Aim:To assess the relation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and antioxidants in the internal spermatic vein blood compared to the peripheral venous ***:Sixty-eight infertile oligoasthenozoospemic patients associated with varicocele were *** inguinal varicocelectomy,blood samples of internal sper- matic as well as median cubital veins were *** ROS factors(malondialdehyde[MDA],hydrogen peroxide H_2O_2,nitric oxide[NO])and four antioxidants(superoxide dismutase[SOD],catalase[Cat],glutathione peroxidase[GPx] and vitamin C)were estimated in these blood ***:Mean levels of tested ROS factors were significantly higher in the internal spermatic venous blood compared to those in the peripheral one (mean±SD)(MDA 18.7±1.4 nmol/mL vs.15.4±1.4 nmol/mL,H_2O_2 43.6±8.0 μmol/mL vs.30.8±8.1 μmol/mL,NO 2.3±0.5 nmol/L vs.1.6±0.4 nmol/L,P<0.01).Mean levels of tested antioxidants were significantly lower in the internal spermatic venous blood compared to those in the peripheral one(superoxide dismutase 1690.7±130.0 U/mL vs.1818.5±143.0 U/mL,catalase 38.9±6.1 mol/L vs.47.9±10.2 mol/L,GPx 20.4±8.1 U/mL vs.23.0±8.4 U/mL,vita- min C 0.3±0.1 vs.0.4±0.1 mg/dL,P<0.05).Conclusion:Internal spermatic venous blood of infertile male cases associated with varicocele demonstrated elevated levels of ROS and decreased levels of antioxidants compared to peripheral venous circulation.(Asian J Androl 2006 Jul;8:451-454)

Rose is one of the farming products that used as an accessory plantation, which is also known to contain vitamin C and anthocyanins which can be used as an antioxidant. The purpose of this study is to identify the colour effect of flower through the quality effervescent tablet, to know the interaction between the flower colour and the sugar type through the quality effervescent rose tablet. This study was done with two steps. Step I was divided into 2 levels of examinations using simple random： Rose colouring, M1 （dark red） and M2 （pink）, while step II consisted of three levels of examinations, those were G 1 （sucrose）, G2 （dextrose）, and G3 （sorbitol）. The result showed that the dark red colour has a better extract pigment quality, the level of the light color （L） was 77.3 and the redness level （b＋） was 25.033. The best rose effervescent tablet was produced by the combination of M 1 G3 （dark red： corn sugar/sorbitol）, that has 8.179% of water content; the solute velocity was 0.029 g/sec; the lightness level （L） was 84.133, the redness level （a＋） was 18.3. The product of the rose effervescent drinks has a value of 6.46 pH; viscosities 342.867 cps and total of sugar 52.150%.

The nature of support and type of active metal affect catalytic performance. In this work, the effect of using La203 as promoter and support for Ni/γ-A1203 catalysts in dry reforming of methane was investigated. The reforming reactions were carried out at atmosphenc pressure in the temperature range of 500-2700℃. The activity and stability of the catalyst, carbon formation, and syngas （H2/CO） ratio were determined. Various techniques were applied for characterization of both fresh and used catalysts. Addition of La2O3 to the catalyst matrix improved the dispersion of Ni and adsorption of CO2, thus its activity and stability enhanced.

This paper represents comparative study on two control techniques applied to H-bridges multilevel inverter. The considered techniques are standard PWM and harmonic elimination control. Their performances are compared in terms of THD and commutation’s losses so that the choice of power switches is optimized. Simulation results indicated that the harmonic elimination technique exhibits better results than the standard PWM technique, which is sustained by the reduce of the commutation losses, and a power rise for the switches ensuring the use of GTOs, IGCTs.

