Biology of the aphid Therioaphis maculata was studied on alfalfa （Medicago sativa L.）, including four resistant （Mesa-Sirsa, CUF101, Baker and Lahontan） and two susceptible （ARC and Caliverde） alfalfa cultivars, and one of the most cropped Brazilian cultivars, Crioula. Under controlled conditions, antibiosis （i.e., reduced longevity, fecundity and increased mortality of the aphid） was observed mainly on the resistant alfalfa cultivars, except on Lahontan. Crioula seemed to be tolerant to aphids. Present data support geographic limitation usage of cultivars, and we suggest Baker and Mesa-Sirsa as sources of antibiosis, and provide biological information of a tropical T. maculata biotype on alfalfa.

Spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

Spinal cord injury(SCI)involves an initial traumatic phase,followed by secondary events such as ischemia,increased blood-spinal cord barrier permeability,ionic disruption,glutamate excitotoxicity,and metabolic alterations.A pe rsistent and exagge rated inflammato ry response within the spinal cord accompanies these events(Lima et al.,2022).The complexity and interplay of these mechanisms exacerbate the initial injury,leading to a degenerative process at the injury *** the initial trauma is unavoidable,the secondary injury begins within minutes and can last for months,creating an optimal window for therapeutic intervention.

Rainfall simulators(RS)have been used,above all,to evaluate hydrological processes related to soil water infiltration,surface runoff and soil *** allow repeatability of rain application with different precipitation intensities in field and/or laboratory conditions and should produce events with physical characteristics similar to natural *** this manuscript,we carried out a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of studies with simulated rainfall in Brazil to assess the temporal evolution of publications,the main topics addressed and the degree of technological development of the *** searched for the terms“rainfall simulator”OR“simulated rainfall”AND“Brazil”in the Scopus,Web of Science,ScieLO and Google Scholar *** found 143 articles published in the last 37 years(1985-2022).Our findings indicate that the main research areas covered in papers are soil erosion(57.34%),soil water infiltration(24.47%),nutrient losses(9.8%)and RS development and calibration/assessment(8.39%).In recent years,the number of published papers in international high-impact factor journals has *** of the papers(49.65%)refer to studies carried out by institutions located in the south and southeast regions of ***,there is a large gap of studies on simulated rainfall in other regions of Brazil,where important biomes such as the Cerrado,Amazon,Caatinga,and their transitions are *** study informs research priorities on soil erosion under simulated rainfall and provides a bibliographic database that can assist in more detailed future analyses.

eucalyptus adult material requires more successive subcultures in the in vitro multiplication phase for increased vigor and cellular activity. This study evaluated the endophytic manifestation and shoot multiplication of one 13-year-old eucalyptus benthamii clone under different culture conditions and used canopy branches(CB) and trunk base material as explant sources. The culture media were wood plant medium(WPM), Murashige and Skoog medium(MS) and JADS(Correia and co-authors medium).Based on the results of the initial multiplication experiment, further tests examined sucrose concentrations and p H. Morphophysiology, dry mass production, endophyticmanifestation and histochemical were determined. explant sources responded differently to MS and JADS media, but the WPM medium promoted homogeneous *** responses were similar for both explant sources when sucrose concentrations varied. Shoots died in the absence of sucrose, showed high oxidation at 60 g L-1 and optimal development at 30 g L-1. endophytes were more evident for shoots from the CB origin. explant sources responded distinctively to treatment due to physiological and intrinsic genetic factors. Therefore, explant sources, different culture media, sucrose concentration and p H may determine micropropagation success and influence the presence and/or intensity of endophytic manifestation.

Hardy spaces with generalized parameter are introduced following the maximal characterization approach. As particular cases, they include the classical Hp spaces and the Hardy-Lorentz spaces H^p,q. Real interpolation results with function parameter are obtained, Based on them, the behavior of some classical operators is studied in this generalized setting.

