Screening a.d Phylogenetic a.a.ysis of Deep-Sea.Ba.teria.Ca.a.le of Meta.olizing Lignin-Derived a.oma.ic Compounds

Lignin is one of the most a.unda.t bioma.ses in na.ure. It is composed of a.oma.ic moieties a.d ha. grea. potentia. for use in the production of chemica. a.terna.ives to petroleum products. Beca.se of increa.ing interest in bioca.a.ysis, the potentia. for industria. a.plica.ion of microbia. meta.olism of lignin-derived compounds ha. ga.ned considera.le recent a.tention. Functiona. screenings of cultura.le ba.teria.isola.ed from sediments a.d sunken wood collected from the deep sea.revea.ed the existence of a.number of previously unidentified ba.teria.ca.a.le of meta.olizing lignin-rela.ed a.oma.ic compounds. Of the 510 isola.es obta.ned in the present study, 208 completely or pa.tia.ly meta.olized these compounds. The 208 isola.es were cla.sified into diverse phyla. including Firmicutes, a.tinoba.teria. Ba.teroidetes, a.d Proteoba.teria. a.ong the 208 isola.es, 61 unique 16S rRNa.gene sequences were detected including previously unidentified ma.ine linea.e isola.es. The meta.olites of the isola.es were a.a.ysed using liquid chroma.ogra.hy/ma.s spectrometry (LC/MS) or ga. chroma.ogra.hy/ma.s spectrometry (GC/MS). Most of the representa.ive 61 isola.es non-oxida.ively deca.boxyla.ed the substra.es to produce the corresponding a.oma.ic vinyl monomers, which a.e used a. feed stocks for bio-ba.ed pla.tics production. Oxida.ive meta.olism of the lignin-rela.ed compounds for a.simila.ion wa. frequently observed. Our study showed tha. the deep-sea.environment conta.ns a. a.unda.ce of microorga.isms ca.a.le of both non-oxida.ive a.d oxida.ive bioconversion of lignin-derived a.oma.ic compounds. The a.ility for bio-conversion of a.oma.ic compounds found in this study will fa.ilita.e the development of future biotechnologica. a.plica.ions.

In order to prepa.e a.hypereutectic a.-Si a.loy with low coefficients of therma. expa.sion (CTE), a.-50%Si a.loy wa. produced by powder meta.lurgy (P/M) a.d ingot meta.lurgy (I/M). P/M specimen wa. prepa.ed by mecha.ica. a.loying (Ma. a.d pulsed electric-current sintering (PECS). The microstructures of specimens were cha.a.terized by optica. microscopy a.d sca.ning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ra. spectroscopy (EDS). Vickers microha.dness a.d CTE mea.urements were performed. The gra.ns in the P/M specimen were refined with increa.ing Ma.time. Prima.y Si a.d eutectic Si in the I/M specimen were rema.ka.ly refined by a.ding minute a.ounts of Sr. The CTE of P/M a.d I/M specimens were estima.ed a. ***"6 a.d 10.7xlO"6, respectively. These va.ues were a. sa.e a. a.CTE of a.a.s cera.ics.

Influence of Fine Sediment on the Fluidity of Debris Flows

Debris flows include a.grea. diversity of gra.n sizes with inherent fea.ures such a. inverse gra.ing, pa.ticle size segrega.ion, a.d liquefa.tion of fine sediment. The liquefa.tion of fine sediment a.fects the fluidity of debris flows, a.though the beha.ior a.d influence of fine sediment in debris flows ha.e not been exa.ined sufficiently. This study used flume tests to detect the effect of fine sediment on the fluidity of la.ora.ory debris flows consisting of pa.ticles with va.ious dia.eters. From the experiments, the grea.est sediment concentra.ion a.d flow depth were observed in the debris flows mixed with fine sediment indica.ing increa.ed flow resista.ce. The experimenta. friction coefficient wa. then compa.ed with the theoretica. friction coefficient derived by substituting the experimenta. va.ues into the constitutive equa.ions for debris flow. The theoretica. friction coefficient wa. obta.ned from two models with different fine-sediment trea.ments： a.suming tha. a.l of the fine sediments were solid pa.ticles or tha. the pa.ticles consisted of a.fluid pha.e involving pore wa.er liquefa.tion. From the compa.ison of the friction coefficients, a.fully liquefa.tion sta.e wa. detected for the fine pa.ticle mixture. When the mixing ra.io a.d pa.ticle size of the fine sediment were different, some other ea.es were considered to be in a.pa.tia.ly liquefied tra.sition sta.e. These results imply tha. the liquefa.tion of fine sediment in debris flows wa. induced not only by the geometric conditions such a. pa.ticle sizes, but a.so by the flow conditions.

The process consisted of the a.cumula.ive roll-bonding (a.E) for ma.ing a.la.ina.ed Fe/a. sheet a.d the subsequent hea. trea.ment promoting a.solid pha.e rea.tion in the la.ina.ed Fe/a. sheet. The microstructures produced a. ea.h processing sta.e were cha.a.terized by optica. microscopy a.d sca.ning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ra. spectroscopy (EDS). Vickers microha.dness testing wa. used for ha.dness determina.ion. a.homogeneous intermeta.lic compound of Fe3a. or Fea. could be obta.ned a.ter the subsequent hea. trea.ment for 1.8 ks a. 973 K a.d for 10.8 ks a. 1123 or 1173 K.

The Process of Support by Nursing Professiona.s for Fa.ilies Ha.ing a.Member with Borderline Persona.ity Disorder

The purpose of this study wa. to explore the process of fa.ily support provided by nurses to fa.ilies with a.borderline persona.ity disorder (BPD) pa.ient. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 16 nurses who ha. provided ca.e to BPD pa.ients. Da.a.obta.ned from the interviews were qua.ita.ively a.a.yzed using a.modified grounded theory a.proa.h. a. a. overa.l core ca.egory of fa.ily support processes pra.ticed by nurses for fa.ilies with BPD pa.ients, fa.ily support pra.ticed without a.a.eness tha. the nurses were supporting fa.ilies wa. extra.ted. Through this process, nurses held perceptions tha. were premises for fa.ily support, which were formed through their individua. nursing experiences a.d perspectives. Nurses a.so ha. diverse perceptions concerning the ima.e of fa.ilies. Through the integra.ion of perceptions tha. were premises for fa.ily support a.d perceptions of a. ima.e of the fa.ily, nurses underwent a.process of “determina.ion a.d a.biva.ence a.out the need for fa.ily support.” Then, nurses provided “fa.ily support pra.tice” when they a.knowledged the need for fa.ily support. During the “fa.ily support pra.tice,” nurses ha. difficulties in providing fa.ily support. When fa.ily support wa. not successfully provided, nurses provided “fa.ily support pra.tice with seeking more effective wa.s through tria. a.d error.” For ca.es in which nurses did not a.knowledge the need for intervention, they intentiona.ly chose “not to provide fa.ily support.” Furthermore, during the “fa.ily support pra.tice,” nurses ha. contra.ictory perspectives of fa.ily support. Such fa.ily support processes ultima.ely led to a. a.a.eness of the sa.e fa.ily support required for the future.
