Background and Aims: Psychometric hepatic encephalop-athy score(PHES)is used widely for diagnosis of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE).This prospective study aimed to determine the utility of the inhibitory control test(ICT)for the diagnosis of ***,the efficacy of rifaximin and lactulose for reversal of MHE was ***:A total of 180 eligible cirrhotic patients underwent testing for *** PHES was ≤ ?5 and ICT lures were ≥ 14,MHE was *** 108 patients with MHE were randomized to three groups for treatment with either lactulose,rifaximin,or *** outcomes were measured at the end of 3 ***: The 108 patients with MHE diagnosed by PHES and/or ICT accounted for 60%.The diagnosis of MHE was made by both ICT and PHES positivity in 56 patients,by abnormal ICT and normal PHES in 37 patients,and by abnor-mal PHES and normal ICT in 15 *** diagnosis of MHE,ICT had sensitivity of 78.87%,specificity of 66.06%with 60.22%positive predictive value and 82.76%negative predictive *** area under the curve value of 0.724(95%CI: 0.653–0.788)was obtained for diagnosis of *** of MHE was seen in 71.42%,70.27%and 11.11%of patients in the rifaximin,lactulose and placebo arms(p < 0.001).Rifaximin showed better tolerability compared to ***: For the diagnosis of MHE,ICT is a simple tool but has lower sensitivity and better specificity than *** is as efficacious as lactulose in the treat-ment of MHE and better tolerated.

In the present paper, an analytical model of a flexible beam fixed at an end with embedded shear sensors and actuators is developed. The smart cantilever beam model is evolved using a piezoelectric sandwich beam element, which accommodates sensor and actuator embedded at distinct locations and a regular sandwiched beam element, having rigid foam at the core. A FE model of a piezoelectric sandwich beam is evolved using laminated beam theory in MATLAB?. Each layer behaves as a Timoshenko beam and the cross-section of the beam remains plane and rotates about the neutral axis of the beam, but it does not remain normal to the deformed longitudinal axis. keeping the sensor and actuator location fixed in a MIMO system, state space models of the smart cantilever beam is obtained. The proper selection of control strategy is very crucial in order to obtain the better control. In this paper a DSM controller designed to control the first three modes of vibration of the smart cantilever beam and their performances are represented on the basis of control signal input, sensor output and sliding functions. It is found that DSM controller provides superior control than other conventional controllers and also MROF DSM controller is much better than SISO DSM controller.

Crystallization of Curcumin and Cinnamic Acid from Aqueous Solutions of Hydrotropes

Batch crystallization studies of curcumin from hydrotropic solutions of sodium cumenesulphonate (NaCS) and of cinnamic acid from a photosensitive hydrotropic medium of sodium cinnamate (Na-CIN) were carried out, in an agitated reactor for the effect of alternate heating and cooling cycles on crystal morphology. The crystal characterization by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and crystal size distribution (CSD) showed formation of spheroidal curcumin crystals while cinnamic acid formed porous aggregates when subjected to thermal cycles. The UV irradiation of cinnamic acid however showed no formation of the aggregates. The type of hydrotrope used and the initial crystal morphologies of curcumin and cinnamic acid are shown to be important factors to result in a different behaviour of the crystal morphology upon thermal cycles. The CSD data were effectively used for estimation of nucleation and growth rate parameters.

Despite a wealth of literature on the different facets of the EIA,and copious theoretical knowledge and practical experience,the general agreement is eluding definitions of EIA effectiveness,quality,and good *** are apprehensions about EIA meeting its basic objectives while project proponents continue to treat EIA as an impediment to *** tend to adopt a“practical”approach,sacrificing pillars of EIA and overlooking the prime objective of environmental *** on an extensive literature study and the author’s long EIA-related experience,some key workable practices for the EIA process are *** scoping using different sets of lenses,spotlighting significant impacts to determine the breadth and depth of EIA reports for focussed EIAs,robust EIA review and decision-making,commitment from the regulators for environmental protection,and use of strategic planning,strategic environmental assessment,and tiering practices are expected to address scholars’apprehensions and project proponents’concerns.