Aljustrel mines were classified as having high environmental hazard due to their large tailings volume and high metal concentrations in waters and *** assess acid mine drainage impacted systems whose environmental conditions change quickly,the use of biological indicators with short generation time such as diatoms is *** study combined geochemical and diatom data,whose results were highlighted in 3 groups：Group 1,with low p H（1.9–5.1）and high metal/metalloid（Al,As,Cd,Co,Cu,Fe,Mn,Ni,Pb,Zn;0.65–1032 mg/L）and SO4（405–39124 mg/L）*** acidophilic species,Pinnularia aljustrelica,was perfectly adapted to the adverse conditions;in contrast,teratological forms of eunotia exigua were found,showing that metal toxicity affected this *** low availability of metals/metalloids in sediments of this group indicates that metals/metalloids of the exchangeable fractions had been solubilized,which in fact enables metal/metalloid diatom uptake and consequently the occurrence of teratologies;Group 2,with sites of near neutral p H（5.0–6.8）and intermediate metal/metalloid（0.002–6 mg/L）and SO4（302–2179 mg/L）concentrations;this enabled the existence of typical species of uncontaminated streams（Brachysira neglectissima,Achnanthidium minutissimum）;Group 3,with samples from unimpacted sites,showing low metal/metalloid（0–0.8 mg/L）and SO4（10–315 mg/L）concentrations,high pH（7.0–8.4）and Cl contents（10–2119 mg/L）and the presence of brackish to marine species（entomoneis paludosa）.For similar conditions of acidity,differences in diversity,abundance and teratologies of diatoms can be explained by the levels of metals/metalloids.

Spouted beds (SBs) have a long history of successful applications for preparation of solid dosage forms of pharmaceuticals. The well-known versatility of SBs, provided by different design and operational factors, and their efficient mixing of solids allow for engineering of technological characteristics of pharmaceutical solid forms. Particle properties like morphology, size, porosity, flowability, and dissolution rate can be improved by managing geometric and operational conditions for spouting. Drying is probably the most disseminated operation for pharmaceutical processing in SBs, and many studies have investigated drying of medicinal plant extracts such as achiote (Bixa orellana sp.), guarana (Paullinia cupana sp.), passion flower (Passiflora alata D.), and rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) with excellent pharmacotechnical and stability results. Another important application is coating of tablets and gelatin capsules, and previous studies have shown that SBs and spout–fluid beds may be advantageous over traditional pan coating, especially for polymeric film coating. Recently, an alternative process for improving drug bioavailability has involved preparation of β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes in SBs. The first study to propose SBs for this pharmaceutical application explored the advantage of obtaining solid forms of inclusion complexes in just one step, and obtained expressive increases in drug solubility. The technique has been applied in subsequent studies on inclusion complexes of the medication carvedilol and uxi (endopleura uchi L.) extracts.

Brazilian pre-salt reservoirs are renowned for their intricate pore networks and vuggy nature,posing significant challenges in modeling and simulating fluid flow within these carbonate *** possessing excellent petrophysical properties,such as high porosity and permeability,these reservoirs typically exhibit a notably low recovery factor,sometimes falling below 10%.Previous research has indicated that various enhanced oil recovery(eOR)methods,such as water alternating gas(WAG),can substantially augment the recovery factor in pre-salt reservoirs,resulting in improvements of up to 20%.Nevertheless,the fluid flow mechanism within Brazilian carbonate reservoirs,characterized by complex pore geometry,remains *** study examines the behavior of fluid flow in a similar heterogeneous porous material,utilizing a plug sample obtained from a vugular segment of a Brazilian stromatolite outcrop,known to share analogies with certain pre-salt *** conducted single-phase and multi-phase core flooding experiments,complemented by medical-CT scanning,to generate flow streamlines and evaluate the efficiency of water ***,micro-CT scanning of the core sample was performed,and two cross-sections from horizontal and vertical plates were *** cross-sections were then employed as geometries in a numerical simulator,enabling us to investigate the impact of pore geometry on fluid *** of the pore-scale modeling and experimental data unveiled that the presence of dead-end pores and vugs results in a significant portion of the fluid remaining stagnant within these ***,the injected fluid exhibits channeling-like behavior,leading to rapid breakthrough and low areal swept ***,the numerical simulation results demonstrated that,irrespective of the size of the dead-end regions,the pressure variation within the dead-end vugs and pores is *** the stromatolite's favorable petrophysica

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a rare chronic inflammatory disease of the liver, which affects a group of patients who lost their immunological tolerance to antigens of the liver. It is clinically characterized by hypergammaglobulinemia, elevated liver enzymes, presence of autoantibodies and histological changes. Although being rare in children, it represents a serious cause of chronic hepatic disease that can lead to cirrhosis and hepatic failure. Clinical findings, exclusion of more common liver disorders and the detection of antibodies antinuclear antibodies, smooth muscle antibodies and anti-LKM1 are usually enough for diagnosis on clinical practice. The pathogenic mechanisms that lead to AIH remain obscure, but some research findings suggest the participation of immunologic and genetic factors. It is not yet knew the triggering factor or factors that stimulate inflammatory response. Several mechanisms proposed partially explain the immunologic findings of AIH. The knowledge of immune factors evolved might result in better markers of prognosis and response to treatment. In this review, we aim to evaluate the findings of research about genetic and immune markers and their perspectives of application in clinical practice especially in pediatric population.
