Annual.forage l.gumes are import.nt.component. of l.vest.ck product.on syst.ms in East.t.xas and t.e sout.east.rn US. Forage l.gumes cont.ibut. nit.ogen (N) t. cropping syst.ms t.rough biol.gical.N fixat.on, and t.eir seasonal.biomass product.on can be managed t. compl.ment.forage grasses. Our research object.ves were t. eval.at. bot. warm- and cool.season annual.forage l.gumes as green manure for biomass, N cont.nt. abil.t. t. enhance soil.organic carbon (SOC) and soil.N, and impact.on post.season forage grass crops. Nine warm-season forage l.gumes (WSl. were spring pl.nt.d and incorporat.d as green manure in t.e fal.. Forage rye (Secal. cereal. l.) was pl.nt.d fol.owing t.e incorporat.on of WSl.t.eat.ent.. Eight.cool.season forage l.gumes (CSl. were fal. pl.nt.d in previousl. fal.ow pl.t. and incorporat.d as green manure in l.t. spring. Sorghum-sudangrass (Sorghum bicol.r x Sorghum bicol.r var. sudanense) was pl.nt.d over al. t.eat.ent. in earl. summer aft.r forage rye harvest.and incorporat.on of CSl.t.eat.ent.. Sorghum-sudangrass was harvest.d in June, August.and Sept.mber, and t.eat.ent. were eval.at.d for dry mat.er and N concent.at.on. Soil.cores were t.ken from each pl.t. spl.t.int. dept.s of 0 t. 15, 15 t. 30 and 30 t. 60 cm, and soil.C and N were measured using combust.on anal.sis. Nyl.n mesh bags cont.ining pl.nt.sampl.s were buried at.15 cm and used t. eval.at. decomposit.on rat. of above ground l.gume biomass, incl.ding change in C and N concent.at.ons. Mungbean (Vigna radiat. l. [Wil.zek]) had t.e highest.shoot.biomass yiel. (6.24 t.DM ha-1) and cont.ibut.d t.e most.t.t.l.N (167 kg∙ha-1) and t.t.l.C (3043 kg∙ha-1) of t.e WSl.t.st.d. For t.e ant.-infl.mmat.ry act.vit. t.st. rat. were given t.e et.anol.c ext.act.of F. umbel.at. l.aves at.doses of 100, 300 and 500 mg/Kg or aspirin® at.a concent.at.on of 100 mg/Kg PC oral.y, one hour before inject.on of 0.05 ml.of 1% formal.n under t.e pl.nt.r fascia of t.e rat.s right.hind paw. Paw vol.me measurement. were t.ken one, t.o and t.ree hours aft.r formal.n inject.on, using an el.ct.onic cal.per. Aft.r 14 days of observat.on, no deat.s were observed in t.eat.d rat.. t.e l.50 of et.anol.c ext.act.of Ficus umbel.at. l.af powder is great.r t.an 5000 mg/Kg body weight. t.is ext.act.has no significant.effect. on hemat.l.gical.paramet.rs and on t.e main markers of nephrot.xicit. and hepat.t.xicit. for a singl. dose of l.ss t.an 5000 mg/Kg PC.
