Measuring capillary oxygenation and the surrounding ultrastructure can allow one to monitor a microvascular niche and better understand crucial biological ***,capillary oximetry and pericapillary ultrastructure are challenging to measure in *** we demonstrate a novel optical imaging system,dual-band dual-scan inverse spectroscopic optical coherence tomography(D2-ISOCT),that,for the first time,can simultaneously obtain the following metrics in vivo using endogenous contrast:(1)capillary-level oxygen saturation and arteriolar-level blood flow rates,oxygen delivery rates,and oxygen metabolic rates;(2)spatial characteristics of tissue structures at length scales down to 30 nm;and(3)morphological images up to 2mm in *** illustrate the capabilities of D2-ISOCT,we monitored alterations to capillaries and the surrounding pericapillary tissue(tissue between the capillaries)in the healing response of a mouse ear wound *** obtained microvascular and ultrastructural metrics corroborated well with each other,showing the promise of D2-ISOCT for becoming a powerful new non-invasive imaging tool.

In this paper we describe the scanning electron microscopy techniques of electron backscatter diffraction, electron channeling contrast imaging, wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and cathodoluminescence hyperspectral imaging. We present our recent results on the use of these non-destructive techniques to obtain information on the topography, crystal misorientation, defect distributions, composition, doping, and light emission from a range of UV-emitting nitride semiconductor structures. We aim to illustrate the developing capability of each of these techniques for understanding the properties of UV-emitting nitride semiconductors, and the benefits were appropriate, in combining the techniques.

A method to precipitate nanoparticles using a miniemulsion technique is described, in which miniemulsion droplets between 100 and 1000 nm in size serve as nanoreactors enabling both the control of particle formation and particle growth. The application of miniemulsion droplets to synthesise nanoparticles comprises three advantages： first, the size of the precipitated particles is limited by the reactant concentration within the emulsion droplet; second, particle agglomeration is prevented as nanoparticle collision outside the nanoreactor is avoided; and third, easy technical scale up can be realized by increasing emulsion volume and thus the number of nanoreactors, while local conditions within the reactors are not changed, The miniemulsion technique is an easy scalable process which allows defined synthesis of particles by precipitation reactions. The miniemulsion technique involves first the preparation of a stable water-in- oil miniemulsion by high pressure homogenisation. Whereas a water soluble reactant is provided within the aqueous droplets, another oilas well as water-soluble reactant can be introduced to the emulsion after homogenisation. The precipitation reaction is induced by the diffusion of the second reactant into the emulsion droplet. Together with this contribution, a method is described and discussed which uses a high pressure homogenisation process to produce stable water-in-oil miniemulsions serving as a reaction medium to precipitate metal oxides.

As ultrafast laser technology advances towards ever higher peak and average powers,generating sub-50 fs pulses from laser architectures that exhibit best power-scaling capabilities remains a major ***,we present a very compact and highly robust method to compress 1.24 ps pulses to 39fs by means of only a single spectral broadening stage which neither requires vacuum parts nor custom-made *** approach is based on the hybridization of the multiplate continuum *** multipass cell spectral broadening *** combination leads to significantly higher spectral broadening factors in bulk material than what has been reported from either method ***,our approach efficiently suppresses adverse features of single-pass bulk spectral *** use a burst-mode Yb:YAG laser emitting pulses with 80 MW peak power that are enhanced to more than 1 GW after *** only 0.19%rms pulse-to-pulse energy fluctuations,the technique exhibits excellent ***,we have measured state-of-the-art spectral-spatial homogeneity and good beam quality of M^(2)=1.2 up to a spectral broadening factor of *** to the method's simplicity,compactness,and scalability,it is highly attractive for turning a picosecond laser into an ultrafast light source that generates pulses of only a few tens of femtoseconds duration.