The saturation problem is the one of the most common handicaps for applying to real applications, especially the actuator saturation. This paper focuses on the robustness of the sliding mode control （SMC） which incorporates a saturation constraint technique compared to classical linear quadratic regulator （LQR） with saturation. In the first step, the authors present a design methodology of SMC of a class of linear saturated systems. The authors present the structure of the saturation, after that the synthesis of the sliding surface is formulate as a problem of root clustering, which leads to the development of a continuous and non-linear control law that ensures the reaching condition of the sliding mode. The second step is devoted to present briefly the LQR controller technique. Finally, to validate results, the authors demonstrate an example of a quarter of vehicle system.

The following dissertation aims at investigating the multilevel topology basis through the analyses of the harmonic elimination control modeling methodology of the asymmetrical inverter. Thus the contribution of this paper can be summarized mainly by the fact that the pre-calculated PWM control used to control the symmetrical structure, as applied to the asymmetrical structure with a reduced number of cells, provides the same performance level resolution and signal strength to the load terminals, which guarantees a constant voltage frequency report. This observation is similar for the three cells, which allows the use of different drivers such as MOSFET, IGBT and GTO. These results have a good performance from the intrinsic proprieties of each semiconductor for each cell.

Fourth generation wireless communication systems feel the necessity of transparent and seamless user roaming with end-to-end connectivity. These systems also demand higher data rate, higher mobility support and QoS guarantees due to rapid development of wireless and mobile networks. These requirements open potentials for the operators to increase their service portfolio and for the users to experience context-rich and personalized services. Consequently the interoperability between different wireless network platforms emerges as a crucial necessity. Here focus is given to the significance of the network interoperability aspect based on layered approach and its role in the development towards 4G. This paper also gives an overview of the major 4G features and differentiating characteristics from other generations.

Effect of Refining Parameters on Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) Properties from Oil Palm Trunk

The properties of medium density fibreboard (MDF) made from oil palm trunk (OPT) as affected by refining pressure and preheating time were investigated. The OPT chips were refined in the MDF pilot plant by using four refining pressures (2, 4, 6 and 8 bar) and four different preheating time (100, 200, 300 and 400 seconds). The refined fibres were blended with 10% of urea formaldehyde with a board target density of 720 kg/m3. MDF boards were evaluated based on European Standard EN 622-5:2006 for thickness swelling (TS), internal bonding (IB), modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of elasticity (MOE). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the significance of the factors. The results from this study indicated that refining pressure and preheating time are significant factors for all MDF properties. Low refining pressure and preheating time produced higher TS, lower MOR and MOE with poor bonding than those boards prepared from fibres refined at higher refining pressure and longer preheating time. OPT fibre treated with 8 bar produced good swelling resistance but detrimental on mechanical properties of the finish board. 6 bar steam pressure offered the highest value of mechanical properties (MOE, MOR and IB). Boards from intermediate refining condition (6 bar and 300 seconds) were found the better board properties having 14.58%, 0.73 N/mm2, 38 N/mm2 and 3597 N/mm2 for TS, IB, MOR and MOE respectively.

Young Corn Ear Addition Improves Some Nutrients and Lowering Glycemic Index of Chiffon Cake

The effects of partial replacement of wheat flour with young corn ear (YCE) on sensory properties and glycemic index (GI) of chiffon cake were investigated. Dried YCE was processed into powdered form and added in chiffon cake formulations to replace wheat flour partially at concentrations of 0 (control), 10%, 20% and 30%. Protein, ash and dietary fibre contents of chiffon cake added with YCE powder were increased in line with the levels of YCE used. Even though protein content of YCE-based cakes increased in line (13.3% to 15.7%) with the levels of YCE (10% to 30%), but there was no significant difference compared to control. Sensory evaluation results indicate that partial replacement of wheat flour with up to 10% is satisfactory as compared to other levels of wheat flour replacement. Interestingly, addition of YCE at 10% to partially replace wheat flour resulted in reduction of postprandial blood glucose response. The GI value for chiffon cake added with YCE was 49 lower than control cake which recorded GI value at 60. In conclusion, novel food ingredient of YCE can be incorporated in selected bakery products to enhance nutritional composition while at the same time help in reducing the GI value. Further investigation on the addition of YCE into other bakery products in relation to nutrition and glycemic response effects can also be explored.
