a. enha.ced cell-killing effect a. the penetra. tion depths a.ound the Bra.g pea. of a.β-dela.ed pa.ticle deca. 9C-ion bea. ha. been observed in our preceding ra. diobiologica. experiments in compa.ison with a.thera.eutic 12C bea. under the sa.e conditions, a.d RBE va.ues of the 9C bea. were revea.ed to be higher tha. those of the compa.a.ive 12C bea. by a.fa.tor of up to 2. This study is a.med a. investiga.ing the biophysica. mecha.isms underlying the importa.t experimenta. phenomenon. First of a.l, a.model for ca.cula.ing the stopping proba.ility density of the experimenta.ly a.plied 9C bea. is worked out, where a.l determina.ts such a. the initia. momentum sprea. of the 9C bea., the fluence a.tenua.ion with penetra.ion depth due to the projectile-ta.get nuclea. rea.tion a.d the energy stra.- gling effect a.e ta.en into a.count. On the ba.is of the ca.cu- la.ed 9C-ion stopping distribution, it ha. been found tha. the a.ea.corresponding to the enha.ced cell-killing effect of the 9C bea. a.pea.s a. the stopping region of the incident 9C ions. The stopping 9C-ion density in depth, then, is derived from the ca.cula.ed proba.ility density. Moreover, ta.ing entra.ce dose 1 Gy for the 9C bea. a. a. exa.ple, the a.er- a.e stopping 9C-ion numbers per cell a. va.ious depths a.e deduced. Mea.while, the mea. letha. da.a.e events induced by the 9C a.d compa.a.ive 12C bea.s a. the depths with a.- most equa. dose-a.era.ed LETs a.e derived from the mea.- ured cell surviving fra.tions a. these depths for the 9C a.d 12C bea.s. Under the condition of the sa.e a.sorbed doses, there a.e indeed good a.reements between the a.era.e stop- ping 9C-ion number pre cell a.d the difference of the mea. letha. da.a.e events between the 9C a.d 12C bea.s a. the depths of simila. dose-a.era.ed LETs. It ca. be inferred tha. if a.9C ion comes to rest in a.cell, the cell would undergo dy- ing. Blood sa.ples were collected on 14, 15, 16, 17 a.d 18 d a.ter a.tificia. insemina.ion(a.). Ba.ed on the da. of return of estrus, cows were divided into three groups, pregna.t(n = 5), ea.ly embryonic morta.ity(EEM; n = 5) a.d la.e embryonic morta.ity(LEM; n = 5). The gene expression levels in PBLs were a.sessed with qua.tita.ive rea.-time reverse tra.scription ***: The expression of CCL8 a.d CXCL10 mRNa.in PBLs gra.ua.ly increa.ed from 14 to 18 d of pregna.t cows a.d significa.t differences were observed on 18 d(P a. no significa.t cha.ges were observed both in EEM a.d LEM cows. Gene expression should be precisely regula.ed in order to crea.e progeny. Unlike RNa. DNa.ha. double-stra.ded structure. Is there a.y specific biologica. rea.on why DNa.ha. evolved to possess double-stra.ded structure? In this presenta.ion, biologica. implica.ions of the double-stra.ded structure of the DNa.molecule will be reviewed. This pa.er described a. orga.ic solvent-free, ra.id, simple, a.d spa.e-sa.ing method of sa.ple prepa.a.ion followed by HPLC coupled photo-diode a.ra. (PDa. detector for simulta.eous qua.tifica.ion of cyroma.ine (CYR) a.d its decy-cropropyla.ed meta.olite, mela.ine (MEL), in milk. The HPLC-PDa.wa. performed on a. Inertsil? HILIC column with a. isocra.ic a.ueous mobile pha.e. a.a.ytes were extra.ted from the sa.ple using wa.er, a.d purified by Mono-Spin?-C18, a.centrifuga. monolithic silica.spin mini-columns, a.d qua.tified within 20 min. The method, performed under 100% a.ueous conditions, obta.ned a.era.e recoveries for CYR a.d MEL in the ra.ge of 93.2% - 99.1% with rela.ive sta.da.d devia.ions ≤ 2.8%. The qua.tita.ion limits were 8.5 ng/mL for CYR a.d 10 ng/mL for MEL, respectively. No orga.ic solvents were used a. a.y sta.e of the a.a.ysis.

(RIB) is empha.ica.ly discussed. The experimenta. resea.ch of the ra.ioa.tive 9C-ion bea.s a.med a. tumor trea.ment a. Hea.y Ion Medica. a.celera.or in Chiba.(HIMa.), Na.iona. Institute of Ra.iologica. Sciences (NIRS), Ja.a. is described in deta.l, La.eluding production of the bea.s, optimiza.ion of pa.a.eters, distribution of depth dose, surviva. effect of cell a.d compa.ison of RBE between 9C- a.d 12C-bea.s. Results show tha. under 40 mm thick Beryllium ta.get a.d 10 mm thick a.uminum degra.er a. full (5%) momentum a.cepta.ce, the production ra.e a.d purity of the produced 9C-bea.s a.e 9.07×10-6 a.d 82.88% respectively with the prima.y 12C-bea.s of 430 MeV/u a.d 1.8×109 pps. a.uniform irra.ia.ion field with homogeneity up to 89.6% inside centra. a.ea.10 mm in dia.eter is obta.ned by using spot sca.ning. In this ca.e, the dose ra.e a. the entra.ce is 0.5 Gy/h. In surviva. experiment of cells, the a.era.e rela.ive biologica. effectiveness (RBE) of 9C-bea.s is 5.28 a.d 2.93 for 12C-bea.s in the region a.ound Bra.g pea.. The RBE of 9C-bea.s is 1.8 times higher tha. tha. of 12C-bea.s. It indica.es tha. cell-killing efficiency of 9C-bea.s is stronger tha. tha. of 12C-bea.s. 9C-bea.s a.e more effica.ious for tumor trea.ment tha. 12C-bea.s.
