Aim:Intracellular Ca2+plays pivotal roles in diverse cellular functions,includinggene transcription that underlies cardiac remodeling during stress ***,the role of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors（IP3Rs）in the media-tion of cardiac intracellular Ca2+and hypertrophic growth remains *** with neonatal rat ventricular myocytes suggests that activation of IP3Rsmay be linked to α1adrenergic receptor（α1AR）increased stereotyped Ca2+sparkoccurrence and global Ca2+***,we hypothesized that Ca2+releasethrough IP3Rs was necessary for α1AR-stimulated cardiac ***:We used myoinositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate hexakis（butyryloxymethyl）ester（IP3BM）,a membrane-permeant ester of IP3,to activate IP3Rs directly,and Fluo 4/AM tomeasure intracellular Ca2+***:IP3BM(10μmol·L-1)mimicked theeffects of phenylephrine,a selective agonist of α1AR,in increments in local Ca2+spark release（especially in the perinuclear area）and global Ca2+*** importantly,IP3R inhibitors,2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borateand Xestospongin C,abolished the IP3BM-induced Ca2+responses,and signifi-cantly suppressed α1AR-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy assayed by cellsize,[3H]leucine incorporation and atrial natriuretic factor gene expression,dur-ing sustained（48 h）phenylephrine ***:These results,therefore,provide cellular mechanisms that link IP3R signaling to α1AR-stimulatedgene expression and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.

The knowledge that hydrostatic pressure is equal to the gravity value of the overlying rocks in studying a dynamic state of certain underground site is argued. It is suggested that the stress field T in the crust is a combination or superposition of total hydrostatic pressure P with differential stress σ,and the total hydrostatic pressure P at any point in the crust comprises two parts: one is spherical stress tensor PG caused by the gravity, and the other is spherical stress tensor Ps caused by tectonic stress; therefore P could not be attributed to the gravity of overlying rocks only. The results obtained by a finite-element simulation indicate that the tectono-original additional hydrostatic pressures Ps decrease gradually from the compressive zone （pcS） to the shear zone (PSHs)and to the tensile zone （PTs）, i.e.Pcs>PsHs>PTs in the same depth. The formation and stability of Si_(1-x)C_x alloys in Si implanted with carbon ions

Si1-xCx alloys of carbon (C) concentration between 0.6%-1.0% were grown in Si by ion implantation and high temperature annealing. The formation of Si1-xCx alloys under different ion doses and their stability during annealing were studied. If the implanted dose was less than that for amorphizing Si crystals, the implanted C atoms would like to combine with defects produced during implantation and it was difficult to form Si1-xCx alloys after being annealed at 850℃. With the increment of implanted C ion doses, the lattice damage increased and it was easier to form Si1-xCx alloys. But the lattice strain would become saturate and only part of implanted carbon atoms would occupy the substitutional positions to form Si1-xCx alloys as the implanted carbon dose increased to a certain degree. Once Si1-xCx alloys were formed, they were stable at 950℃, but part of their strain would release as the annealing temperature increased to 1 000℃. Discovery and character of the Kunlun-Yellow River Movement

Based on geomorphological, tectonic and sedimentary data, a Kunlun Yellow River Tectonic Movement has been recognized in 1 10-0 60 Ma B.P. This tectonic movement, which leads to uplift of the Qinghai_Xizang (Tibet) Plateau from 1 500 to 3 000-3 500 m, is periodic, abrupt and changeable in the movement rate of uplifting and slide slipping.

New discrete element models for elastoplastic problems

The discrete element method （DEM） has attractive features for problems with severe damages, but lack of theoretical basis for continua behavior especially for nonlinear behavior has seriously restricted its application. The present study proposes a new approach to developing the DEM as a general and robust technique for modeling the elastoplastic behavior of solid materials. New types of connective links between elements are proposed, the interelement parameters are theoretically determined based on the principle of energy equivalence and a yield criterion and a flow rule for DEM are given for describing nonlinear behavior of materials. Moreover, a numerical scheme, which can be applied to modeling the behavior of a continuum as well as the transformation from a continuum to a discontinuum, is obtained by introducing a fracture criterion and a contact model into the DEM. The elastoplastic stress wave propagations and the tensile failure process of a steel plate are simulated, and the numerical results agree well with those obtained from the finite element method （FEM） and corresponding experiment, and thus the accuracy and efficiency of the DEM scheme are demonstrated.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ ligands induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human renal carcinoma cell lines

