Potential immunomodulatory role of sesamin in combating immune dysregulation associated with COVID-19

The ongoing outbreak of novel coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),has caused an unprecedented global health *** of a cure for this devastating disease is currently at full speed,with several vaccines against COVID-19 already authorized and ***,demand for these vaccines far exceeds *** such,boosting immunity represents a viable route to halt the rapid spread of SARS-CoV-2 and limit fatalities until vaccines become more readily and widely *** use of phytochemicals appears to be a promising ***,a lignan isolated from Sesamum indicum seeds,is known for its potent pharmacological properties,and is therefore hypothesized as a potential candidate in the therapeutic regimen against ***,we highlight the confirmed therapeutic anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory potential of sesamin against myriads of respiratory disorders,and tentatively suggest that sesamin may exert similar potent effects against ***,we speculate that sesamin may help alleviate COVID-19 via restoring Th1/Th2 balance and preventing inflammation and cytokine storm ***,we further support the promising role of sesamin against COVID-19 by underscoring the direct evidence,which suggests that sesamin may demonstrate promising inhibitory potential against three important SARS-CoV-2 targets,namely main protease,spike protein,and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 *** preliminary,there is ample evidence to propose sesamin as a potential phytotherapeutic and prophylactic candidate against *** in vitro,in vivo,and preclinical studies are required to further substantiate the role of sesamin in the prevention and/or treatment of COVID-19.

The enlarged veins in the pampiniform venous plexus,known as varicocele disease,are typically identified using ultrasound *** diagnosis of varicocele is based on examinations made in three positions taken to the right and left testicles of the male *** proposed system is designed to determine whether a patient is *** is more frequent on the left side of the scrotum than on the right and physicians commonly depend on the supine position more than other ***,the experimental results of this study focused on images taken in the supine position of the left testicles of *** are two possible vein structures in each image:a cross-section(circular)and a tube(non-circular)*** proposed system identifies dilated(varicocele)veins of these structures in ultrasound images in three stages:preprocessing,processing,and detection and *** three stages are applied in three different color modes:Grayscale,Red-Green-Blue(RGB),and Hue,Saturation,and Value(HSV).In the preprocessing stage,the region of interest enclosing the pampiniform plexus area is extracted using a median filter and threshold ***,the processing stage employs different filters to perform image ***,edge detection is applied in multiple steps and the detected veins are measured to determine if dilated veins *** implementation results showed the proposed system is faster andmore effective than the previous work.

The dielectric function of some phthalocyanine compounds （ZnPc, H2Pc, CuPc, and FePc） were investigated by analyzing the measured capacitance and loss tangent data. The real part of the dielectric constant, ca, varies strongly with frequency and temperature. The frequency dependence was expressed as： ε1 = Aε^n, where the index, n, assumes negative values （n 〈 0）. In addition, the imaginary part of the dielectric constant, ε2, is also frequency and temperature dependent. Data analysis confirmed that ε2 = Bo）m with values of m less than zero. At low frequencies and all temperatures, a strong dependence is observed, while at higher frequencies, a moderate dependence is obvious especially for the Au-electrode sample. Qualitatively, the type of electrode material had little effect on the behavior of the dielectric constant but did affect its value. Analysis of the AC conductivity dependence on frequency at different temperatures indicated that the correlated barrier hopping （CBH） model is the most suitable mechanism for the AC conduction behavior. maximum barrier height, W, has been estimated for ZnPc with different electrode materials （Au and AI）, and had values between 0.10 and 0.9 eV. For both electrode types, the maximum barrier height has strong frequency dependence at high frequency and low temperatures. The relaxation time, r, for ZnPc and FePc films increases with decreasing frequency. The activation energy was derived from the slopes of r versus 1/T curves. At low temperatures, an activation energy value of about 0.01 eV and 0.04 eV was estimated for ZnPc and FePc, respectively. The low values of activation energy suggest that the hopping of charge carriers between localized states is the dominant mechanism.

Bariatric surgeries are often complicated by de-novo gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)or worsening of pre-existing *** growing rates of obesity and bariatric surgeries worldwide are paralleled by an increase in the number of patients requiring post-surgical GERD ***,there is currently no standardized approach for the assessment of GERD in these *** this review,we delineate the relationship between GERD and the most common bariatric surgeries:sleeve gastrectomy(SG)and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB),with a focus on pathophysiology,objective assessment,and underlying anatomical and motility *** suggest a stepwise algorithm to help diagnose GERD after SG and RYGB,determine the underlying cause,and guide the management and treatment.

