Properties of Bark Particleboard Bonded with Demethylated Lignin Adhesives Derived from Leucaena leucocephala Bark

Lignin extraction from bark can maximize the utilization of biomass waste,offer cost-effectiveness,and promote environmental friendliness when employed as an adhesive material in bark particleboard *** of fine(0.2 to 1.0 mm),medium(1.0 to 2.5 mm),and coarse(2.5 to 12.0 mm)sizes,derived from the bark of Leucaena leucocephala,were hot-pressed using a heating plate at 175℃for 7 min to create single-layer particleboards measuring 320 mm×320 mm×10 mm,targeting a density of 700 kg/m^(3).Subsequently,the samples were trimmed and conditioned at 20℃and 65%relative *** this study,we compared bark particleboard bonded with urea formaldehyde(UF)adhesive to fine-sized particleboard bonded with demethylated lignin *** results indicated that bark particleboards utilizing demethylated lignin and UF adhesives exhibited similar *** particleboard showed differences in modulus of elasticity(MOE)and modulus of rupture(MOR),while medium-sized particles exhibited significant variations in moisture content(MC)and water absorption(WA).Furthermore,the thickness swelling of coarse and medium-sized particles under wet and oven-dried conditions exhibited notable ***,the demethylated lignin adhesive extracted from *** bark demonstrated similar quality to UF adhesive,with particle size correlating inversely to the strength of the bark particleboard.

In tropical regions,heavy rainfall induces erosion and shallow landslides on road ***-based stabilization methods,common in these regions,contribute to climate change due to their high carbon *** study explored the potential application of coir fiber-reinforced laterite soil-bottom ash mixtures as embankment materials in the *** objective is to enhance engineered embankment slopes'erosion resistance and stability while offering reuse options for industrial *** study examined various mix designs for unconfined compressive strength(UCS)and permeability,utilizing 30%bottom ash(BA)and 1%coir fiber(CF)with varying sizes ranging from 10 to 40 mm,6%lime,and laterite soil(LS),followed by microstructural *** results demonstrate that the compressive strength increases as the CF length increases to 25 *** contrast,permeability increases continuously with increasing CF ***-treated mixtures exhibit superior short-and long-term strength and reduce permeability owing to the formation of cementitious materials,as confirmed by microstructural analyses.A lab-scale slope box was constructed to evaluate the surface erosion of the stabilized laterite soil *** on the rainfall simulation results,the LS-BA-CF mixtures show better resistance to erosion and deformation compared to untreated LS,especially when lime is added to the top *** study provides insights into a sustainable and cost-effective approach for slope stabilization using BA and CF,offering a promising solution for tropical regions susceptible to surface erosion and landslides.

Correlation of Hamstring Tendon Size in Pre-Operative MRI Measurement with Intra-Operative Graft Size in Primary Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction

Background: The size of Hamstring autograft of less than 8.0 mm in ACL re-construction is one of the key factors that may contribute to the failure of the graft. In this study, we are going to assess the correlation of pre-operative MRI measurement of Hamstring tendons with the intra-operative ACL graft. Thus, it may help surgeons to anticipate the needs for graft augmentation should the final graft size be smaller than expected. Methods: We retrospectively re-viewed 41 cases of ACL reconstructions in which MRI were done pre-operatively, in Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah (HPSF), Muar between January 2019 until December 2022. MRI measurements of Hamstring tendon (semitendinosus: ST, and gracilis) were done by a radiologist, and the in-tra-operative notes were reviewed for the final graft size. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the relationship between graft size and tendon cross-sectional area. The intraclass correlation (ICC) by using two-way mixed model with type consistency, the reliability based on average measure was 0.41 (95% CI: ?0.10, 0.69). A p-value < 0.05 was considered sig-nificant. Results: Of 105 patients with primary ACL reconstruction done be-tween January 2019 to December 2022, only 41 patients were included in this study. There was fair correlation (p = 0.048) between pre-operative MRI measurement and the graft diameter intra-operatively. The mean of 17.0 mm of combined diameter of ST and gracilis tendon in MRI may results in graft diameter of 8.3 mm. There was also positive correlation between patients’ height and the intra-operative graft size. Conclusion: These results showed good correlation between pre-operative MRI measurement of Hamstring ten-don size with the intra-operative graft size, hence it is a reliable tool to predict the Hamstring autograft size in ACL reconstruction.

Preliminary Study of Chemical Elements Distribution in Petroleum Source Rocks Donga and Yogou Formations of the Termit Sedimentary Basin (Est-Niger)

XRF and EDX analyses were carried out on 18 batches of representative raw samples to determine the distribution of major chemical elements in the petroleum source rocks of Donga and Yogou formations of Termit sedimentary basin. The chemical composition of these formations is dominated by silicon (Si), aluminum (Al) and iron (Fe). This is consistent with the oxide composition, which is also dominated by silicon oxide (SiO2), aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and iron monoxide (FeO). No less important chemical elements are calcium (Ca), potassium (K), sulfur (S), titanium (Ti), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn) and barium (Ba), as well as some of their oxides. All these major chemical elements are carried by silicate detrital minerals associated with pyrite and goethite and/or clay minerals such as kaolinite and interstratified illite, smectite and chlorite. This trend is illustrated by the values of the Si/Al and SiO2/Al2O3 ratios.

