Permeability tensors of both macrofracture and microfracture Systems weremeasured progressively along the depth of limestone formations at severed sites. It was found thatthe principal permeability values K_x, K_y and K_z in these permeability tensors all decreasesimultaneously and logarithmically with depth. However, the limestone aquifers are composed of anupper region where the larger permeability ellipsoid is upright or prolate and characterized byK_z>K_x and K_z>K_y, a transitional zone, and a lower zone whose smaller permeability ellipsoid ishorizontal or oblate and characterized by K_z>K_x and K_z>K_y. The inversion of the permeabilityellipsoids in direction indicates that the anisotropy of rock permeability with the depth oflimestone formations has evidently changed. The anisotropic variation law of permeability tensors ina macrofracture system displays a similar pattern with that in a microfracture system. It is nextto impossible to examine the rock permeability tensor of the aquifer just by measuring the hydraulicparameters of macrofracture system directly, unless the limestone aquifer is exposed on or near theearth's surface. Therefore, the permeability tensors of a macrofracture system at any depth may beindirectly and roughly determined from the gaugeable permeability tensors of the microfracturesystem by conversion. This anisotropic variation law of rock permeability with depth is of greatsignificance in the study of three-dimensional fracture water flow the huge carbonate formations andin the research on the conditions of karst development and karst distribution.

It is well known that marine sponges harbor large numbers of bacteria,some of which have been proved to be *** diversity of bacteria in marine sponges distributed along the coast of South china Sea has been previously studied but that of bacteria in sponges inhabiting the open sea has been rarely *** this report,the diversity of bacteria associated with the marine sponge Agelas robusta from a remote coral reef in the South china Sea was documented employing 16S rDNA library construction,amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis（ARDRA） and phylogenetic analysis.A total of 32 phylotypes were finally categorized in nine phyla including Cyanobacteria,Proteobacteria,Chloroflexi,Firmicutes,Actinobacteria,Acidobacteria,Planctomycetes,Bacteroidetes and *** dominant phylum was Proteobacteria whereas the dominant genus was Synechococcus in *** spongespecific bacteria were also found in the bacteria population,but the proportion（5 OTUs/32 OTUs） was much lower than other *** study reveals the phylogenetic diversity of bacteria in *** and confirms the presence of some sponge-specific bacteria in the South china *** the diversity of sponge-associated bacteria in china assists to exploit the bacteria resources for biotechnology.

Either cetuximab or bevacizumab can improve the survival of patients with metastastic colorectal cancer (mCRC) if administered combided with cytotoxic agents. However, the effect of two or more target agents in combination is uncertain in these patients. Here, we reported a patient with mCRC successfully treated by a combination of target agents after the failure of chemotherapy. The patient received palliative resection of primary tumor followed by 9 cycles of postoperative XELOX regimen, cytokine-induced killer cell (CIK)-based biotherapy, traditional Chinese medicine, particle implantation in the lung metastatic lesions. The tumor progressed 20 months after the standard treatments. Then, the regimen cetuximab, bevacizumab and cefitinib was applied. During the treatment with targeted agents, grade IV acne-like rash and relatively severe parionychia of the toes occurred. Both of them recovered smoothly. The PET-CT reexamination at 40 days after the target treatment showed that the metabolism of mediastinal lymph nodes basically recovered to a normal level. The combination of multiple targeted agents obtained a progression-free survival(PFS) of 11 months and the patient with a good quality of life during this period.

