Mineralization episode of porphyry copper deposits in the Jinshajiang-Red River mineralization belt: Re-Os dating

Re-Os isotopic dating for the molybdenites from the porphyry copper deposits of the Jinshajiang-Red River mineralization belt in Yunnan Province yields isochron ages of 3..9±1.1 Ma for the Machangqing deposit and 3.0}4.0.5 Ma for the Tongchang deposit. This result shows that both the Machangqing and the Tongchang porphyry Cu-Mo deposits from two different ore-fields formed simultaneously. This new data and the published Re-Os model ages of molybdenite (3..4.Ma, 3..9 Ma, 3..2 Ma) of the Yulong porphyry copper deposit in Tibet, which is located in the same Jinshajiang-Red River mineralization belt as the Machangqing deposit and the Tongchang deposit, suggest that these three Cenozoic porphyry copper deposits in the Jinshajiang-Red River mineralization belt were contemporary for their mineralization episode. That is to say, even their present locality is far away and nearly iso-distantly distributed, these three porphyry Cu(Mo) deposits belong to the same mineralization episode at the end of Eocene.

Garnet Sm-Nd and U-Pb systems: A case study of a granulite from the European Variscan belt

This study presents zircon and garnet ages of a mafic granulite from the high-grade Variscan basement of the Black Forest, Germany and discuss isotope closure temperature of garnet Sm-Nd and U-Pb systems. Zircon grains yield 207Pb/206Pb ages between -3.0} and -4.4.Ma by the U-Pb and evaporation methods. In contract, garnet dating gives Sm-Nd and Pb-Pb isochron ages of (3.8±3. Ma and (4.1±14. Ma, respectively, which are older than most of zircon ages. These data imply that most of zircons lost radiogenic Pb, probably due to metamictization or recrystallisa-tion during the granulite-facies metamorphism (-800°C) at -3.0} Ma. Garnet Sm-Nd and U-Pb systems preserve chronological information of pro-grade metamorphism, probably profiting from a fluid-absence metamorphic environment. These results demonstrate that garnet mineral can be a better candidate than zircon mineral to date high-grade metamorphism by the U-Pb and Sm-Nd methods in some cases.

Ore-forming fluid and mineralization of Caijiaying and Dajing polymetallic ore deposits

Fluid inclusions from the Dajing and Caijiaying deposits have nearly the same homogenization temperature. Correlation between temperature and salinity shows that both Sn- and Cu-bearing fluids Sn and Cu were present in the Dajing deposit but only one kind of fluids continuously evolved in the Caijiaying deposit. Study on rare earth elements (REE) in ancient fluid from the inclusions indicates that the fluid of Sn mineralizing stage in Dajing was derived from remelting magma of the continental crust, and the fluid of Cu-Pb-Zn mineralizing stage in the Dajing deposit and the fluid of Cu-Pb-Zn mineralization in the Caijiaying deposit were derived from the mantle. It is concluded that the Cu-Pb-Zn mineralizations in the Dajing and Caijiaying deposits resulted from the identical tectono-thermal event of magma-fluids induced by Mesozoic tectonic transition and extension in the eastern part of North china Craton.

WITH the increase of heating temperature, phase of pyrophyllite will undergo a series of transformations. Former scholars have done some work in this respect; the temperature spans,however, were normally not more than 1150℃ and no relatively comprehensive results have been reported. Thus, the features of the phases from indoor temperature to melting point (1710℃±) for pyrophyllite and the entire evolutionary process of the phases are uncertain.

FORMATION AND EUOLUTION OF TETHYS IN THE TIBETAN PLATEAU

The formation of the Tibetan Plateau is closely related to the evolution of Tethys. There have been many researchers and articles concerning the Tethys since *** proposed the concept in 1893. It means a large ocean which lies between Eurasia and Gondwanaland. With the development of Tethyan research, some new terms, appeared such as Neo\|Tethys, Paleo\|Tethys, and Proto\|Tethys, representing the Tethys in Mesozoic—Cenozoic, late Paleozoic and early Paleozoic respectively. The trace of an ocean from Sinian to Ordovician was discovered during the scientific expedition and Proto\|Tethys was proposed to name the ocean. Therefore, the Tibetan Plateau is the main scope of the Eastern Tethys. It can be divided c losely related into three zones which represent the main oceanic locations in th ree different *** Northern Tethyan Region lies in the Kunlun and Qilian Mountains, its remnant is the Fifth Suture Zone. It is also the northern boundary of the Tibetan Plateau The rift initiated after the continental basement had been formed in Sinian and gradually developed into an ocean, which was named Proto\|Tethys, the earliest Tethyan ocean known up to now. The petrochemical compositions of pillow lava in this zone show the characteristics of mid\|ocean ridge tholeiite basalt and the pelagic ophiolitic flysch were well developed, indicating a matured ocean. It was closed in Ordovician and Silurian.

