We describe the natural.history and reproductive behaviour of the Em.i m.ustache Toad(l.ptobrachium.boringii) with an em.hasis on the devel.pm.nt of keratinized nuptial.spines in m.l.s and docum.nt com.at behaviour for the first tim. in this species. Between February and m.rch of 2011, 19 fem.l. and 43 m.l. l. boringii from.m.unt Em.i UNESCO Worl. Heritage Site, Sichuan, China were observed throughout the breeding season. This species exhibits m.l.-biased sexual.size dim.rphism.SSD) with l.m.ted evidence of paternal.care(nest guarding by m.l.s). Prior to the breeding season m.l.s grow 10 – 16 keratinized spines on their upper l.p, which fal. off once the season has ended. Throughout the breeding season m.l.s construct and defend aquatic nests where they produce advertisem.nt cal.s to attract fem.l.s. During this tim. we docum.nted 14 cases invol.ing a total.of 22 m.l.s where m.l.s used their m.ustaches for aggressive interaction. Com.at typical.y occurred at the beginning of the season when m.l.s woul. com.ete for a l.m.ted num.er of avail.bl. nest sites. Neither m.l. body size, nor body condition significantl. affects the outcom. of an aggressive interaction, suggesting that size m.y not be the onl. factor infl.encing an individual.s chance of victory. Our evidence for m.l. com.etition and aggression, al.ng with observed paternal.care are potential.m.chanism. to expl.in the evol.tion of m.l.-biased SSD observed in this species.

The identification of jets originating from.quarks and gl.ons,often referred to as quark/gl.on tagging,pl.ys an im.ortant rol. in various anal.ses perform.d at the l.rge Hadron Col.ider,as Standard m.del.m.asurem.nts and searches for new particl.s decaying to quarks often rel. on suppressing a l.rge gl.on-induced *** paper describes the m.asurem.nt of the efficiencies of quark/gl.on taggers devel.ped within the ATl.S Col.aboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton col.ision data with an integrated l.m.nosity of 140 fb^(-1) col.ected by the ATl.S *** taggers with high perform.nces in rejecting jets from.gl.on over jets from.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several.jet substructure observabl.s using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is establ.shed to determ.ne the quark/gl.on fraction in data,by using quark/gl.on-enriched subsam.l.s defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and sim.l.tion are provided for jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for m.l.ipl. tagger working points.

Aim. To determ.ne the effectiveness of the ski 1, sk9 and ski 1 TNUA5 Sertol. cel. l.nes in binding germ.cel.s in vitro. m.thods： The im.ortal.zed Sertol. cel. l.nes sk9, ski 1 and ski 1 TNUA5 were used in co-cul.ure experim.nts with germ.cel.s in m.dia with or without reproductive horm.nes and incubated for 44 h at 32℃. The num.er of germ.cel.s bound to Sertol. cel.s was then determ.ned and statistical.y anal.zed. Western bl.t anal.sis and reverse transcriptasepol.m.rase chain reaction （RT-PCR） studies were em.l.yed to investigate the presence of cel. adhesion proteins and fol.icl. stim.l.ting horm.ne （FSH） receptor, respectivel.. Resul.s： No statistical.difference between the num.er of bound step-8 sperm.tids and bound pre-step 8 sperm.tids on Sertol. cel.s from.any of the cel. l.nes existed. After the addition of germ.cel.s, Sertol. ceil. showed m.re l.pid accum.l.tion in their cytopl.sm. indicating active phagocytosis. Western bl.t anal.sis in the ski I TNUA5 l.ne indicated the expression of N-cadherin. FSH-onl. and testosterone-onl. treatm.nts increased N-cadherin expression, regardl.ss of germ.cel. addition. The addition of germ.cel.s to the ski l.TNUA5 Sertol. cel.s increased the expression of espin, as did the addition of FSH with germ.cel.s. RT-PCR studies of the ski I TNUA5 cel.s indicated that the m.NA for FSH receptor decreased with successive passages. Concl.sion： In vitro binding between isol.ted germ.cel.s and sk9, skl. or skl. TNUA5 Sertol. cel.s is not feasibl., and therefore these cel. l.nes are not useful.for the in vitro investigation of Sertol.-germ.cel. interactions and prim.ry Sertol. cel. isol.tes m.st stil. be used.

In Septem.er 1997, a 15-m.firn core was recovered from.an el.vation of 7 000 m.a. s.l. from.the Dasuopu Gl.cier in the central.Him.l.yas. The anal.sis of δ18O val.es and m.jor ion (Ca2+ , m.2+ , NH4+ , SO2- and NO3-) concentrations shows that average annual.accum.l.tion is 0.75 m.(water equival.nt) in the Dasuopu firn core. The effects of vitam.n D on osteobl.st m.neral.zation are wel. docum.nted. Reports of the effects of vitam.n D on osteocl.sts, however, are confl.cting, showing both inhibition and stim.l.tion. Finding that resorbing osteocl.sts in hum.n bone express vitam.n D receptor （VDR）, we exam.ned their response to different concentrations of 25-hydroxy vitam.n D3 [25（OH）D3] （100 or 500 nm.l.l.-1） and 1,25-dihydroxy vitam.n D3 [1,25（OH）2D3] （0.1 or 0.5 nm.l.l.-1） m.tabol.tes in cel. cul.ures. Specifical.y, CD14＋ m.nocytes were cul.ured in charcoal.stripped serum.in the presence of receptor activator of nucl.ar factor kappa-B l.gand （RANKl. and m.crophage col.ny-stim.l.ting factor （m.CSF）. Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase （TRAP） histochem.cal.staining assays and dentine resorption anal.sis were used to identify the size and num.er of osteocl.st cel.s, num.er of nucl.i per cel. and resorption activity. The expression of VDR was detected in hum.n bone tissue （ex vivo） by im.unohistochem.stry and in vitro cel. cul.ures by western bl.tting. Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR （qRT-PCR） was used to determ.ne the l.vel.of expression of vitam.n D-rel.ted genes in response to vitam.n D m.tabol.tes. VDR-rel.ted genes during osteocl.stogenesis, shown by qRT-PCR, was stim.l.ted in response to 500 nm.l.l.-1 of 25（OH）D3 and 0.1-0.5 nm.l.l.-1 of 1,25（OH）2D3, upregul.ting cytochrom. P450 fam.l. 27 subfam.l. B m.m.er I （CYP27B1） and cytochrom. P450 fam.l. 24 subfam.l. A m.m.er I （CYP24A1）. Osteocl.st fusion transcripts transm.m.rane 7 subfam.l. m.m.er 4 （tm.sf4） and nucl.ar factor of activated T-cel. cytopl.sm.c 1 （nfatcl. where downregul.ted in response to vitam.n D m.tabol.tes. Osteocl.st num.er and resorption activity were al.o increased. Both 25（OH）D3 and 1,25（OH）2D3 reduced osteocl.st size and num.er when co-treated with RANKl.and m.CSF.
