collected 92 patients with an average age of 57.88 years. The hypertensive Retinopathy was present at 61.75%. The age group of 60 - 69 years was the most represented at 40.22%. The socio-professional stratum most affected was housewives. The duration of the evolution of high blood pressure was from 2 - 5 years representing 57.61% of our study cases;the most common grade of high blood pressure was Grade II at 60.87%. Treatment of hypertension was irregularly followed in 73.91%. Stage II according to Kirkendall’s classification was 58.70% common;the recurrent sign was retinal hemorrhage at 30.43%. Blood pressure balance was the treatment recommended to our patients at 80.48%. Conclusion: Hypertensive retinopathy is common in women and its management remains the balance of blood pressure figures with periodic and multidisciplinary monitoring.

Background: Plasmodium falciparum has developed elaborate strategies to survive in the hostile intracellular environment of the infected host cell, including resistance to oxidative stress. Cysteine is a metabolic product of homocysteine and a precursor of the antioxidant glutathione used by Plasmodium falciparum to escape harmful oxidation. Objectives: In the present study we aimed to assess whether Plasmodium falciparum can induce homocysteinemia in malaria patients of Burkina Faso. methods: Eighty-five (85) individuals including 25 affected by severe malaria, 44 by simple malaria, and 12 negative controls for P. falciparum infection were included in the present study. An enzymatic assay of plasma homocysteinemia was performed using the Homocysteine Enzymatic Assay reagent (ref 05385415 190) on the Roche/ Hitachi Cobas c. Results: The results of the present study show that the mean plasma homocysteine concentrations were 15.1 ± 8.4 μmol/L among patients with severe malaria, 14.0 ± 6.0 μmol/L in patients with uncomplicated malaria, and 12.6 ± 4.1 μmol/L in negative controls for malaria parasite. Conclusions: Our findings suggest high homocysteinemia in malaria patients, especially in those with severe malaria. monitoring homocysteinemia in the latter group will be useful to avoid complications when an elevated plasma level of homocysteine is a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.

Introduction: Welders are an occupational group at high risk for eye injuries. The aim of this study was to investigate the state of eye protection of metal welders in the workshops of Conakry. material and methods: The study was cross-sectional, descriptive, and included 180 welders from 45 welding workshops in the city of Conakry for a period of three months. It involved all welding professionals working in an informal unit selected by the study and who had agreed to participate in the study. Results: The average age of the participants was 33.9 ± 13.4 years, with extremes of 15 and 68 years. The study found that 99% of the welders owned glasses, 27% owned face shields, and 49% owned welding masks. Goggles were used regularly by 86% of the welders but were not suitable for welding (98%). All welders had reported having had an eye injury at least once. Foreign bodies were cited in 81%, arc strike in 65%;eye burns in 61%. However, approximately 81% of welders did not have first aid kits at their work sites. Conclusion: The use of protective equipment during welding remains very low in the workshops of Conakry, which is the cause of great ocular morbidity among welders.

BACKGROUND Gastric antral vascular ectasia(GAVE)is a significant complication of *** medical,surgical,and endoscopic treatment modalities have been proposed with varied satisfactory *** a few small studies,GAVE and associated anemia have resolved after orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT).AIm To assess the impact of OLT on the resolution of GAVE and related *** We retrospectively reviewed clinical records of adult patients with GAVE who underwent OLT between September 2012 and September *** and other relevant clinical findings were collected,including hemoglobin levels and upper endoscopy findings before and after *** primary outcome was the resolution of GAVE and its related anemia after *** Sixteen patients were *** pre-OLT Hgb was 7.7 g/dL and mean 12 mo post-OLT Hgb was 11.9 g/dL,(P=0.001).Anemia improved(defined as Hgb increased by 2g)in 87.5%of patients within 6 to 12 mo after OLT and resolved completely in half of the ***-OLT esophagogastroduodenoscopy was performed in 10 patients,and GAVE was found to have resolved entirely in 6 of those patients(60%).Although GAVE and associated anemia completely resolved in the majority of our patients after OLT,GAVE persisted in a few patients after *** studies in a large group of patients are necessary to understand the causality of disease and to better understand the factors associated with the persistence of GAVE post-transplant.

Objective:To investigate mosquitocidal effects of ethanolic extract of(lowers of Tagetes erecta(***) and its chloroform and petroleum ether soluble fractions against the larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus(***).methods:The fresh flowers of *** were extracted in cold with ethanol(5.0 L) and after concentration,the ethanol extract was fractionated with chloroform and petroleum ether to afford a brownish syrupy suspension of ethanol extract(50.0 g),petroleum ether soluble fraction(18.6 g) and chloroform soluble fraction(23.8 g).The larvicidal effect of ethanol extract and their solvent fractions were determined by the standard procedure of WHO against different instars of ***:Among the tested samples the chloroform soluble fractions showed the highest toxicity and consequently,the lowest LC_(50) values(14.14 μ g/mL,17.06 μ g/mL.36.88 μ g/mL and 75.48 μ g/mL) for all the instars larvae of *** larvae showed comparative tolerance in the course of increasing age and ***:It can be concluded that the flowers of *** are very effective natural larvicide and could be useful against ***.

Objective: To describe the epidemiology, diagnosis and therapeutic outcomes of trauma to the external genitalia trauma. materials and methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study over a period of six and a half years from January 1st, 2006 to June 30th, 2012. About 42 cases of trauma to the male external genitalia were received at the emergency department of General surgery and Urology of Yalgado Ouedraogo Teaching Hospital of Ouagadougou. Results: The average age of the patients was 31.7 years and the age groups most affected were those between 16 - 26 years. Our study population were mainly pupils and students with 40.5% of cases. Causes of trauma to the external genitalia were mainly highway accident with 19 cases (45.2% of cases). 85.7% of patients presented on the day of the trauma. Scrotum and its contents were more exposed to trauma (30 cases) than penis (12 cases). Treatment was most often surgical (78.6%). The postoperative course was uneventful in 75% of the cases of testicular trauma and 72.7% of the cases of penile trauma. Conclusion: External genitalia traumas affect young people. Complications can be important like erectile dysfunction. However, the prognosis is good if treatment is early.

Epidemiological and Clinical Profile of male Hypofertility in Consultation at the Urology-Andrology of Yalgado Ouedraogo Teaching Hospital (Burkina Faso)

Objective: To determine the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of male hypofertility attending at urology for paternity desire. materials and methods: Cross-sectional study conducted from January 1st to December 31 2012 at urology department of teaching hospital Yalgado Ouedraogo. We collated men attending for hypofertility. Only subjects living regularly with their partner were retained. Results: The study concerned 95 men. The average age was 36.9 years (range: 23 years and 53 years) and 28.6 years for their wives (range: 19 years and 40 years). Patients resided in urban areas in 90.5% of cases. Gynecologists and general physicians sent respectively 77.9% (N = 74) and 17.9% (N = 17) of cases. The average consultation delay time was 3 years. The average duration of infertility was 5.8 years (Extreme: 1 year and 20 years). Infertility was primary in 68.4% of cases and secondary in 31.6% of cases. 24.2% of patients admitted for history of genitourinary infection. Varicocele was found in 22.1% of cases. The semen analysis showed that 42 men had azoospermia. The semen culture isolated a germ in 19.1% of cases. Serum FSH was high in 47.3% of cases. Conclusion: male hypofertility affected men of all age. Urologists are the last resort of the male hypo fertile, gynecologists constituting the first contact. Azoospermia is a problem commonly encountered in urological consultation.
