New research progress on the ultrastructure of tectonically deformed coals

The structure of tectonically deformed coals shows some characteristics and regulations on the ultra-scale when influenced by different factors such as temperature,pressure and directional *** of the macromolecular structure may induce changes in the nano-scale pore structure,which are very important for gas adsorption and *** geological impact of different mechanisms of deformation on different types of ultrastructure of tectonically deformed coals is not only of significance as a topic for scientific research, but also in studying environments of metamorphism-deformation at differing metamorphic *** research is also very important in studying the accumulation and occurrence conditions of coalbed methane gas,mechanisms of coal and gas outbursts,predictions of coalbed methane resources and dangers of coal and gas *** paper analyzes current research,within china and other countries, in the ultrastructure of tectonically deformed *** research includes(1) structural models of tectonically deformed coals;(2) the relationship between ultrastructure and stress;(3. the structure of tectonically deformed coals and its strain *** results are also based on our own experiments including vitirnite reflectance(Ro,max),X-ray diffraction(XRD) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR(CP/MAS + TOSS)).We discuss the important effects of the structure of tectonically deformed coals and their physical properties,and then point out some problems concerning the research progress of tectonically deformed coals.

Molecular mechanism of dehydrin in response to environmental stress in plant

Dehydrins, known as the D-11 subgroup of late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) protein, are an immunologically distinct family of proteins, which typically accumulate in desiccation-tolerant seed embryo or in vegetative tissues in response to various environmental stresses such as drought, salinity and freezing. The existence of conservative sequences designated as K, S, and Y segments is a structural feature of dehydrins, and the K segment found in all dehydrins represents a highly conserved 15 amino acid motif (EKKGIMDKIKEKLPG) and forms an amphiphilicα-helix. According to the arrangement of these domains and clustering analysis, dehydrins are subdivided into 5 subtypes: YnSK, Kn, KnS, SKn and YnK. Different types of dehydrins are induced by different environmental stress in plants. Study results showed that dehydrins might play important protective roles under abiotic stress via a number of different mechanisms, including improving or protecting enzyme activities by the cryoprotective activity in responding to freeze/thaw or dehydration; stabilizing vesicles or other endomembrane structures by function as the membrane stabilizer during freeze induced dehydration, and preventing the membrane system from the oxidative damage induced by reactive oxygen radicals as the radical scavenger. Here, the gene expression and molecular mechanisms of dehydrin in response to stress in plants are discussed.

Existence of unbiased estimate of regression parameters in simple linear EV models

It is well known that for one-dimensional normal EV regression model X = x+ u,Y =α+βx+e, where x, u, e are mutually independent normal variables and Eu=Ee=0, the regression parameters a and β are not identifiable without some restriction imposed on the parameters. This paper discusses the problem of existence of unbiased estimate for a and β under some restrictions commonly used in practice. It is proved that the unbiased estimate does not exist under many such restrictions. We also point out one important case in which the unbiased estimates of a and β exist, and the form of the MVUE of a and β are also given.

An Efficient High-Resolution Shock-Capturing Scheme for Multi-Dimensional Flows I. Hydrodynamics

Many problems at the forefront of theoretical astrophysics require a treatment of dynamical fluid behavior. We present an efficient high-resolution shock-capturing hydrodynamic scheme designed to study such phenomena. We have implemented a weighted, essentially non-oscillatory （WENO） scheme to fifth order accuracy in space, lILLE approximate Riemann solver is used for the flux computation at cell interface, which does not require spectral decomposition into characteristic waves and so is computationally friendly. For time integration we apply a third order total variation diminishing （TVD） Runge-Kutta scheme. Extensive testing and comparison with schemes that *** characteristic decomposition are carried out demonstrating the ability of our scheme to address challenging open questions in astrophysics.

