Background: Cancer colon is one of the most common malignancies. After colon cancer surgery patients may experience severe pain. Several studies have reported that a significant decrease in postoperative pain with propofol while other studies have showed this effect was not significant. Aim: Our goal was to assess the effect of combined epidural anaesthesia either with propofol or sevoflurane on intraoperative fentanyl consumption and postoperative pain in patients undergoing open surgical resection of colon cancer. Objective:To maintain semen quality of male rabbits during chilled storage by enrichment the tris based diluent with different concentrations of propolis ethanolic ***: Total phenolic and total flavonoid contents, as well as antioxidant activity was determined in propolis ethanolic extract (PEE). The extract was analysed by HPLC for separation and identification of target metabolites. Semen was collected from 10 rabbit bucks, pooled, then divided into five aliquots (each of 500 μL) and diluted each in 5 mL Tris-citric acid-glucose-egg yolk extender (TCGY). The 1st aliquot served as control while PEE was added at concentration of 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 mg/5 mL tris extender in the aliquot 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively. Diluted semen samples were subjected to cooling at 4℃ for 72 h. Sperm motility, sperm viability, sperm abnormality, sperm membrane integrity and acrosome integrity were evaluated in chilled semen allover the chilling ***:The resluts revealed presence of a considerable amount of total phenolic compounds (98.67 mg GAE/g extract) and total flavonoids (70.16 mg CE/g extract) which were parallel to an antioxidant activity assessed as ABTS, DPPH and FRAP (198.65, 180.18 and 306.17 mM TE/g extract respectively). The dominant phenolic acid was chlorogenic acids (3.959 mg/g extract). Other compounds were found in less amounts rosmarinic acid (3.959 mg/g extract), myrcetin (1.946 mg/g extract), kaempferol (1.089 mg/g extract) and apeginin-7-glucoside (1.113 mg/g extract). Obtained results clearly demonstrated that the addition of (1.2-1.6) mg PEE in the chilled extended rabbit semen proved to be beneficial for maintaining semen characteristics compared to control and the addition of 0.8 and 2 mg ***: The enrichment of rabbit semen tris-basic extender with (1.2-1.6) mg PEE/5 mL tris-extender (as the best and safe concentrations) maintain the sperm characteristics in good condition all over 72 h of chilling.

The main purpose of this work is to shed light on the possibility of producing huge amount of energy based on the construction matter-antimatter plasma in a molecular crystal. It is assumed that two beams of isothermal hydrogen and antihydrogen are injected into a palladium crystal leading to a plasma state composed of particles and antiparticles. The collapse of this state releases a huge amount of energy which can be used as fuel for space shuttles. Thus, the novel system of isothermal pressure interaction enhances the energy power carried out by the quantum ion acoustic soliton (QIAS). In addition to the energy power released from the particle-antiparticle annihilation. The probability of merging the energy from these two cases is available at certain condition. The released energy may be a significant step in solving the energy scape of Tokomak to produce fusion energy. The study starting from the one-dimensional quantum hydrodynamic model (in which the term of electron-positron and proton-antiproton for hydrogen-antihydrogen is included), a Korteweg de Vries equation (kdv) is derived, the QIAS energy experiences and the annihilation energy power are calculated. It is found that the total energy of QIAS and the energy resulting from hydrogen-antihydrogen annihilation are important step towards the establishment of a cold fusion power station.

