AIM: To evaluate the factors involved in the impairment of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients with celiac ***: A multicenter, cross-sectional prospective study was performed in patients with celiac disease who completed two HRQOL questionnaires: the gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) and the EuroQol-5D (EQ).RESULTS: Three hundred and forty patients (163 controlled with a gluten-free diet, and 177 newly diagnosed with a normal diet) were included. The GIQLI score was significantly better in patients on a gluten-free diet (GfD) than in non-treated patients on their usual diet, both in terms of the overall score (3.3 vs 2.7, respectively; P ference value of the EQ as the visual analogue scale were significantly better in treated than in non-treated patients (0.93 vs 0.72 P ficantly associated with a worse HRQOL score were female gender, failure to adhere to a GfD, and symptomatic ***: In untreated celiac disease, the most important factors that influence patient perception of health are the presence of symptoms and a normal diet. HRQOL improves to levels similar to those described in the general population in celiac disease patients well controlled with a GfD.

The oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） is essential in research pertaining to life science and energy. In applications, platinum-based catalysts give ideal reactivity, but, in practice, are often subject to high costs and poor stability. Some costefficient transition metal oxides have exhibited excellent ORR reactivity, but the stability and durability of such alternative catalyst materials pose serious challenges. Here, we present a facile method to fabricate uniform CoxOy nanoparticles and embed them into N-doped carbon, which results in a composite of extraordinary stability and durability, while maintaining its high reactivity. The half-wave potential shows a negative shift of only 21 mV after 10,000 cycles, only one third of that observed for Pt/C （63 mV）. furthermore, after 100,000 s testing at a constant potential, the current decreases by only 17%, significantly less than for Pt/C （35%）. The exceptional stability and durability results from the system architecture, which comprises a thin carbon shell that prevents agglomeration of the CoxOy nanoparticles and their detaching from the substrate.

Bound states in the continuum （BICs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BIC is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BICs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BIC and friedrich-Wintgen BIC are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BICs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BIC,the merged BIC is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** essence of this extraordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BICs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

Aims Different plant functional groups display diverging responses to the same environmental ***,we assess the effects of environmental and spatial predictors on species turnover of three functional groups of Brazilian savannas(Cerrado)plants—trees,palms and lianas—across the transition zone between the Cerrado and Amazon biomes in central *** We used edaphic,climatic and plant composition data from nine one-hectare plots to assess the effects of the environment and space on species turnover using a Redundancy Analysis and Generalized Dissimilarity Modeling(GDM),associated with variance *** findings We recorded 167 tree species,5 palms and 4 liana *** variation was most important in explaining species turnover,relative to geographic distance,but the best predictors differed between functional groups:geographic distance and silt for lianas;silt for palms;geographic distance,temperature and elevation for *** distances alone exerted little influence over species turnover for the three functional *** pure environmental variation explained most of the liana and palm turnover,while tree turnover was largely explained by the shared spatial and environmental *** effects of geographic distance upon species turnover leveled off at about 300 km for trees,and 200 km for lianas,whereas they were unimportant for palm species *** results indicate that environmental factors that determine floristic composition and species turnover differ substantially between plant functional groups in ***,we recommend that studies that aim to investigate the role of environmental conditions in determining plant species turnover should examine plant functional groups separately.

Sharing sensitive data is a specific challenge for research infrastructures in the field of life *** that reason a toolbox has been developed,providing resources for researchers who wish to share and use sensitive data,to support the workflows for handling these kinds of digital *** and community approved annotations are required to be compliant with fAIR principles(findability,Accessibility,Interoperability,Reusability).The toolbox makes use of a tagging(categorisation)system,allowing consistent labelling and categorisation of digital objects,in terms relevant to data sharing tasks and activities.A pilot study was performed within the Horizon 2020 project EOSC-Life,in which 2 experts from 6 life sciences research infrastructures were recruited to independently assign tags to the same set of 10 to 25 resources related to sensitive data management and data sharing(in total 110).Summary statistics of agreement and observer variation per research infrastructure are *** pilot study has shown that experts were able to attribute tags but in most cases with a considerable observer variation between *** the context of CWfR(Canonical Workflow frameworks for Research),this indicates the necessity for careful definition,evaluation and validation of parameters and processes related to workflow *** results from this pilot study were used to tackle this issue by revising the categorisation system and providing an updated version.

Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.
