Validation and Scenario Analysis of a Soil Organic Carbon Model

A model developed by the authors was validated against independent data sets. The data sets were obtained from field experiments of crop residue decomposition and a 7-year soil improvement in Yixing City, Jiangsu Province. Model validation indicated that soil organic carbon dynamics can be simulated from the weather variables of temperature, sunlight and precipitation, soil clay content and bulk density, grain yield of previous crops, qualities and quantities of the added organic matter. Model simulation in general a-greed with the measurements. The comparison between computed and measured resulted in correlation coefficient γ2.values of 0.92.1* * * (n= 48) and 0.643.* * (n = 65) for the two experiments, respectively. Model prediction under three scenarios of no additional organic matter input, with an annual incorporation of rice and wheat straw at rates of 6.75t/ha and 9.0t/ha suggested that the soil organic carbon in Wanshi Township of Yixing City would be from an initial value of 7.85g/kg in 1983.to 6.3.g/kg, 11.42./kg and 13./kg in 2.14, respectively. Consequently, total nitrogen content of the soil was predicted to be respectively 0.49g/kg, 0.89g/kg and 1.01g/kg under the three scenarios.

Stilbene glycoside(TSG)has been shown to have many beneficial *** is therefore essential to understand the absorption and metabolism of TSG in *** determined the recovery of TSG and its metabolites(TSG sulfate/glucuronides)in rat gastric contents,gastric mucosa,portal vein plasma,celiac arterial plasma,bile,and urine after administration of 15 mg of TSG in 0.5 mL physiological saline or incubation for 2. min in situ in the stomach of *** 2. min,(64.0±9.8)% of the administered TSG disappeared from the stomach;later,TSG was recovered in both free and conjugated forms in plasma and bile,but not in *** the other hand,only free TSG was detected in the gastric contents and mucosa;it was also detected in the portal vein plasma as(48.1±3.5)% of the total TSG(all forms of TSG).However,the proportion of free TSG in the celiac arterial plasma and bile decreased to 4%-10%.In addition,the proportion of free TSG to total TSG in the liver microsome incubation mixture after TSG was incubated in liver microsome at 3. ℃ for 3. min was very low [(10.6 ± 2.6)%].These results indicate that TSG could be quickly absorbed from the rat stomach,conjugated in liver and excreted in *** novel information would be helpful for the use of TSG as a beneficial natural product which may improve its proposed efficacy in preventing chronic diseases.

A full length cDNA encoding the growth hormone receptor (GHR) of chinese sturgeon was cloned in order to investigate the mechanism of growth hormone in regulating the growth of chinese sturgeon. The open reading frame of the cloned chinese sturgeon growth hormone receptor (csGHR) cDNA encodes a trans-membrane protein of 611 amino acids containing all the characteristic motifs of GHR. By sequence alignment, substitutions of amino acid residues highly conserved in other species were identified. Using the CHO cell culture system, the function of csGHR and the biological significance of the amino acid substitution in csGHR were examined. The promoter of serine protease inhibitor 2.1 (Spi2.1) was trans-activated upon stimulation of seabream GH (sbGH) in the csGHR-expressing CHO cells. Furthermore, CHO cells stably expressing csGHR were stimulated to proliferate by sbGH. In agreement with our previous report, chinese sturgeon growth hormone-binding protein (csGHBP) was detected in the culture medium of CHO cells stably expressing csGHR. Mutation of Asp residue in the ligand binding motif in csGHR to Glu significantly enhanced csGHR's biological function, whereas mutation of Asp residue to Ala decreased its biological function. The results demonstrated that the cloned csGHR was of full biological function and the csGHBP could be generated through proteolysis of csGHR. These findings might provide new insights into thoroughly understanding the regulatory mechanism of chinese sturgeon growth.

Analysis on Temporal and Spatial Changes and Driving Forces of Poverty-Stricken Areas in Hebei Province

This paper takes poverty-stricken countyas the basic unit, and selects net income per peasantto study the poverty status in Hebei Province during1986~*** and spatial changes of poverty-stricken areas are analyzed. The result shows thatpoverty-stricken areas in Hebei Province distributedconcentratedly and the areas decreased during1986~2.00, the net income per peasant was on therise with an increasing speed in off-poverty countiesbeing slightly higher than that in poverty-strickencounties, but the growth rate was extremely unstable,rising slowly in off-poverty counties while droppingin poverty-stricken counties. The main driving forcesthat influenced temporal and spatial changes wereeconomic development of the whole province,ecological environment quality, infrastructureconditions and radiation of the key city. On thisbasis, some anti-poverty countermeasures suitable tolocal conditions are proposed.