Objective:To determine the effects of textile dyeing industrial wastewater on the hematological parameters and reproductive health including histoarchitecture of male gonad(testes)of ***:Twenty-four Swiss albino mice at 4-weeks old were divided into four groups(n=6 per group).Mice of group 1 supplied with normal drinking water were served as the control *** of group 2,3 and 4 were supplied normal drinking water mixed with textile dyeing wastewater at 5%,10% and 20% concentration,*** completing 24 weeks of treatment,different hematological profile,weight of testes,gonadosomatic index(GSI),sperm concentration and morphology were ***,histopathological changes in testes were ***:Hematocrit value and hemoglobin concentrations were decreased in all groups of wastewater-treated mice compared to the control ***,weight of testes,GSI and sperm concentration were decreased significantly in wastewater-treated mice in comparison to the control *** percentage of morphologically healthy epididymal sperm was significantly reduced in wastewater-treated *** examination revealed degenerative changes in seminiferous tubules,a smaller number of spermatogenic cells,elongation of seminiferous tubules and degenerative changes of seminiferous tubules in wastewater-treated ***:Textile dyeing wastewater has harmful effects on hematological profile and reproductive health of male mice.

Biogenic synthesis of silver nanoparticles(b-AgNPs)utilising plant extract has gained the interest of researchers due to the environmentally friendly and cost-effective ***,the extent of its application in the biomedical field remains *** study evaluates the antibacterial,cytocompatibility,and wound healing activities of synthesised AgNPs using Persicaria odorata leaves extract(PO-AgNPs).The formation of PO-AgNPs was observed by visual colour changes and verified by ultraviolet-visible(UV–vis)spectrophotometer,which revealed a surface plasmon resonance(SPR)at around 440 nm,and further confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD).Characterisation using Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy showed biomolecules from the leaves extract presented together on *** emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM)and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HR-TEM)images revealed PO-AgNPs nanospheres with diameters of 11±3 *** diffusion test(DDT)and minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)analysis resulted in a dose-dependent inhibition of PO-AgNPs against tested Staphylococcus epidermidis and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).These results were further corroborated by time-kill kinetic assay which revealed that PO-AgNPs were bactericidal against both strains 24 h *** and in vitro wound healing evaluation against normal human fibroblast cells,HSF 1184 inferred that PO-AgNPs are non-toxic to normal cells and able to enhance cell migration as compared to the non-treated ***,PO-AgNPs are biocompatible and possess antibacterial and wound healing capabilities that are useful in biomedical applications.

The capability of synthesized zeolite A(SZ)to immobilize Ag ions(Ag-SZ)and Ag nanoparticles(AgNp-SZ)were comparatively studied.A novel approach of in situ biosynthesized AgNP-incorporated synthesized zeolite A(AgNp-SZ)was synthesized at an optimum volume of 0.4mL of the Orthosiphon aristatus(***)leaves plant extract(5%)using an in situ *** comparison,Ag-Sz was produced by loading the synthesized zeolite with Ag *** synthesized materials were characterized for their morphologies and *** characterization analysesvalidate thathe biosynthesized AgNP(<100 nm)using *** leaves extract was incorporated into the zeolite *** antibacterial testing confirmed that these materials have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coliATCC11229 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC ***/MBC analysis demonstrated that in 0.9%saline solution,AgNP-SZ had higher antibacterial activity than *** in vitro cell viability and migration assays were further examined towards human skin fibroblast cells HSF *** show that the materials are not cytotoxicto HSF1184,and the biosynthesized AgNP-SZ promotes cell migration and proliferation higher than *** research proved that the biocompatible antibacterial wound healing agent of AgNP-SZ can be synthesized using an in situ approach where the reduction process of Ag ions in the zeolite Acan be performed using plant extract.

Millimeter-Wave(mmWave)Massive MIMO is one of the most effective technology for the fifth-generation(5G)wireless *** improves both the spectral and energy efficiency by utilizing the 30–300 GHz millimeter-wave bandwidth and a large number of antennas at the base ***,increasing the number of antennas requires a large number of radio frequency(RF)chains which results in high power *** order to reduce the RF chain’s energy,cost and provide desirable quality-ofservice(QoS)to the subscribers,this paper proposes an energy-efficient hybrid precoding algorithm formm Wave massive MIMO networks based on the idea of RF chains *** sparse digital precoding problem is generated by utilizing the analog precoding ***,it is jointly solved through iterative fractional programming and successive convex optimization(SCA)*** results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes and effectively improves the system performance under different operating conditions.

The optoelectronic properties of n-TiO2NW/p-Si heterojunction fabricated by depositing TiO2 nanowires on a p-Si substrate are studied. Under excitation at a wavelength of 370 nm, the TiO2 nanowires produce a light emission at 435 nm due to the emission of free excitons. The I-V characteristics are measured to investigate the heterojunction effects under the dark environment and ultraviolet （UV） illumination, n-TiOzNW/p-Si has a p-n junction formed in the n-TiOz/p-Si beterojunction. TiO2NW/Si photodiode produces a pbotocurrent larger than dark current under UV illumination. It is observed that UV photons are absorbed in TiO2 and the heterojunction shows a 0.034-A/W responsivity at 4-V reverse bias.
