This study aims at the theoretical and practical evidence for prevention of restenosis in *** smooth muscle cell(VSMC)model was established using adherent cell culture *** proliferation of VSMC was investigated by the cell counting method and 3.-TDR implementation *** results are as follows.(1) For ^125I-seeds,the inhibition rate was 29.3. at 74B1(P3..2% at 148Bq(P3.0Bq(P3.d-implanted stents,the inhibition rate was 14.7% at 4.44MBq(P3..0%at 7.4MBq(p3.d-implanted stents at 7.4MBq did not result in VSMC's morphological alteration,but that from ^125I-seeds at 3.0Bq caused morphological changes,Both ^125I-seeds and ^103.d0-implanted stents inhibit the VSMC DNA synthesis in *** inhibition effects are significantly related to their exposure duration and doses.

AIM:To investigate the endoscopy and histology of short-segment Barrett's esophagus (SSBE) and cardia intestinal metaplasia (CIM),and their correlation with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) gastritis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). METHODS:Biopsy specimens were taken from 3. SSBE patients and 41 CIM patients with normal appearance of the esophagogastric junction. Eight biopsy specimens from the lower esophagus,cardia,and gastric antrum were stained with hematoxylin/eosin,Alcian blue/periodic acid-Schiff,Alcian blue/high iron diamine and Gimenez dye. Results were graded independently by one pathologist. RESULTS:The SSBE patients were younger than the CIM patients (P < 0.01). The incidence of dysplasia and incomplete intestinal metaplasia subtype was higher in SSBE patients than in CIM patients (P < 0.01). H. pylori infection was correlated with antral intestinal metaplasia (P < 0.05),but not with reflux symptomatic,endoscopic,or histological markers of GERD in CIM patients. SSBE was correlated with reflux symptomatic and endoscopic esophagitis (P < 0.01),but not with H. pylori infection and antral intestinal metaplasia. CONCLUSION:Dysplasia risk is significantly greater in SSBE patients than in CIM patients. CIM is a manifestation of H. pylori-associated and multifocal atrophic gastritis,whereas SSBE may result from GERD.

BACKGROUND:Small-for-size(SFS)syndrome is an important clinical problem after living donor liver transplantation,split liver transplantation or extended *** uncertainty of the mechanisms and treatments of SFS syndrome urges surgeons to establish effective models for SFS syndrome. METHODS:A new porcine model for SFS syndrome based on extended hepatectomy was *** pressure gradient was observed before and after the surgery,and venous sampling for estimation of alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin,and international normalized ratio was continued on a daily basis. RESULTS:Although the external morphology of the porcine liver differs from that of human being,segmental anatomy is remarkably similar in term of its vascularity and biliary *** hepatectomy with segmentsⅠand Ⅶas resection remnant(about 20%of total liver volume) resulted in similar survival rates,blood liver function tests,and elevated portal pressure gradient as clinical SFS syndrome. CONCLUSIONS:The extended hepatectomy based new model can easily be reproduced,with few costs and surgical *** SFS syndrome can easily be simulated by this new model,which is a useful tool for studying SFS syndrome-related liver injuries,especially portal overperfusion and hypertension.

AIM: To evaluate the effects of sulindac in inducing growth inhibition and apoptosis of human gastric cancer cells in comparison with human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells. METHODS: The human gastric cancer cell lines MKN45 and MKN28 and human hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines HepG(2) and SMMC7721 were used for the study. Anti-proliferative effect was measured by MTT assay, and apoptosis was determined by Hoechst-3.258 staining, electronography and DNA fragmentation. The protein of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and Bcl-2 were detected by Western dot blotting. RESULTS: Sulindac could initiate growth inhibition and apoptosis of MKN45, MKN28, HepG(2) and SMMC7721 cells in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Growth inhibitory activity and apoptosis were more sensitive in HepG(2) cells than in SMMC7721 cells, MKN45 and MKN28 cells. After 24 hours incubation with sulindac at 2mmol x L(-1) and 4mmol x L(-1), the level of COX-2 and Bcl-2 protein were lowered in MKN45, SMMC7721 and HepG(2) cells but not in MKN28 cells. CONCLUSION: Sulindac could inhibit the growth of gastric cancer cells and HCC cells effectively in vitro by apoptosis induction, which was associated with regression of COX-2 and Bcl-2 expression. The growth inhibition and apoptosis of HCC cells were greater than that of human gastric cancer cells. The different effects of apoptosis in gastric cancer cells may be related to the differentiation of the cells.

