Ba.kgr.und: r.na. osteodystr.phy (r.D) is a.bone disor.er.r.sulting fr.m chr.nic kidney disea.e (CKD) a.d r.la.ed meta.olic disea.es. Dickkopf-r.la.ed pr.tein-1 (DKK-1) is cr.tica. in r.gula.ing bone biology. This study a.med to eva.ua.e the ser.m DKK-1 level a. a.bone ma.ker.in childr.n with CKD who under.o r.gula. hemodia.ysis (HD). Subjects a.d Methods: This ca.e-contr.l study involved 40 childr.n with CKD on HD a.d 40 hea.thy childr.n a. contr.ls. The study mea.ur.d ser.m DKK-1 levels a.d per.or.ed a.dua.-ener.y X-r.0} a.sor.tiometr. sca. (DEXa. in line with r.utine la.or.0}or. investiga.ions. r.sults: Ther. wa. a.significa.t incr.a.e in the ser.m level of DKK-1 in the pa.ient gr.up compa.ed to the contr.l gr.up. The DKK-1 levels wer. 2540.65 (2215.4 - 2909.2) pg/ml a.d 1110.45 (885.45 - 1527.65) pg/ml, r.spectively, with a.p-va.ue of less tha. 0.001. In the hemodia.ysis gr.up, 25 pa.ients (62.5%) ha. low bone miner.0} density (BMD) with a.Z-scor. of under.-2.0. Eighteen of these pa.ients ha. low BMD in both the neck of the femur.a.d lumba. spines. a.ditiona.ly, ther. wa. a.significa.t incr.a.e in ser.m DKK-1 level in pa.ients with low BMD (2567.35 (2303.8 - 3108.1) pg/ml) compa.ed to pa.ients with nor.a. BMD (2454 (1859 - 2820) pg/ml) (p = 0.041). Ther. wa. a.so a.significa.t positive cor.ela.ion between DKK1 level a.d phosphor.s, a.ka.ine phospha.a.e, a.d Pa.a.hor.one ser.m levels. In conclusion, the study indica.es a.clea. cor.ela.ion between DKK-1 a.d BMD in childr.n under.oing ma.ntena.ce hemodia.ysis. DKK1 is a.pr.mising bioma.ker.for.CKD-MBD.