BACKGROUND: Atrophy of skeletal muscle is found under the condition of muscular disuse or in the process of fixation. It is affected by fixation, and electromyogram (EMG) discharge and muscular strength levels will be significantly decreased with accelerating tendency. Electrical stimulation (ES) therapy can release the velocity of muscular disuse atrophy effectively, so it is an effective method for preventing and treating muscular disuse atrophy and accelerating rehabilitation velocity following removal of fixation. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of ES therapy at different time points following the fixation of rat models of muscular disuse atrophy on muscular strength and EMG of quadriceps femoris. DESIGN: A randomized and controlled animal experiment. SETTING: Department of Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy, guangzhou General Hospital of guangzhou Military Area Command of Chinese PLA; College of Sports Science, South china Normal University. MATERIALS: Male SD rats, of clean grade, aged 4 months old, weighing (230±10) g, were provided by the Animal Experimental Center of Sun Yat-sen University. EMG measurement and analysis system (NEC Company, Japan) and four-channel recorder (NEC Company, Japan) were used in this experiment. METHODS: This experiment was carried out in the Laboratory of Human Sports Science, South china Normal University between September 2003 and March 2004. Totally 125 successful SD rat models of muscular disuse atrophy were randomly divided into 5 groups with 25 rats in each by a lot: normal control group, in which, the rats were untouched; ES 24 hours, 1, 2 and 3 weeks groups: the knees of rats in these four groups were fixed. Rats in four groups underwent ES therapy at 24 hours, 1, 2 and 3 weeks after fixation. T90-Ⅱ computer ES muscular strength training instrument was used in ES therapy every other day. Two full-length genomic cDNA clones, pTA/FMDV and pCA/FMDV, were constructed that contained three point-mutants [A174G and A308G (not present in pTA/FMDV); T1029G] in the genome compared with the wild type A/AKT/58 strain of foot-and-mouth disease virus. These two viruses were rescued by co-transfection of pCA/FMDV with pCT7RNAP, which can express T7 RNA polymerase in BHK-21 cell-lines, or by transfection of the in vitro transcribed RNA. Their biological properties were analyzed for their antigenicity, virulence in suckling-mice (LD50) and growth kinetics in BHK-21 cells. The in vivo rescued viruses showed high pathogenicity for 3-day-old unweaned mice (LD50=10?7.5). However, the in vitro transcribed RNA derived from pTA/FMDV had lower pathogenicity for suckling-mice (LD50=10?6), and the in vivo transcribed RNA recovered from pCA/FMDV co-transfected with pCT7RNAP showed no significant differences from the wild type virus. These data showed that recovery of the infectious foot-and-mouth disease virus directly from the use of in vivo techniques was better than from in vitro methods. Furthermore, the reverse genetic procedure technique was simplified to a faster one-step procedure based on co-transfection with pCT7RNAP. These results suggest that in vivo RNA tran- scripts may be more valuable for engineering recombinant foot-and-mouth disease virus than in vitro RNA transcripts, and may contribute to further understanding of the biological properties, such as replication, maturation and quasispecies, of the foot-and-mouth disease virus.

Background and Objective: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant cancers in the world. Although the clinicopathologic staging is the golden criterion for the prognosis at present, the optimum prognostic criteria for colorectal cancer should be a combination of the clinicopathologic staging and the molecular markers. However, there are currently no molecular markers available for the prognosis of colorectal cancer. Several tumor-suppressor genes associated with colorectal cancer have been mapped at the 18q21-23 region. In this study we detected the frequency of loss of heterozygosity (LOH) at chromosome 18q and investigated the relationship between LOH and clinicopathologic features and its prognostic value for patients with stage Ⅱ colon cancer. Methods: A total of 106 samples of tumor tissues and corresponding normal mucosa from patients with sporadic stage-Ⅱ colon cancer were included in this study. All the samples were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. DNA was extracted from tumor tissues and LOH of D18S474, D18S55, D18S58, D18S61 and D18S64 at chromosome 18q was analyzed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), polyacrylamide gel-electrophoresis, and DNA sequencing method. Multivariate analysis for association between LOH and prognosis in colon cancer patients was performed with Cox proportional hazards regression model. Results: The median follow-up time was 68 months. For 106 patients, 5-year survival rate was 83.6%, which was associated with age and gross tumor type (P = 0.011 and 0.034, respectively). Among 102 patients who were eligible for LOH information, the overall frequency of LOH is 49.0% (50/102), and that of LOH at 5 microsatellite loci of D18S474, D18S55, D18S58, D18S61, and D18S64 was 30.2% (26/86), 23.4% (18/77), 28.6% (20/70), 35.0% (28/80), and 20.8%(15/72), respectively. In this paper we show that the twisted Ate pairing on elliptic curves can be generalized to hyperelliptic curves, and give a series of variations of the hyperelliptic Ate and twisted Ate pairings. Using the hyperelliptic Ate pairing and twisted Ate pairing, we propose a new approach to speeding up the Weil pairing computation. For some hyperelliptic curves with high degree twist, computing Weil pairing by our approach may be faster than Tate pairing, Ate pairing, and all other known pairings.

Samples of sediments and the overlying water were collected in the Qi＇ao Island coastal zone,the Zhujiang（Pearl River） Estuary（ZE）.Denitrification rates,sediment oxygen demand（SOD）,and fluxes of inorganic nitrogen compounds were investigated with N2 flux method,using a self-designed continuous flow through and auto-sampling *** results indicate that the denitrification rates varied between 222 and 908 μmol/（m2·h） with an average of 499 μmol /（m2·h）.During incubation,the sediments absorbed dissolved oxygen in the overlying water with SOD ranging from 300 to 2 363 μmol/（m2·h）.The denitrification rates were highly correlated with the SOD（r2=0.77） regardless of the NO-3＋NO-2 concentrations in the overlying water,organic carbon contents in sediments and water temperature,suggesting that the SOD was probably the main environmental factor controlling the denitrification in the Qi＇ao Island coastal *** was a net flux of NO-3＋NO-2 into the sediments from the overlying *** NH＋4 flux from sediments into water as the result of mineralization was between 12.3 and 210.3 μmol/（m2·h）,which seems limited by both organic carbon content in sediment and dissolved oxygen concentration in the overlying water.
