Photosynthetic characteristics of dominant tree species and canopy in the broadleaved Korean pine forest of Changbai Mountains

Based on the light-photosynthesis response measurement at leaf level, combined with over- and under-canopy eddy covariance measurements, research on photosynthetic characteristics of single trees and forest canopy was conducted. The relationship between light intensity and photo-synthetic rates for leaves and canopy can be well fitted by a non-rectangular hyperbola model. Mongolian oak presented a high light compensation point, Lcp (2.μmol·m-2.s-1), a light saturation point Lsp (>1800μmol·m-2.s-1), and a maximal net photosynthetic rate Pmax (9.96μmol·m-2.s-1), which suggest that it is a typical heliophilous plant. Mono maple presented the highest apparent quantum efficiencyα(0.066) but the lowest, Lcp (16μmol·m-2.s-1), Lsp (=800μmol·m-2.s-1), and Pmax (4.51μmol·m-2.s-1), which suggest that it is heliophilous plant. Korean pine showed the lowestαvalue but a higher Pmax, which suggest that it is a semi-heliophilous plant. At the canopy level, the values of both or and Pmax approached the upper limit of reported values in temperate forests, while Lcp was within the lower limit. Canopy photosynthetic characteristics were well consistent with those of leaves. Both showed a high ability to photosynthesize. However, environmental stresses, especially high vapor pressure deficits, could significantly reduce the photosynthetic ability of leaves and canopy.

At the hypothesis of big leaf, an ecosystem photosynthesis-transpiration coupling cycle model was established by the scaled SMPT-SB model from single leaf to canopy, and model parameterization methods were discussed. Through simulating the canopy light distribution, canopy internal conductance to CO2.can be scaled from single leaf to canopy by integrating to canopy using the relationship between single internal conductance and photosynthetic photon flux density. Using the data observed by eddy covariance method from the Changbai Mountains site of ChinaFLUX, the application of the model at the canopy scale was examined. Under no water stress, the simulated net ecosystem photosynthesis rate fitted with the observed data very well, the slope and R2.of the line regression equation of the observed and simulated values were 0.7977 and 0.8892. respectively (n = 752., and average absolute error was 3.78 μmol CO2.m-2.-1; the slope, R2.and average absolute error of transpiration rate were 0.73.4, 0.43.5 and 1.60mmol H2. m-2.s-1, respectively (n = 752.. The relationship between canopy photosynthesis,transpiration and external environmental conditions was discussed by treating the canopy as a whole and neglecting the comprehensive feedback mechanism within canopy, and it was noted that the precipitation course affected the transpiration rate simulation badly. Compared to the models based on eco-physiological processes, the SMPT-SB model was simple and easy to be used. And it can be used as a basic carbon and water coupling model of soil-plant-atmosphere continuum.

Since then we have made another interesting discovery of a nannofossil assemblage from the same foraminifera-bearing bed in the cores S1 S2 S3S4 S5 S6 X2 and T7 by which further discussion on the stratigraphy and paleoclimatology is facilitated (see Fig. 1).

Effects of Soil Matric Potential on Tomato Growth Under Drip Irrigation of Soda Alkali-saline Soils

Thermal history of the Sichuan basin is reconstructed based on vitrinite reflectance from boreholes in the basin using a paleo-heat flow *** results show that the Sichuan basin experienced a relatively low heat flow period in the Early Paleozoic,and an elevated paleo-heat flow,ranging 60-80 mW/m with a maximum as high as 100 mW/m around 2.9 Ma,from the beginning of the Late Paleozoic to the end of the early Permian,and a decreased paleo-heat flow from the late Permian to the late Triassic,and then maintained nearly stable to the *** Late Paleozoic paleo-heat flow was quite high where there were extensive Emeishan flood basalts or concealed basalts which erupted between the early and the late Permian,such as the southwestern and northeastern areas of the Sichuan *** to the distribution of paleo-heat flow,it can be inferred that,the northeastern Sichuan basin was also influenced by the Emeishan magmatic activity during the Dongwu movement though there was lack of Emeishan flood *** addition,the results of thermal history reconstruction of the Sichuan basin provide paleogeothermal evidence for the existence and onset of the Emaishan mantle plume.

The effects of irrigation frequency and soil matric potential on to mato growth under drip irrigation in No rth China were studied. Results suggested that drip irrigation frequency and soil matric potential significantly influence the distribution of soil water. By presetting threshold of soil matric potential（-5 kPa, S1;-10 kPa, S2.-15 kPa, S3.-2. kPa, S4;-2. kPa,S5） to control the timing of the irrigation cycle with vacuum tensiometers buried at 0.2. depth immediately under drip emitter. Field experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of soil matric potential on tomato growth, y ield and irrigation water use efficiency under mulch drip irrigation in Soda Alkali -saline So ils in Jilin Province in China in the year of 2.08. The results showed that the plant height, stem circu mference, LAI, Ch lorophyll content of tomato all increased with the increasing of soil matric potential. The higher the soil matric potential was, the higher the yields and the better the characteristics were. The highest yields were achieved with the soil matric potential of -5 kPa and the irrigation water use efficiency with the soil matric potential fro m -10 kPa to -15 kPa were h igher than that of other treatments.
