The antioxidative activities of subfractions;methanol (CE), chloroform (CHE) and ethyl acetate (EAE) of Teucrium polium extracts (TPE) were investigated. HPLC analysis of the plant revealed the existence of procyanidins B1 and B2, gallic acid, catechin and epicatechin. All the extracts showed inhibitory properties on xanthine oxidase, with IC50 ranging from 0.80 ± 0.07 to 11.76 ± 0.50 μM/quercetin equivalent. In the cellular system, all the extracts showed a protec-tive effect greater than those of quercetin, rutin and gallic acid against t-BHP induced oxidative damages in human erythrocytes. These results were clearly confirmed by a modified thiobarbituric acid-reactive species (TBARS), and β-carotene/linoleic acid assay which demonstrated that CHE possess an inhibition ratio of the linoleic acid oxidation (83.11%) close to that of BHT (96.77%). In addition, the results showed that the extracts possess a potent DPPH radical scavenging activity and gave a reduction power greater than rutin, quercetin, gallic acid and ascorbic acid in FRAP assay. These results show that Teucrium polium extracts have strong antioxidant effects and may have some clinical benefits.

Introduction: Skin transplant is essential in the management of skin substance losses, especially in deep burns. Our work aims to present, through a series of cases, the results of the skin self-transplant carried out to supplement the treatment of skin burns. Materials and Methods: A one-year prospective study of the total self-skin transplant performed in the management of burns in children was included. After clinic and biologic considerations, a total self-skin transplant was performed. Results: Forty-five burns were hospitalized, of which six patients received a total self-skin transplant. 液滴撞击液池过程中,一定量空气在液滴与液池间被捕获并形成空气圆盘,最终收缩为中心气泡。本文采用高速摄像实验技术和高精度数值模拟研究不同物性和撞击条件下,被捕获空气圆盘的收缩过程。揭示了被捕获空气圆盘收缩为中心气泡的动力学过程,发现了生成单一气泡、生成环状气泡、垂直分裂为两个子气泡等空气盘收缩的不同模态;定义了基于被捕获空气层平均厚度的局部Ohnesorge数Ohe,构建了基于Re数和We数的模态演化参数空间,建立了基于Ohe数的被捕获空气圆盘不同收缩模态间相互转化的无量纲标度率;提出了气泡垂直分裂的机理解释,发现对于低Ohe数的情况,被捕获空气层收缩过程中产生的涡脱落现象能阻止气泡的垂直分裂,并使气泡沿液滴撞击反方向上升或对抗浮力下降。

Polycrystalline zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have been deposited at 450°C onto glass and silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition technique (PLD). The used source was a KrF excimer laser (248 nm, 25 ns, 5 Hz, 2 J/cm2). The effects of glass and silicon substrates on structural and optical properties of ZnO films have been investigated. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that ZnO films are polycrystalline with a hexagonal wurtzite—type structure with a strong (103) orientation and have a good crystallinity on monocrystalline Si(100) substrate. The thickness and compositional depth profile were studied by Rutherford Backscattering spectrometry (RBS). The average transmittance of ZnO films deposited on glass substrate in the visible range is 70%.

Time Management of Open Lower-Leg Fractures in Morocco

Background: It is recommended that the management of open lower-leg fractures should occur within six hours to avoid complications affecting both prognosis and functionality. This study aimed to evaluate the time taken for each step of management, identify causes of delay, and propose solutions to reduce the rate of complications. Patients and methods: This was a prospective study involving 153 patients treated from January 2011 to December 2012. Standardized data collection forms documented the times taken for each management step from the accident until surgical intervention. Results: For patients admitted directly to our institution, median time to surgical debridement from arrival was 5 hours. Median time for bone fixation was 24 hours. External fixation was used in 119 patients. There were several causes of delay;lack of financial resources was the most common. Certain causes of delay were significantly correlated with time to debridement. However, although 86.7% of patients who developed an infection had a time from injury to debridement greater than six hours, there was no statistically significant association between infection and delay beyond six hours (p = 0.403). Conclusion: By identifying causes of treatment delay, we hope to be able to avoid complications, and therefore reduce the socio- economic impact of these important surgical emergencies.

In this article, thermo vibration analysis of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams subjected to linear and uniform temperature distribution is studied. The structure is modelled by new efficient shear beam theory considering the effect of shear deformation without shear correction factor. The mentioned theory satisfies the zero boundary traction conditions on the beam surfaces and can be used for transverse shear strains trigonometric distribution. Material properties of the nanostructure are assumed temperature-dependent and FG based on the distribution of power law. The influence of size scale is captured utilising Eringen theory of non-local elasticity.

Introduction: Primary deposition of amyloid can take several forms including amyloidoma organ restricted among which is brain. Brain amyloidoma can mimic several lesions and offers a diagnostic challenge to the physician. The present work reports an additional case and summarizes the salient characteristics of previously published cases. Case Report: A 61-year-old, woman experienced paroxystic auditory hallucinations followed at times by generalized tonico-clonic seizures. Examination revealed a mild left pyramidal weakness. Head CT scan and MRI revealed a lobular lesion of the right atrium with contrast enhancement. The diagnosis of amyloidoma Lambda light chain (λLC) type was performed by means of a stereotactic biopsy. The patient was treated by 3 cures of high dose methotrexate (15 mg/m2). At 24 months follow up the patient remains stable clinically and biologically. The 2 years follow-up MRI showed the same findings. Conclusion: No guidelines can be suggested for brain amyloidoma treatment;the “wait and see” was the mind-set in the literature. However, a non-tumour like pattern of a cerebral mass developing near the ventricle with a fine, irregular radiating margin enhancement and lack of oedema, and mass effect are important MRI clues for brain amyloidoma diagnosis. The diagnosis is histological after biopsy or excision.