BACKGROUND: Hepatic artery thrombosis is one of the serious complications after liver transplantation. It wil mostly cause a failure of the transplantation. This case o hepatic artery thrombosis showed a stable clinical course and minimal histological change, and now has been survi ving for 4 years with normal liver function. We investigated the possible causes for asymptomatic hepatic artery throm bosis in one patient after orthotopic liver transplantation ( OLT) and discussed the diagnosis of ischemia of OLT pathologically and clinically. METHODS: Liver function test, color Doppler ultrasono graphy, and hepatic arteriography were performed during the development of hepatic arteriothrombosis. Possible fac- tors for the asymptomatic process of the thrombosis were analyzed. RESULTS: On the 4th postoperative day, thrombosis form ed at the anastomotic stoma of the hepatic artery, and on the 11th postoperative day, the artery was completely oc- cluded. Serial liver biopsies revealed intrahepatic cholesta- sis, hydropic degeneration of hepatocytes, atrophy of the biliary epithelium, and fibrosis in the portal area. Monitor- ing of liver function showed nothing abnormal except ele- vation of γ-GT and ALP levels. On the 71st day after OLT, arteriography demonstrated that the hepatic artery re- mained completely occluded in addition to the establish- ment of collateral circulation and compensation of the por- tal vein. The patient didn' t show any symptoms of arterial thrombosis. CONCLUSION: Collateral circulation and compensation o the portal vein are beneficial to allograft survival and avoidence of retransplantation after thrombosis of the he- patic artery. Color Doppler ultrasonography within 2 weeks after OLT is helpful to the early diagnosis of hepatic arterio- thrombosis.

Gastrointestinal radiography (GIR) has been a major and first-choice method for diagnosing gastrointestinal diseases with barium as contrast media since its emergence in 1910, even in diagnosing the mass lesions of the organs outside gastrointestinal tract (e.g., liver, pancreas, etc) indirectly. The fiber endoscopy invented in the late 1960s can directly observe the changes on mucosal surface intraluminally and obtain biopsies as well, thus greatly improving the detection and sensitivity of small, shallow or tiny lesions originated from mucosa.

BACKGROUND: Imaging examination is important for hepatic cirrhosis. But the relationship between magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT) or ultrasound findings and pathological groups, degree, or reserve function of the cirrhotic liver is not clear. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the CT groupings of liver cirrhosis and its complications and clinical conditions. METHODS: The CT findings in 3.7 patients with liver cirrhosis were grouped. The complications were analyzed, included splenomegaly, varicose collateral veins, ascites, pleurorrhea, primary liver carcinoma, gallbladder stone, etc. Blood routine (BRt), and serum usea nitrogen (SUN), creatinine and uric acid were measured and hypersplenia and liver-kidney syndrome were estimated. RESULTS: Three hundred and fifty-seven patients with cirrhosis were divided into homogeneous group (87 patients, 24.4%), segmental group (41, 11.5%), and nodal group (229, 64.2%). The grade of spleen enlargement in the segmental and the nodal groups was significantly greater than that in the homogeneous group (P 3.), respectively. Significant difference was observed among the 3.groups ( P 3.) of the homogeneous group (P<0.001). Sixty-eight patients (29.7%) in the nodal group had primary liver carcinoma and 1 (2.4%) in the segmental group and 5 (5.8%) in the homogeneous group (P<0.001). The number of patients with decreased concentration of hematoglobin in the nodal group was more than that in the homogeneous group ( P < 0. 001). The mean values of hematoglobin and platelet in the nodal group and the segmental group were significantly lower than those in the homogeneous group ( P < 0. 05 ). The number of