Background: Sepsis was a life-threatening situation affecting roughly 27 million individuals globally every year. Devoid of proper management, sepsis could develop to austere sepsis and septic shock that reason certain eight million expiries every year. Initial identification and analysis of contaminations and quick introductions of antimicrobial management had long been predictable as essential principles of treatment. methods: All patients were evaluated thoroughly by history, clinical and laboratory findings. Serum lactate levels were collected at 0 hr and 24 hrs of the total admission in the ICU. Blood culture and sensitivity was performed prior to antibiotic administration in this study. Results: In this research, total sample was 1367 patients. Among these sepsis patients were 305 (nearly 22%). These 305 studied sepsis cases, majority 128 (42%) of the patients were within the age group of 41 - 65 years, followed by 18 - 30 years consisting of 116 (38%) and the least number of sepsis patients were in the age group of >65 years (20%). This study found that 129 (42.3%) out of 305 blood samples screened from assumed sepsis infection were affirmative for the presence of sepsis causing pathogens. Among the 129 culture positive samples, majority of the isolated micro-organisms were gram negative bacteria 58% (75), followed by gram positive bacteria 38% (49), and 3.8% (5) were the fungi Candida albicans. Conclusion: At present, mortality & morbidity of sepsis subject was too big due to late identification, wrong & inadequate management of sepsis in the ward and also in the intensive care unit of Bangladesh.

With the large number of mPPT techniques, each having some merits and demerits, confusion is always there for their proper selection. Discussion on various proposed procedures for maximum power point tracking of photovoltaic array has been done. Based on different parameters analysis of mPPT techniques is carried out. This assessment will serve as a suitable reference for selection, understanding different ways and means of mPPT.

Acute pancreatitis(AP)associated with intravenous administration of propofol has been described with unknown causal *** therefore assessed this causality in a systematic *** databases were searched on 16 August 2017;studies were appraised and selected by two reviewers based on a priori *** causality was evaluated with the Naranjo scale and Badalov *** identified 18 studies from 11 countries with a total of 21 patients,and the majority had adequate methodological *** median age was 35 years(range,4–77)and 10(48%)were ***,propofol was administrated in 8 patients as sedative along with induction/maintenance of anesthesia in 13 patients;median dose was 200 mg,with intermediate latency(1–30 days)in 14(67%).Serum triglycerides were>1000 mg/dL in four *** AP was observed in four patients(19%).AP recurrence occurred in one out of two patients who underwent *** related to AP was 3/21(14%).Propofol was the probable cause of AP according to the Naranjo scale in 19 patients(89%).Propofol-induced AP has a probable causal relation and evidence supports Badalov class *** is not the only mechanism by which propofol illicit ***-induced AP was severe in 19%of patients with a mortality rate related to AP of 14%.Future research is needed to delineate whether this risk is higher if combined with other procedures that portend inherent risk of pancreatitis such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

Low salinity water flooding(LSWF)was initially considered using water with a low concentration of dissolved salts and was later extended to include modifying the ionic content of injected *** work investigates the effects of changing water salinity and composition along with the concentration of sulfate and iodide ions on oil recovery in carbonate reservoirs during the tertiary recovery *** experimental study was carried out using crude oil of 29°API,8 core samples extracted from the Eocene carbonate reservoir(Egypt),and 6 different water *** results showed additional oil recovery up to 5%of the original oil in place(OOIP)in the tertiary recovery stage with changing water salinity and water *** of high salinity(HS)and low salinity(LS)brines with high sulfate concentrations increased the incremental oil recovery by a value ranging from 1.7 to 3.8%of the *** the contrary,injection of HS and LS brines with low sulfate concentrations showed insignificant incremental oil recovery(less than 1%of the OOIP).Furthermore,injection of water with potassium iodide(kI)after injection of water with high sulfate brines showed additional oil recovery of about 1.7%of the *** the other hand,injection of water with kI after injection of water with low sulfate concentration showed insignificant incremental oil recovery(less than 0.4%of the OOIP).The concentration of sulfate in the injected water appeared to be key parameter to achieve effective waterflooding(WF)projects in carbonate ***,the results revealed that the multi-component ion exchange(mIE)mechanism seems to be the primary recovery mechanism for LSWF in carbonate *** results and conclusions of this study can be used to develop guidelines for designing waterflooding projects in carbonate reservoirs with optimum salinity.
