With the ascent of robotic architecture in academic discourse, we ought to reconsider how we understand building cognition. This paper revisits the Rietveld Schröder House from 1924 as a precursor of robotic building. With a built-in capacity for change, the building (now a museum and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site) has a highly adaptable space plan that could be continually reconfigured by its occupants. The agency of change is shared between the house and its occupants, most notably Truus Schröder, who lived in the house for 60 years. This paper takes a material engagement approach to explore the relation between the occupant and the house and speculates how this might be a model for designers of contemporary and future robotic architecture to rethink concepts of autonomy and agency in building cognition.

This paper is a continuation of the authors recent work[Beirao da Veiga,H.and Yang,J.,On mixed pressure-velocity regularity criteria to the Navier-Stokes equations in Lorentz spaces,Chin.Ann.Math.,42(1),2021,1-16],in which mixed pressure-velocity criteria in Lorentz spaces for Leray-Hopf weak solutions of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations,in the whole space R^(3) and in the periodic torus T^(3),are established.The purpose of the present work is to extend the result of mentioned above to smooth,bounded domains Ω,under the non-slip boundary condition.Let π denote the fluid pressure and v the fluid velocity.It is shown that if π/(1+|v|^(θ))∈L^(p)(0,T;L^(q,∞)(Ω)),where 0≤θ≤1,and 2/p+3/q=2-θwith p≥2,then v is regular on Ω×(0,T].

While blockchain technology is commonly considered potentially disruptive in various regards,there is a lack of understanding where and how blockchain technology is effectively applicable and where it has remarkable practical effects~([1]).Against this background,we present and discuss a case study at length on the impact of this technology in the concrete setting of small short-term loans in retail banking.We propose to banks a robust and scalable blockchain technology with proof of stake and limited energy consumption used to streamline their processes,resulting in lower transaction and administration costs.This is made possible by smart contracts.Thereby,we facilitate small scale lending at high frequencies and short-term duration as well as an easier and more efficient way to connect small borrowers and lenders.

Seismic fragility assessment of revised MRT buildings considering typical construction changes

The present study investigates the vulnerability assessment of the prototype revised Mandatory Rule of Thumb(MRT)buildings initially designed and detailed for three storeys bare frame building;later modified through variable number of storeys(three,four,and five)and different arrangement of infill walls(bare frame,soft-storey,irregular infilled,and fully infilled).The application of infill walls increases the fundamental frequencies,stiffness,and maximum strength capacity,but reduces the deformation capability than the bare frame building.The vulnerability was also reduced through infill walls,where the probability of exceeding partial-collapse and collapse damage reduced by 80% and 50%,respectively.Furthermore,the increased in storeys(three to five)also increases the failure probability,such that partial-collapse and collapse for fully infilled increases by almost 55% and 80%,respectively.All obtained results and discussions concluded that the structural sections and details assigned for MRT building is not sufficient if considered as bare frame and soft-storey.And increase in number of storeys causes building highly vulnerable although the infill walls were considered.

Background Fever of unknown origin(FUO)continues to challenge clinicians to determine an etiology and the need for treatment.This study explored the most common etiologies,characteristics,and average cost of hospitalization for FUO in a pediatric population at an urban,tertiary care hospital in Washington,DC.Methods Records from patients admitted to Children's National Health System between September 2008 and April 2014 with an admission ICD-9 code for fever(780.6)were reviewed.The charts of patients 2-18 years of age with no underlying diagnosis and a temperature greater than 38.3℃for 7 days or more at time of hospitalization were included.Final diagnoses,features of admission,and total hospital charges were abstracted.Results 110 patients qualified for this study.The majority of patients(n=42,38.2%)were discharged without a diagnosis.This was followed closely by infection,accounting for 37.2%(n=41)of patients.Rheumatologic disease was next(n=16,14.5%),followed by miscellaneous(n=6,5.4%)and oncologic diagnoses(n=5,4.5%).The average cost of hospitalization was 40,295 US dollars.Conclusions This study aligns with some of the most recent publications which report undiagnosed cases as the most common outcome in patients hospitalized with FUO.Understanding that,often no diagnosis is found may reassure patients,families,and clinicians.The cost associated with hospitalization for FUO may cause clinicians to reconsider inpatient admission for diagnostic work-up of fever,particularly given the evidence demonstrating that many patients are discharged without a diagnosis.
