Daily observations of wind speed at 12 stations in the Greater beijing Area during 1960-2008 were homogenized using the Multiple Analysis of Series for Homogenization *** linear trends in the regional mean annual and seasonal(winter,spring,summer and autumn) wind speed series were -0.26,-0.39,-0.30,-0.12 and -0.22 m s 10yr,*** showed the greatest magnitude in declining wind speed,followed by spring,autumn and *** annual and seasonal frequencies of wind speed extremes(days) also decreased,more prominently for winter than for the other *** declining trends in wind speed and extremes were formed mainly by some rapid declines during the 1970s and *** maximum declining trend in wind speed occurred at Chaoyang(CY),a station within the central business district(CBD) of beijing with the highest level of *** declining trends were in general smaller in magnitude away from the city center,except for the winter case in which the maximum declining trend shifted northeastward to rural Miyun(MY).The influence of urbanization on the annual wind speed was estimated to be about -0.05 m s(10 yr) during 1960-2008,accounting for around one fifth of the regional mean declining *** annual and seasonal geostrophic wind speeds around beijing,based on daily mean sea level pressure (MSLP) from the ERA-40 reanalysis dataset,also exhibited decreasing trends,coincident with the results from site observations.A comparative analysis of the MSLP fields between 1966-1975 and 1992-2001 suggested that the influences of both the winter and summer monsoons on beijing were weaker in the more recent of the two *** is suggested that the bulk of wind in beijing is influenced considerably by urbanization,while changes in strong winds or wind speed extremes are prone to large-scale climate change in the region.

A COUPLED MODEL OF HYDRODYNAMICS AND WATER QUALITY FOR YUQIAO RESERVOIR IN HAIHE RIVER BASIN

In order to simulate the characteristics of hydrodynamic field and mass transport processes in the Yuqiao Reservoir （YQR）, a 2-D coupled model of hydrodynamics and water quality was developed, and the water-quality related state variables in this model included CODMn, TN and TP. The hydrodynamic model was driven by employing observed winds and daily measured flow data to simulate the seasonal water cycle of the reservoir. The simulation of the mass transport and transformation processes of CODMn, TN and TP was based on the unsteady diffusion equations, driven by observed meteorological forcing and external loadings, with the fluxes form the bottom of reservoir and the plant photosynthesis and respiration as internal sources and sinks. A finite volume method and Alternating Direction Implicit （ADI） scheme were used to solve these equations. The model was calibrated and verified by using the data observed from YQR in two different years. The results showed that in YQR, the wind-driven current was an important style of lake current, while the concentration of water quality item was decreasing from east to west because of the external pollutant loadings. There was a good agreement between the simulated and measured values, with the minimal calculation error percent of 0.1% and 2.6% and the mean error percent of 44.0% and 51.2% for TN and TP separately. The simulation also showed that, in YQR, the convection was the main process in estuaries of inflow river, and diffusion and biochemical processes dominate in center of reservoir. So it was necessary to build a pre-pond to reduce the external loadings into the reservoir.

Plateau Marsh Methane Oxidation as affected by Inorganic N

In a series of laboratory incubations using soils of two contrasting sitesfrom a temperate marsh on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, potential methane (CH_4) oxidation rates weremeasured to study the effects of inorganic N inputs on CH_4 oxidation. For adrained site, subsurfacepeat (5--15 cm) at an initial 20 mu L CH_4 L^(-1) showed a significantly different (P 30 and 30--50 cm) also had a strongCH_4 oxidation capacity at about an initial 2 000 mu L CH_4 L^(-1). With a waterlogged site, theCH_4 oxidation rate in an aerobic incubation was significantly greater (P 30 and 30--50 cm depths. There was generally no or a veryweak effect from addition of NO_3^- on CH_4 oxidation. In marked contrast, NH_4^+ salts, such as(NH_4)_2SO_4, NH_4Cl and NH_4NO_3, exhibited strong inhibitions, which varied as a function of theadded salts and the initial CH_4 level Increasing NH_4^+ usually resulted in greater inhibition andincreasing initial CH_4 concentrations resulted in less NH_4^+ inhibition on CH4 oxidation innatural high-altitude, low-latitude wetlands could be as important as has been reported foragricultural and forest soils. The NH_4^+ effects on the CH_4 oxidation rate need to be furtherinvestigated in a wide range of natural wetland soil types.

Co-seismic ground deformation and source parameters of Mani M7.9 earthquake inferred from spaceborne D-InSAR observation data

We obtain the co-seismic ground deformation field of the Mani M7.9 earthquake on November 8, 1997 through three-pass differential interferometric processing. Then we get the geometric and kinematics parameters of this event by the elastic half-space model and forward modeling with the InSAR data. The following results have been obtained: (i) The deformation fields on both sides of the seismogenic fault are affected by the co-seismic deformation field even in 110 km away from the fault. The loss of phase coherence belt caused by the zone of ground rupture crosses the image from east to west with a length of an area 110 km. (ii) The maximum horizontal displacement caused by the earthquake reaches 7.96 m. (iii) The earthquake fault can be divided into four parts, and the deformation field of the middle two parts is bigger than that of the other two, with lengths of 27 km and 37 km, respectively. And their average sliding values on the rupture surface are 6500 mm and 6000 mm, respectively, and their depths both are 35 km. The segment of 27 km length is the major rupture surface of this earthquake. The west part and the east part of the fault have lengths of 23 km and 26 km, respectively. The sliding value of the west one is 4000 mm and that of the east one is 5800 mm. They extend to depths of 20 km and 18 km, respectively.