Drug resistance remains to be a serious problem with type Ⅰ human immunodeficiency virus(HIV-1) nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors(NNRTIs). A series of novel boronic acid-containing diarylpyrimidine(DAPY) derivatives were designed via bioisosterism and scaffold-hopping strategies,taking advantage of the ability of a boronic acid group to form multiple hydrogen bonds. The target compounds were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-HIV activities and cytotoxicity in MT-4 *** 10 j yielded the most potent activity and turned out to be a single-digit nanomolar inhibitor towards the HIV-1 ⅢB [wild-type(WT) strain], L100 I and k103 N strains, with 50% effective concentration(EC_(50)) values of 7.19–9.85 nmol/L. Moreover, 10 j inhibited the double-mutant strain RES056 with an EC_(50) value of 77.9 nmol/L, which was 3.3-more potent than that of EFV(EC_(50)= 260 nmol/L) and comparable to that of ETR(EC_(50)= 32.2 nmol/L). 10j acted like classical NNRTIs with high affinity for WT HIV-1 reverse transcriptase(RT) with 50% inhibition concentration(IC_(50)) value of 0.1837 μmol/L. Furthermore,molecular dynamics simulation indicated that 10 j was proposed as a promising molecule for fighting against HIV-1 infection through inhibiting RT activity. Overall, the results demonstrated that 10 j could serve as a lead molecule for further modification to address virus-drug resistance.

Asymmetric reductive amination of carbonyl compounds was carried out using a novel class of aliphatic quarternary ammonium based chiral ionic liquid. S-(+)-2,3-dihydroxy-N,N,N-tributylpropanaminum bromide chiral ionic liquid has been synthesized, characterized and used for asymmetric reductive amination of carbonyl compounds in the presence of sodium borohydride. These preliminary results are encouraging and advocate dual role of novel ionic liquid as a medium and reducing agent for proficient conversion of ketones to amines, however, reductive amination reaction needs to be established for other substituents.

AIM:Ethylacetate extract of Alpinia purpurata was evaluated for its potential in vitro antioxidant and antican-cer ***:The antioxidant activity was evaluated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scav-enging method,hydroxyl radical activity,superoxide radical scavenging activity,nitric oxide radical scavenging activity,hy-drogen peroxide radical scavenging activity and reducing power *** viability of OAW42 cells was evaluated by MTT ***:*** exhibited potential antioxidant activity with a concentration-dependent *** extract showed potential anticancer activity at the 48th hour with IC50 of 130.20 μg·mL·1 and exhibited a dose-dependent decrease in cell count for all the concentrations ***:The results suggested that long term consumption of *** exhibited antioxidant and anticancer activity and could be further exploited for their anticancer properties.

BACkGROUND Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms(IPMNs)are non-invasive pancreatic precursor lesions that can potentially develop into invasive pancreatic ductal ***,the International Consensus Guidelines(ICG)for IPMNs provides the basis for evaluating suspected IPMNs on computed tomography(CT)*** using the ICG,it remains challenging to accurately predict whether IPMNs harbor high grade or invasive disease which would warrant surgical resection.A supplementary quantitative radiological tool,radiomics,may improve diagnostic accuracy of radiological evaluation of *** hypothesized that using CT whole lesion radiomics features in conjunction with the ICG could improve the diagnostic accuracy of predicting IPMN *** To evaluate whole lesion CT radiomic analysis of IPMNs for predicting malignant histology compared to International Consensus *** Fifty-one subjects who had pancreatic surgical resection at our institution with histology demonstrating IPMN and available preoperative CT imaging were included in this retrospective *** lesion semi-automated segmentation was performed on each preoperative CT using Healthmyne software(Healthmyne,Madison,WI).Thirty-nine relevant radiomic features were extracted from each lesion on each available contrast *** analysis of the 39 radiomics features was performed for each contrast phase and values were compared between malignant and benign IPMN groups using logistic *** quantitative and qualitative CT measurements were also compared between groups,viaχ2(categorical)and Mann Whitney U(continuous)*** Twenty-nine subjects(15 males,age 71±9 years)with high grade or invasive tumor histology comprised the"malignant"cohort,while 22 subjects(11 males,age 70±7 years)with low grade tumor histology were included in the"benign"*** analysis showed 18/39 precontrast,19/39 arterial phase,and 21/39 venous phase features