Aim: To study the effect of peroxisome proliferator-actived receptor y （PPARγ） ligands on cell proliferation and apoptosis in human renal carcinoma cell lines. Methods: The expression of PPARγ was investigated by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）, Western blot and immunohistochemistry. The effect of thiazolidinedione （TZD） PPARγ ligands on growth of renal cell carcinoma （RCC） cells was measured by MTT assay and flow cytometric analysis. Cell death ELISA, Hoechst 33342 fluorescent staining and DNA ladder assay were used to observe the effects of PPARγ ligands on apoptosis. Regulatory proteins of cell cycle and apoptosis were detected by Western blot analysis. Results: PPARγ was expressed at much higher levels in renal tumors than in the normal kidney （2.16±0.85 vs 0.90±0.73; P32 μmol/L for pioglitazone, and 5.71 μmol/L and 8.38 μmol/L for troglitazone in 786-0 and A498 cells, respectively. Cell cycle analysis showed a G0/G1arrest in human RCC cells following 24-h exposure to TZD. Analysis of cell cycle regulatory proteins revealed that TZD decreased the protein levels of proliferating cell nuclear antigen, pRb, cyclin D1, and Cdk4 but increased the levels of p21 and p27 in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, high doses of TZD induced massive apoptosis in renal cancer cells, with increased Bax expression and decreased Bcl-2 expression. Conclusion: TZD PPARγligands showed potent inhibitory effect on proliferation, and could induce apoptosis in RCC cells. These results suggest that ligands for PPARγ have potential antitumor effects on renal carcinoma cells.

The short-range order structures of Fe_xGe_(1-x) amorphous thin films,(x=8.7,19.1 and 28.5%)have been studied by means of X-ray absorption *** nearest neighbors around a Ge or an Fe atom are constituted by two coordinate sub-shells with a very short dis- tance,In two films with lower Fe content,structural parameters of the nearest neighbors around a Ge atom are very near to that in amorphous germanium,and the positions of Fe at- oms are randomly *** when x=28.5%,some great changes occur on the short-range order structure of a-Fe_xGe_(1-x) film:its structure deviates from continuous ran- dora network and tends toward dense random packing of ***,there is a strong- er interaction between near neighboring Fe-Ge atoms in a-Fe_xGe_(1-x) films.

What Can the Redshift Observed in EXO 0748-676 Tell Us?

The mass-radius relations for bare and crusted strange stars are calculated with the bag model. Comparing these relations with the observed one derived from the redshift of EXO 0748–676, we come to the conclusion that it is incorrect to say that EXO 0748–676 cannot be a strange star. Various strange star models can show that EXO 0748–676 could have a mass of (1.3 ~ 1.7)M☉ and a radius of (8.4 ~ 11.4) km. It is proposed that a proportion of nascent strange stars could be bare and have masses ~ 0.1M☉, and their masses increased over a long period of accretion.

The boundary value problem for harmonic maps of the Poincare disc is discussed. The emphasis is on the non-smoothness of the given boundary values in the problem. Let B . be a Banach space consisting of holomorphic quadratic differentials φ in D with normsIt is shown that for any given quasisymmetric homeomorphism h : S1→S1∈ T . , there is a unique quasiconformal harmonic map of D with respect to the Poincare metric whose boundary corresponding is h and the Hopf differential of such a harmonic map belongs to B .

Quality evaluation for air plasma spray thermal barrier coatings with pulsed thermography

Pulsed thermography(PT) as a non-contact non-destructive evaluation(NDE) technique was employed to examine as-sprayed air plasma spray(APS) thermal barrier coatings(TBCs) for quality *** and micro-structural characteristics play a vital role in determining the *** this paper,PT logarithmic peak second-derivative method was adopted to measure the thickness of top *** dependent thermal images were used to characterize the microstructure which was confirmed by scanning electron microscope(SEM).The results showed that there was relationship between the temperature distribution of the surface and microstructure change in *** distribution in thermal images and measurement results of thickness were in fairly good agreement with the microstructure *** can be concluded that it was possible to employ these NDE methods as quality evaluation for as-sprayed TBCs.