Influence of CO2 corrosion on reservoir mineralogical composition,pore structure and their mechanical characteristics was studied using XRD,SEM,rock tri-axial machine and core flow experimental *** was found that the corrosion effect was mainly attributed to rock texture and structure,fluid composition and external dynamical conditions in the experimental *** cores with bedding structures,their bedding surfaces were the preferential corrosion regions,because micro-cracks would evolve at these surfaces in the pressure-releasing ***,for cores with massive structures controlled by stable water environment,the CO2 corrosion would result in pore enlargement and secondary pore *** gas velocity from outlet showed sharp increase in the injection process of CO2-H2O *** could be explained by two changes caused by *** was the opening and closure of *** other was particle *** the corrosion time increased,both tensile strength and compressive strength decreased,which confirmed decrease of cementation *** should also be noted that permeability increase and micro-cracks generation would pose damage to the capacity of CO2 geological storage.

Origins of intraseasonal rainfall variations over the southern South china Sea in boreal winter

This study investigates the origins of intraseasonal rainfall variations over the southern South china Sea（SCS） region in boreal *** is found that intraseasonal rainfall variations over the southern SCS have different origins on the 10-20-day and 30-60-day time *** the 10-20-day time scale,large rainfall anomalies over the southern SCS are preceded by strong northerly wind anomalies associated with the east asian winter monsoon（EAWM）,by about two *** the 30-60-day time scale,the strong EAWM-related northerly wind anomalies almost appear simultaneously with large rainfall anomalies over the southern *** addition,obvious large rainfall anomalies occur over the southeastern tropical Indian Ocean about one week before the peak southern SCS rainfall *** indicates that the convection and related circulation anomalies with origins over the tropical Indian Ocean may play an important role in inducing intraseasonal rainfall variations over the southern SCS on the 30-60-day time scale,but not on the 10-20-day time scale.

We compiled and identified a list of chinese endemic seed plant species based on a large number of published references and expert reviews. The characters of these seed plant species and their distribution patterns were described at length. china is rich in endemic seed plants, with a total of 14 939 species (accounting for 52.1% of its total seed plant species) belonging to 1584 genera and 191 families. temperate families and genera have a significantly higher proportion of endemism than cosmopolitan and tropical ones. The most primitive and derived groups have significantly higher endemism than the other groups. The endemism of tree, shrub, and liana or vine is higher than that of total species; in contrast, the endemism of herb is lower than that of total species. Geographically, these chinese endemic plants are mainly distributed in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, southwest china. Species richness and proportion of these endemic plants decrease with increased latitude and have a unimodal response to altitude. The peak value of proportion of endemism is at higher altitudes than that of total species and endemic species richness. The proportions of endemic shrub, liana or vine, and herb increase with altitude and have a clear unimodal curve. In contrast, the proportion of tree increases with altitude, with a sudden increase at ～4000 m and has a completely different model. To date, our study provides the most comprehensive list of chinese endemic seed plant species and their basic composition and distribution features.

Precursory SST anomalies associated with the convection over the western Pacific warm pool

The convection over the tropical western Pacific warm pool influences significantly the atmospheric circulation and climate in east asia. Thus, the precursory signals of the convection may be used in the forecast of summer climate in china. According to the present results, the June-July-August (JJA) mean convection intensity over the warm pool is significantly related to the precursory positive and negative sea surface temperatures (SSTs) in the warm pool and in the equatorial central and eastern Pacific, respectively. It is also related to the simultaneous negative surface temperatures west to the Philippines. The analysis on the SSTs associated with the convection over the warm pool in individual month of summer shows that for the convection in June and July, there are precursory SST signals in the warm pool and the equatorial central and eastern Pacific. Therefore, this study shows that only the convection in June and July, rather than that in August, has precursory SST signals, despite the

The anion coordination complex,[ClPt(bpt)4]Cl (bpt=N,N'-bis(3-pyridylmethyl)-2-thiourea),was synthesized and studied by X-ray crystal structure analysis,NMR and FAB mass spectra. In the solid state,the Pt(bpt)4 anion receptor adopts a cone conformation to bind the chloride anion through hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interaction in which the four branches of the thiourea ligands bind the chloride anion to form N-H…Cl-hydrogen bonds (3.49-3.81). The entraped chloride anion is situated above the Pt(Ⅱ) center at 3.52 . Further second-sphere coordination assemby from the Pt(bpt)4 core with 8 zinc(Ⅱ) tetraphenylporphyrins (ZnPr) is discussed.
