Proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) analysis of sources of porcelain body of Ru Guan and Jun Guan porcelains

3. samples of Ru Guan porcelain body and 50 samples of Jun Guan porcelain body (both kinds being in different body colors) were selected with the purpose of finding out the source of raw materials and their classification relationship so as to search for ways of non-destructive discrimination. Proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE) has been applied to these samples to determine their chemical elements. The data of seven major chemical elements collected from these samples were further studied through fuzzy cluster analysis. Results indicate that the origin of raw materials of Jun Guan porcelain body samples is comparatively more concentrated in certain places, while that of Ru Guan porcelain body samples is scattered about. The places of origin of raw materials of the majority of Ru Guan and Jun Guan porcelain body samples have something in common, but some differences still exist. It might be an important way for non-destructive discrimination among Ru Guan and Jun Guan porcelains by combining PIXE with fuzzy cluster analysis.

The theories of synchronization based on secure communications using digital chaos are presented. A new synchronous method-cycles-interval Pulse drive is developed and realized. Experimental results show it is available, and in order to reduce synchronous noise, a method using model references solves the ratio of signal power to noise power, so the secure communication system can be realized.

An equilibrium equation for the turbulence energy in sediment-laden flows was derived on the basis of solid–liquid two-phase flow theory. The equation was simplified for two-dimensional, uniform, steady and fully developed turbulent hyperconcentrated flows. An energy efficiency coefficient of suspended-load motion was obtained from the turbulence energy equation, which is defined as the ratio of the sediment suspension energy to the turbulence energy of the sediment-laden flows. Laboratory experiments were conducted to investigate the characteristics of energy dissipation in hyperconcentrated flows. A total of 115 experimental runs were carried out, comprising 70 runs with natural sediments and 45 runs with cinder powder. Effects of sediment concentration on sediment suspension energy and flow resistance were analyzed and the relation between the energy efficiency coefficient of suspended-load motion and sediment concentration was established on the basis of experimental data. Furthermore, the characteristics of energy dissipation in hyperconcentrated flows were identified and described. It was found that the high sediment concentration does not increase the energy dissipation; on the contrary, it decreases flow resistance.

The Theory of Relativity on the Finsler Spacetime

According to some local properties of Lorentz transformation, Einstein stated: 'Vetheitiss greater than that of light have no possibility of existence.' He neglected to point out the applicable range of the special theory of relativity. In fact, it could only be applied to the subluminal-speeds. This paper shows that if ones think of the possibility of the existence of the superluminal-speeds and redescribe the special theory of relativity following Einstein's way, it could be supposed that the physical spacetime is a Finsler spacetime, characterized by the metric ds4=gijkldxidxidxkdxl. If so, a new spactime transformation could be found by invariant ds4 and the theory of relativity is discussed on this transformation it is possible that the Finsler spacetime F(x,y) may be endowed with a catastrophic nature. Based on the different properties between the ds2 and ds4, it is discussed that the flat spacetime will also have the catastrophic nature on the Finsler metric ds4. The spacetime transformations and the Physical quantities will suddenly change at the catastrophe set of the spacetime, the light cone. It will be supposed that only the dual velocity of the superluminal-speeds could be observed. If so, a particle with the superluminal-speed v> c could be regarded as its anti-particle with the dual velocity v1=c2/ v< c. On the other hand, it could be assumed that the horizon of the field of the general relativity is also a catastrophic set. If so, a particle with the superluminal-speeds could be projected near the horizon of these fields, and the particle will move on the sauce-like curves. It is very interesting that, in the Schwarzschild fields, the theoretical calculation for the sauce-like curves should be in agreement with tie data of the superluminal expansion of extragalactic radio sources observed year after year. Plausible impact of global climate change on water resources in the Tarim River Basin

Combining the temperature and precipitation data from 77 climatological stations and the climatic and hydrological change data from three headstreams of the Tarim River: Hotan, Yarkant, and Aksu in the study area, the plausible association between climate change and the variability of water resources in the Tarim River Basin in recent years was investigated, the long-term trend of the hydrological time series including temperature, precipitation, and streamflow was detected, and the possible association between the El Ni(n)o/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and these three kinds of time series was tested. The results obtained in this study show that during the past years, the temperature experienced a significant monotonic increase at the speed of 5%, nearly 1℃ rise; the precipitation showed a significant decrease in the 1970s, and a significant increase in the1980s and 1990s, the average annual precipitation was increased with the magnitude of 6.8 mm per decade. A step change occurred in both temperature and precipitation time series around 1986, which may be influenced by the global climate change. Climate change resulted in the increase of the streamflow at the headwater of the Tarim River, but the anthropogenic activities such as over-depletion of the surface water resulted in the decrease of the streamflow at the lower reaches of the Tarim River. The study result also showed that there is no significant association between the ENSO and the temperature, precipitation and streamflow.

Plastic deformation behaviors of Zr65Al10Ni10Cu15 and Zr52.5Al10Ni10Cu15Be12.5 bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) are studied by using the depth-sensing nanoindentation, microindentation and uniaxial compression. The Be-containing BMG exhibits a signifi- cantly improved overall plastic strain compared with the Be-free alloy during compressive tests. Both BMGs show a loading-rate-dependent serrated flow during nanoindentation measurements, but the Be-containing alloy exhibits a much lower critical loading rate for the disappearance of the serration than the Be-free BMG. The shear band patterns de- veloped during plastic deformation are investigated by microindentation technique, wherein much higher shear band density is found in the Be-containing alloy than in the Be-free alloy, indicating an easier nucleation of shear bands in the former BMG. The dif- ference in the plastic deformation behavior of the two BMGs can be explained by a free volume model.