AIM: To study diagnostic laparoscopy as a tool for excluding donors on the day of surgery in living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).METHODS: This study analyzed prospectively collected data from all potential donors for LDLT. All of the donors were subjected to a three-step donor evaluation protocol at our institution. Step one consisted of a clinical and social evaluation, including a liver profile, hepatitis markers, a renal profile, a complete blood count, and an abdominal ultrasound with Doppler. Step two involved tests to exclude liver diseases and to evaluate the donor’s serological status. This step also included a radiological evaluation of the biliary anatomy and liver vascular anatomy using magnetic resonance cholan-giopanc reatography and a computed tomography (CT) angiogram, respectively. A CT volumetric study was used to calculate the volume of the liver parenchyma. Step three included an ultrasound-guided liver biopsy. Between November 2002 and May 2009, sixty-nine potential living donors were assessed by open exploration prior to harvesting the planned part of the liver. Between the end of May 2009 and October 2010, 30 potential living donors were assessed laparoscopically to determine whether to proceed with the abdominal incision to harvest part of the liver for donation. RESULTS: Ninety-nine living donor liver transplants were attempted at our center between November 2002 and October 2010. Twelve of these procedures were aborted on the day of surgery (12.1%) due to donor findings, and eighty-seven were completed (87.9%). These 87 liver transplants were divided into the following groups: Group A, which included 65 transplants that were performed between November 2002 and May 2009, and Group B, which included 22 transplants that were performed between the end of May 2009 and October 2010. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). We sought to establish for the first time in Saudi Arabia an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) profile of DM patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Patients and methods: We retrospectively analyzed 210 IVUS studies in 181 patients hospitalized in King Salman Heart Centre for ACS. IVUS was performed to guide percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) of borderline moderate lesions. Results: Mean age was 58 ± 10 years, 78% (n = 163) of IVUS studies were performed in men. There were 71% (n = 128) patients with DM. ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) was the most common clinical presentation (47%, n = 88 patients). As compared to non-DM, the intermediate lesions of DM patients had a significantly larger IVUS plaque volume (267 ± 174 mm3 versus 193 ± 111 mm3, p Conclusion: IVUS demonstrates longer lesions to be treated in DM patients with ACS in Saudi Arabia, however no difference in average plaque burden or remodelling index. These findings are likely to impact our understanding of optimal PCI strategies in DM patients.

The physico-chemical and biological （algal and bacterial） quality of tap water in Tanta City were elucidated. Samples were collected during December 2011, covering all the water plants and the areal extension of the pipe line network in Tanta. Total dissolved solids content classifies water origin into surface water, shallow and deep groundwater. Fe, Mn and hardness in some samples of groundwater origin are obviously exceeding the WHO （World Health Organization） limit. Mostly, green algae are found （31 species）, followed by diatoms （19 species）, then blue-green algae （13 species）. CCA （Canonical Corresponding Analysis） indicates that green algae are strongly correlated with pH, NH4, alkalinity, Mn and Si; diatoms with EC （electric conductivity）, turbidity, Zn and Si and blue green algae with EC and alkalinity. 50% of samples of surface origin, 80% of samples of both deep and shallow groundwater origins crossed WHO and Egyptian guideline in their content of mean TCC （Total Coliform Count）. CCA estimates strong correlations of TCC with temperature, NH4 and PO4; E. coli with EC; heterotrophic bacteria with turbidity and NO3; Salmonella sp. with Si and SO4 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with Mn. Finally, the water plants treatment may be not effective and pipes serve as a reservoir for pathogenic microorganisms.

Background: Minimal hepatic Encephalopathy (MHE) is defined as HE without symptoms on clinical/neurological examination, but with deficits in some cognitive areas that can only be measured by neuropsychometric testing. However, numerous studies have shown that, although the neurological symptoms are slight, affected patients are markedly impaired in their quality of life and ability to work. Various treatment modalities that have been shown to reverse MHE include lactulose/lactitol, probiotics/synbiotics, L-carnitine but rifaximin has shown a general trend toward better efficacy and better tolerability in patients with overt hepatic encephalopathy (OHE). Objective: Our objective is to assess the diagnostic role of minimental state examination (MMSE), electroencephalography (EEG) and visual evoked potential (VEP) in detection of MHE and to evaluate the efficacy of rifaximin in improving EEG and VEP in patients with MHE. Patients and Methods: Sixty cirrhotic patients were enrolled in the study depending on clinical evidence of stigmata of chronic liver disease, laboratory investigations including liver function tests, ultrasonographic features of liver cirrhosis and with no evidence of overt hepatic encephalopathy. Diagnois of MHE was made depending on minimental state examination (MMSE) and neurophysiological tools including EEG and VEP. A control group of sixty healthy volunteers with age and sex matched were included. The patient group received Rifaximin 550 mg twice daily for 8 weeks then follow up EEG and VEP studies were done. Results: MHE was detected in 36.7%, 48.3%, 51.7% of our series based on MMSE, EEG and VEP respectively. Child Pouph A, B, C was found in 51.7%, 35%, 13.3% respectively. Rifaximin was well tolerated. We present results of an experimental study of magnetoresistance phenomenon in an amorphous silicon-nickel alloys a-Si1-yNiy:H:H (where y = 0.23) on the insulating side of the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in presence of magnetic field up to 4.5 T and at very low temperature. The electrical resistivity is found to follow the Efros-Shklovskii Variable Range Hopping regime (ES VRH) with T -1/2. This behaviour indicates the existence of the Coulomb gap (CG) near the Fermi level.
