Prevention of pathological change and cognitive degeneration of Tg2576 mice by inoculating Aβ_(1-15) vaccine

This study aims to discuss the effect of preventing pathological changes and cognitive degeneration of Tg2576 mice by inoculating the subunit fragment of Aβ ***-two Tg2576 mice were randomly divided into four groups, each having eight mice:Group I, the control group, inoculated with adjuvants;Group II, the Aβ42 group, inoculated with Aβ42 vaccine;Group Ⅲ, the Aβ1―15 group, inoculated with Aβ1―15 vaccine;and Group IV, the Aβ3.―42 group, inoculated with Aβ3.―42 *** titer of the serum anti-body against Aβ42(Group II) was significantly higher than that of the control group(Group I), and a low level of antibodies could be detected in the brain homogenate in the three vaccine-inoculated *** water maze test showed that the Aβ42 group, Aβ1―15 group and Aβ3.―42 group were obviously im-proved compared with the control *** cultured splenocytes sampled from each group were induced by Con A or their respective antigens, and the cell proliferation of the three vaccine-inoculated groups was significantly higher than that of the control *** the Aβ42 group, IL2 and IFN-γ were relatively low and IL4 and IL10 were relatively *** contrast, IL4 and IL10 were much higher in the Aβ1―15 group and IL2 and IFN-γ were much higher in the Aβ3.―42 *** immunohistochemical test showed a large number of senile plaques in the brain cortex and hippocampus of the mice in the con-trol group, no senile plaque in the brain of the Aβ1―15 group and Aβ42 group mice, and a small number of senile plaques in the brain of the Aβ3.―42 group *** results suggest that the subunit fragment of Aβ1―15 vaccine could prevent not only cognitive and behavioral degeneration but also Aβ deposition and formation of senile plaques in Tg2576 mice.

In this paper, a new ergodic property analysis model of hydrological process is proposed based on fuzzy-rough c-means clustering (FRCM), autocorrelogram, and fuzzy least absolute regression (FLAR). A precipitation time series (1951―2004) from Shanghai Hydrology Station is then analyzed with the model. The results show that the precipitation time series of April, May, June, and September has er-godic property. We conclude that in the long run, the precipitation of April, May, June, and September will not keep decreasing; it will converge to its mean value in some period.

Large-scale information entropy analysis of important sites in mature and precursor miRNA sequences

In order to find evidence of consistent sequence conservation or the base correlation degree in miRNA,some important sites in the sequences of reported miRNA and their precursors(pre-miRNA) were investigated via information entropy *** different groups of sites were obtained from special locations(head,tail) in miRNAs of different sources according to taxonomy(animal,plant and virus) and then analyzed by measuring the single base information redundancy(D1(L)) and the adjacent base related information redundancy(D2(L)).The results showed that D2(L) has more information than D1(L),though D1(L) changes roughly consistently with D2(L) in each *** pre-miRNAs are more conservative than those belonging to animals or *** addition,U is dominant in most sites compared with other *** was also found that in the middle of several groups,there were sites where miRNAs were cut down from pre-miRNAs by Enzyme Dicer which were significantly *** phenomenon shows that the conservatism is an aspect of the of miRNA and may be involved in the recognition and cutting by the *** results provided another perspective for understanding more about the primary structure of pre-miRNA.

Here we report new approaches of recovering the Earth gravitational field from GOCE (Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer) gradiometric data with the help of the gradient tensor’s invariants. Our results only depend on GOCE satellite’s position and gradiometry, in other words, they are completely independent of the satellite attitude. First, starting from the invariants, linearization models are established, which can be referred as the general boundary conditions on the satellite’s orbit. Then, the spherical approximation expressions for the models are derived, and the corresponding solving methods for them are discussed. Furthermore, considering effects of J2-term, the spherical approximation models are improved so that the accuracies of the boundary conditions can be theoretically raised to O ( J 2/2 T), which is approximately equivalent to O(T2). Finally, some arithmetic examples are constructed from EGM96 model based on the derived theories, and the computational results illustrate that the spherical models have accuracies of 10-7 and the order recovering the gravitational field can reach up to 200, and the models with regard to effect of J2-term have accuracies of 10-8 and the order can reach up to 280.

Energy is now becoming the bottleneck of urban and regional development. The paper takes Shandong Province, one of the most energy consuming provinces in china, as an example, uses quantity methods such as SPSS (Stastics Package for Social Science) cluster sampling and regression analysis, and applies quantity analysis, to analyze the situation of energy issues in Shandong province. The conflicts between the quick industrialization and increasing extensive economic development, between urban population and energy consuming per head, between the infinite energy consuming desire and the low level of managing system, and between the unstable world energy supply and the limited energy storage in china are the main factors of energy crisis in Shandong, which not only results in energy shortage, but also becomes the barrier of economic and social development. In order to ensure sufficient energy supply for Shandong province in the 21st century, we should take countermeasures, such as changing the economic development model, pursuing a multiple and high quality energy strategy, improving the intensive urbanization strategy, and building a scientific energy system.

By employing the fixed point theorem of cone expansion and compression of norm type, we investigate the existence of positive solutions of generalized Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems for a nonlinear singular differential equation with a parameter. Some sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions are established. In the last section, an example is presented to illustrate the applications of our main results.

The genome oiganization and expression strategy of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) have been described extensively. As a structural glycoprotein on the virion surface, the spike protein is responsible for binding to host cellular receptors and for the fusion between the viral envelope and the cellular membrane. It also induces neutralizing antibodies in the host and mediates cellular immunity. Previous studies suggested that amino acid replacements in the spike protein coulddramatically alter the pathogenesis and virulence of some coronaviruses. It is therefore reasonable to test the hypothesis that radical amino acid replacements in the spike protein, favored by environmental selective pressure during the process of SARS-CoV interspecific transmission, might make this pathogen adapt to a new host, In this study, we investigated a total of 108 complete sequences of the SARS-CoV S gene from Gen-Bank (until March 23. 2004). After omission of those records containing frame-shift mutations or low quality sequences, e.g. ZJ01, and selection of one sequence for identical records, an alignment of 42 sequences was obtained using the program Clustal-X. Then, we reconstructed the most recent common ancestor (MRCA) sequences of theSARS-CoV S gene and detected the adaptive evolution in the spike protein.

Homochirality in life has always been a driving force in scientific research and natural exploration. It has not been satisfactorily explained, and systematic investigations are necessary. This paper reported a homochiral expression of proteins dependent on the stirring direction of growing media. By controlling the stirring direction clockwise (CW) and anticlockwise (ACW) of the culture medium, proteins with distinct secondary structures were obtained, and D-amino acid may be included in the protein cultured with the stirring direction of ACW. Considering the effect of force fields, which might affect the process of folding and refolding of cellular protein in this report, the control of force fields might be a good way to prepare asymmetric drugs, and the rotational direction of the earth is possibly related to the chirality in primitive life molecules.
