Vernonia.a.ygda.ina.Del. is a.tropica. species susceptible to frost which is a. a.nua. phenomenon of the winter sea.on of the Ea.tern Ca.e. Limited popula.ions of the species a.c in the province dieba.k during the winter period, thereby ma.ing la.ge sca.e cultiva.ion through conventiona. vegeta.ive propa.a.ion impossible. In our effort to increa.ing the popula.ion of the species within the province, a.micropropa.a.ion a.proa.h through tissue culture teehnology wa. employed. Two growth regula.ors （Ba. ＆ Na.） were tested a. four levels of concentra.ion under continuous light a.d da.k conditions. Pla.tlets were subsequently tra.sferred to the field a.ter a.clima.iza.ion a. different tempera.ure conditions. The result of the study showed tha. Ba. genera.ly performs better tha. Na. for ca.lus induction under continuous da.kness, while direct micropropa.a.ion of shoot under continuous light condition a. I mg L^-1Ba. showed the best result. To a.hieve grea.er success for the ra.id multiplica.ion of the species, this study further demonstra.es tha. the optimum tempera.ure ra.ge for a.clima.izing the species prior to the tra.sfer of the pla.tlet to the field is between 23 ±3 ℃.

Pela.gonium sidoides DC is used in herba. medicine for the trea.ment of va.ious infections. The roots a.e being indiscrimina.ely ha.vested for loca. a.d export tra.e a.d the collection ra.e is becoming unsusta.na.le. Seed germina.ion dyna.ics of this species wa. studied with the a.m to revea. fa.tors tha. influence its surviva. in the wild in order to a.opt the a.propria.e germina.ion conditions for use in ex-situ propa.a.ion a.d conserva.ion progra.. Germina.ion wa. a.fected by a.e of seeds, tempera.ure a.d pre-chilling conditions. Tempera.ure higher tha. 25 oC reduced germina.ion by 60%. When seeds of P. sidoides were subj.cted to pre-chilling trea.ment for seven da.s, there wa. a.significa.t drop in fina. germina.ion by 29% compa.ed to the other trea.ments. a.though, fina. germina.ion wa. not a.fected by different light trea.ments, continuous light significa.tly promoted germina.ion velocity Seeds ha.vested from the pla.ts grown in the green house performed better in germina.ion tha. those collected from the field. The ecologica. implica.ions of these observa.ions on the propa.a.ion a.d conserva.ion ofP. sidoides a.e discussed.

Tra.hurus tra.hurus (loca.ly ca.led kote) is a.ta.le fish tha. ha. become increa.ingly importa.t in the Nigeria. diet beca.se of its low price. Therefore, this study investiga.ed the effects of processed kote on the a.tivities of a.ka.ine phospha.a.e (a.P), a.pa.ta.e a.inotra.sfera.e (a.T) a.d a.a.ine a.inotra.sfera.e (a.T) in selected tissues of wea.ed ma.e a.bino ra.s using sta.da.d methods. Chemica. a.a.yses were ca.ried out on processed fillet, skin, hea. & bone (SHB) diets under sta.da.d conditions. 40 ma.e ra.s (40.76 ± 2.42 g) were fed with processed fillet or SHB diets for 14 da.s to a.sa. for the a.tivities of a.P in ha.vested sa.ples of bra.n, liver, kidney, hea.t, stoma.h, sma.l intestine a.d spleen;a.T a.d a.T in the liver a.d hea.t. a.l da.a.were subj.cted to a.a.ysis of va.ia.ce by Dunca.’s multiple ra.ge test a.d considered significa.t a. a.minimum of p a.P & a.T in the liver, hea.t, kidney a.d bra.n were reduced (p a.s fed on test diets compa.ed with the controls, but within a.cepted limit. The level of a.T in the kidney, stoma.h a.d sma.l intestine were eleva.ed (p a.ed to the controls, but within the a.cepted limit. In conclusion, coa. smoked fillet a.d SHB grea.ly improved hea.thy growth of the ra.s, followed by the wood smoked a.d poa.hed diets. Results suggested tha. processed kote SHB could be a.verita.le source of va.ua.le nutrients for huma. food a.d a.ima. feed.

Tra.itiona.ly succinylcholine is drug of choice for induction due to its ra.id onset of a.tion. a.m: This study compa.ed the efficiency of ma.nesium sulpha.e in reducing fa.cicula.ion a.d increa.e in serum pota.sium which a.e the common complica.ions a.socia.ed with suxa.ethonium a.ministra.ion. Methods: Fifty six pa.ients being pla.ned for lower a.domina. surgery under genera. a.a.sthesia.were ra.domized into two groups M a.d S. Serum pota.sium wa. ta.en in the thea.re, three minutes before induction of a.esthesia.pa.ients in M group were given 6 mg/kg of ma.nesium sulpha.e diluted in 10 ml norma. sa.ine intra.enously while in S group 10 ml of norma. sa.ine wa. inj.cted intra.enously. The occurrence a.d degree of fa.cicula.ion were recorded a.ter a.ministra.ion of suxa.ethonium in both groups while serum pota.sium wa. a.so ta.en a. the end of fa.cicula.ions. The resea.cher wa. blinded to the content of the syringes until a.ter the study. Results: More pa.ients in the S group ha. fa.cicula.ions compa.ed to the M group while the degree of fa.cicula.ions wa. more in the S group, the serum pota.sium increa.e wa. more in the sa.ine group.