We shall prove the equivalences of a non-degenerate circle-preserving map and a M(o)bius transformation in ^Rn, of a non-degenerate geodesic-preserving map and an isometry in Hn of a non-degenerate line-preserving map and an affine transformation in Rn. That a map is non-degenerate means that the image of the whole space under the map is not a circle, or geodesic or line respectively. These results hold without either injective or surjective, or even continuous assumptions, which are new and of a fundamental nature in geometry.

Comparison of dynamic changes in endogenous hormones and sugars between abnormal and normal Castanea mollissima

To elucidate the possible functions of endogenous hormones in the flowering of chestnut,concentrations of four endogenous hor-mones[indole-3.acetic acid(IAA),gibberellic acid(GA),abscisic acid(ABA),zeatin riboside(ZR))and the soluble sugars content were measured in both normal and developmentally abnormal chinese chestnut(Castanea mollissima)during flowering and fruiting *** results showed that the contents of ZR,ABA,and GA exhibited a significant dierent pattern in normal trees from that in abnormal trees,while the contents of IAA and soluble sugars showed a similar change pattern between *** results suggest that quantitative changes in endogenous hormones may correspond to dierent flowering and fruiting mechanisms.

The ecosystem in northeastern china and the Russian Far East is a hotspot of scientific research into the global carbon *** aboveground biomass(AGB) is an important component in the land surface carbon *** this study,using forest inventory data and forest distribution data,the AGB was estimated for forest in Daxinganlin in northeastern china by combining charge-coupled device(CCD) data from the Small Satellite for Disaster and Environment Monitoring and Forecast(HJ-1) and Geoscience Laser Altimeter System(GLAS) waveform data from the Ice,Cloud and land Elevation Satellite(ICESat).The forest AGB prediction models were separately developed for different forest types in the research area at GLAS footprint level from GLAS waveform parameters and field survey plot biomass in the Changqing(CQ) Forest Center,which was calculated from forest inventory *** resulted statistical regression models have a R2=0.68 for conifer and R2=0.71 for broadleaf *** models were used to estimate biomass for all GLAS footprints of forest located in the study *** GLAS footprint biomass coupled with various spectral reflectivity parameters and vegetation indices derived from HJ-1 satellite CCD data were used in multiple regression analyses to establish biomass prediction models(R2=0.55 and R2=0.52 for needle and broadleaf respectively).Then the models were used to produce a forest AGB map for the whole study area using the HJ-1 *** data obtained from forest inventory data of the Zhuanglin(ZL) Forest Center were used as independent field measurements to validate the AGB estimated from HJ-1 CCD data(R2=0.71).About 80% of biomass samples had an error less than 20 t ha-1,and the mean error of all validation samples is 5.74 t *** pixel-level biomass map was then stratified into different biomass levels to illustrate the AGB spatial distribution pattern in this *** was found that HJ-1 wide-swath data and GLAS waveform data can be combined to estim

Periodicity of Retzius lines in fossil Pongo from South china

Periodicity of Retzius lines is a key factor in dental development. In this study, we examined the periodicity of Retzius lines in fossil Pongo from South china using polarized light microscope observation of dental ground sections. The periodicities all of the 15 teeth were 9 d. Comparisons of periodicity were made with extant primates, fossil apes and hominins. Periodicity of fossil Pongo from South china was relatively long but fell within the variation of extant Pongo, Gorilla and modern human, and longer than periodicity of Pan and other extant primates. Fossil Pongo from South china was similar to Lufengpithecus and Sivapithecus, shorter than Gigantopithecus and longer than European and African fossil apes and most early hominins in periodicity. Generally, the periodicities of Asian large-body fossil apes were longer than the periodicities of European and African large-body fossil apes in Miocene. Difference among species and trend of evolution in periodicity were analyzed and discussed. We found that periodicity might gradually increase from Proconsul in early Miocene to several fossil apes in Miocene and then Gigantopithecus in Pleistocene. In addition, this study made correlate analysis between periodicity and body mass respectively in males and females of six extant apes and five fossil apes, and found that periodicity positively correlated with body mass.
