EXPERIMENT OF IMPACT OF RIVER HYDRAULIC CHARACTERISTICS ON NUTRIENTS PURIFICATION COEFFICIENT

Hydraulic characteristics of a river are the key factors for river water quality improvement and river restoration. A simulated river was exploited to study the interactions between water contaminant purification coefficients and the characteristics of the river, such as the cross-section velocity, water depth, Reynolds number, and Froude number. To enhance the purification capacity of the river, detritus with 5 mm to 10 mm in diameter and contact surface area per volume of 87.6 m^2/m^3.were constructed naturally at the bed and along one side of the bank to form half shape of the river cross-section. During the one-month experiment （including 3.periods） from the third of November to the fourth of December, 2005, three categories of hydraulic conditions were investigated. Results show that the purification coefficient （K） of Total Nitrogen （TN） is closely coherent with the hydraulic retention time （T）, river length （L）, Reynolds number （Re） and Froude number （Fr）. The relationship of K and T generally agrees with the power law under the three experimental water hydraulic conditions. Based on these results, the optimal Re and Fr ranges can be obtain to serve as a guideline for ecological re-engineering design to improve river water quality and restore river ecosystem.

Subsidence control and farmland conservation by solid backfilling mining technology

Solid backfilling mining technology, which decreases the height of fissure zone and caving zone, and alleviates the subsidence, is a new technology for farmland conservation. Based on the situation analysis of farmland destruction in mining area, three ways for farmland protection were proposed. In order to improve the feasibility of this technology, the limited filling materials should be used to increase resources recovery ratio, and then the surplus materials could be backfilled into goaf. An index, namely farmland conservation ability, was put forward to optimize the ways for farmland conservation. At last, the Wanbei coal mine was taken as a case for farmland conservation. It was shown that 3.40 t dull coal was substituted and 52 hm2 farmland was conserved by solid backfilling mining in this coal mine.

Solid backfilling mining can reduce the buildings' damage caused by mining greatly. The reduction of subsidence value, the slow advancing speed and the subsidence caused by backfilling body compaction are the main reasons that solid backfilling mining velocity decreases significantly. Based on the research of mechanism, some principles on subsidence control of solid backfilling mining under buildings were proposed. The equivalent mining height was designed according to the fortification criteria of buildings and their attachment structures, which enables the ground movement and deformation caused by mining to be less than the corresponding fortification criteria.

A New 1×K Tunable Multi-wavelength Router and its Features

Tunable wavelength routers (TWRs) for multiple wavelength selection are key devices in dynamic wavelength-routing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. In this paper, by cascading conventional 2×2 TWRs, a new 1×K TWR is proposed for large-scale dynamic wavelength-routing WDM networks. When the cascading numbers are smaller, the 1×K TWR can be directly applied to networking WDM networks. When the cascading numbers are larger, the 1×K TWR can be carried out by the integrating method and be extensively used to networking various multi-wavelength optical networks by the way of "EDFA+TWR". Though the cascading method proposed is based on the acousto-optic TWRs, it can be also applied to cascading other kinds of TWRs.

Nonverbal and noncontact behaviors play a significant role in allowing service robots to structure their interactions *** this paper, a novel human-mimic mechanism of robot’s navigational skills was proposed for developing sociallyacceptable robotic *** on the sociological and physiological concerns of interpersonal interactions in movement,several criteria in navigation were represented by constraints and incorporated into a unified probabilistic cost grid for safemotion planning and control, followed by an emphasis on the prediction of the human’s movement for adjusting the robot’spre-collision navigational *** human motion prediction utilizes a clustering-based algorithm for modeling humans’indoor motion patterns as well as the combination of the long-term and short-term tendency prediction that takes into accountthe uncertainties of both velocity and heading *** simulation and real-world experiments verified the effectivenessand reliability of the method to ensure human’s safety and comfort in navigation.A statistical user trials study was also given tovalidate the users’favorable views of the human-friendly navigational behavior.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was first used for the characterization of polyfuran (PFu) films that had been formed electrochemically on an Au electrode. The polyfuran was measured in high oxidation state, intermediate oxidation state and reduction state, respectively. As the oxidation level is increased, the ionic conductivity of PFu/BF4- increases. And impedance studies on PFu show that the anion BF4- appears to be mobile with a high diffusion coefficient of approximately 10(-8) cm(2).s(-1).

The component codes of turbo product codes in WiMAX systems are extended Hamming codes and single parity check codes as well as their shortened forms, In this paper, three novel iterative decoding algorithms based on Chase, MAP algorithms and their combination are proposed for shortened-extended turbo product codes. The iterative decoding algorithm based on Chase algorithm is proposed to reduce the decoding complexity without any performance loss. An efficient MAP algorithm is then proposed to decode the component codes of shortened single parity check codes and shortened-extended Hamming codes. A comprehensive performance comparison of the proposed decoding schemes is conducted for three typical classes of turbo product codes in WiMAX OFDMA systems. The suitable decoding algorithms are recommended for different classes based on the simulation results.

Reduced-order output feedback controllers for the robust H^(∞) performance problem

OVER the last decade, the H~∞ control has been recognized as one of the most effective tools for robust control. A lot of researches have been devoted to robust H~∞ problems for uncertain systems. Recently, Zhou et al., presented the notion of strongly robust H~∞ performance, which is an extension of quadratic stability and equivalent to robust H~∞ problem. However. only state-feedback controllers were discussed.

Water in peridotite xenoliths from South china

The water contents of nominally anhydrous clinopyroxene （cpx）, orthopyroxene （opx） and olivine （ol） in peridotite xenoliths hosted by Cenozoic basalts from Yingfengling, Zhangchouchun, Fujitian and Lindi, South china, were measured by Micro- FTIR. All cpx and opx grains contained a certain amount of water, which was indicated by the presence of hydroxyls in the crystal structure. The water contents （H20, ppm） of cpx and opx from peridotite xenoliths of the study areas were 293.981, 183.752, 73.586 and 51-423.ppm, and 82-471, 74-571, 53.170 and 9-13. ppm, respectively. No prominent OH absorption bands were detected for any ol grains, indicating that the water contents were below the detection limit （approximately 2 ppm）. The entire rock contents recalculated according to mineral volume proportions were 49-163. 48-168, 21-111 and 8-40 ppm, respectively. Combined with previously reported data describing the water contents of peridotite xenoliths worldwide, the results presented here suggest that water distribution in the continental lithospheric mantle is spatially heterogeneous at a global scale. The lithospheric mantle of South china is much richer in water than that of the North china Craton, and is close to that typical of off-craton localities, such as the Basin and Range Province, and Massif Central.