The petrological and geochemical features of the bed parallel granitic intrusion in the Pre-Cambrian Baoban group in Hainan Island attest to the anatexis origin of the granites. U-Pb dating analyses of zircons from the anatectic granite and the biotite two-feldspar gneiss in the Baoban group, using SHRIMP II in the Beijing Ion-probe Center, acquire 206Pb/23.U ages of 3.8±3.5 Ma (of granite, 95% confidence level, MSDW=1.23. and 3.2.9±6.1 Ma (of gneiss, 95% confidence level, MSDW = 2.04. respectively. The two late Devonian ages indicate consistently a tectonic- thermal event experienced in Hainan Island, and are the first discovered record of the Devonian geological process in the district. This event possibly resulted from the deep ther-mal-dynamic process when the Gondwana continent began to break up in the Devonian period.

δ^13.sc values of the loess-paleosol sequence in Dali area, Shaanxi Province, china, and paleoenvironmental implications

The carbon isotopic ratios of carbonate in the two profiles of the Dali area were analyzed and some new understandings on the influencing factors of the δ13.SC value of the loess-paleosol sequence and its paleoenvironmental implications were discussed preliminarily in this report. The 13.SC value of the Dali loess-paleosol sequence is synchronizing with the variance of magnetic susceptibility basically and the negative peaks of the δ13.SC curves are corresponding to the different developmental periods of the paleosol. It is believed that the intervention of the CO2 produced by plants will cause the decrease of the δ13.SC value, the amplitude of which may be relevant to the paleovegetation density and the ancient humidity. The relative biomass of C4.plants in the vegetation will affect the sublevel change of the δ13.SC. Low δ13.SC value by and large indicates the environmental conditions of the relatively abundant vegetation and humid climate. During the last 250000 years, the period with the sparsest vegetation and the most arid climate is the phase of the loess in L2 depositing and the period with the most abundant vegetation and the most humid climate is the last interglacial period. The δ13.SC curves of Dali also show that the High Temperature and Large Precipitation Event of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau during 4.-3. kaBP had affected the Central Shaanxi Plain with relatively humid climate, and had apparent influence on the local vegetation and humidity.

The high-resolution climate recorded in the δ^(18)O of Porites lutea from the Nansha Islands of china

A Porites lutea core from Yongshu Reef of Nansha Islands covering 50 years growth history was ana-ly/ed for oxygen isotopic composition with monthly and seasonally resolution. The calibration of the δ18O with the instrumental temperature indicated that the coral δ18O is a good indicator for sea surface temperature (SST) and air temperature (t). It can be used to reconstruct the SST and air temperature of the Yongshu Reef sea area. In addition, the coral δ18O provides signatures for the intensity of the East Asia monsoon and it is a record for the activities of El Nino events. With the calibrated SST and air temperature formulas, the most recent fifty years SST and air temperature were reconstructed based on the coral δ18O, thus back up the understanding of the climate of Nansha Islands to 1950. far beyond the limit of the instrumental recording since September 1988. It was found that, in general, increasing 1℃ air temperature results in 0.24.decrease in skeletal δ18O.

The emergence of the Qing—Zang plateau is among the most important geological events on the globe since the Cenozoic Era. Many geological issues can find answer from here. The major issues concerning plateau probably have three: (1) geodynamics, timing and speed of the plateau uplift;(2) The plateau uplift impact on surrounding environment;(3. mineral resources in the plateau. The authors want to focuses on first issue based on volcanisms occurred in interior and surrounding of the plateau, The new opinions are following:(1) Each volcanic eruptive episode corresponded to strong uplift stage;(2) The dynamic mechanism of the plateau uplift can not ignore another force from west beyond collision between Indian and Eurasia plates from South;(3. The surrounding volcanic chain is not only related to the collision from South, but also from west.
