Objective To investigate the histological changes of rapid tooth movement in dogs treated by resistance reduction and distraction osteogenesis,aiming to establish an animal model and further to reveal the remodeling mechanism of rapid tooth movement. Methods A total of 8 local hybrid dogs were selected as subjects for this study. The second pre-molar was extracted on both sides. The experimental side underwent alvelor surgery for resistance reduction and a home-made tooth-borne intraoral distraction device was installed for rapid tooth movement,while for the other side (control side) only tooth-borne intraoral distraction device was used for rapid tooth movement. The longest active force-delivery span was 2 weeks,followed by 6-week retention. The distance between the moved tooth and anchor unit was recorded weekly,and radiography was performed for each side before and after distraction. The surrounding tissues including periodontal ligament and alveolar bone were sectioned for histological analysis. Results The average distance of tooth movement was 3.55mm on the experimental side and 1.11mm on the control side. The rate of tooth movement was notably higher (P<0.01) and no significant apical root resorption was detected by X-ray on the experimental side. The active alvelor bone remodeling was found on the tension and pressure sides. However,there was no significant difference between the experimental side and the control side after the retention period. Conclusion The rate of orthodontic tooth movement can be accelerated through resistance reduction and periodontal distraction without any unfavorable effects but at minimal anchorage loss.

Distinct actions of intermittent and sustained β-adrenoceptor stimulation on cardiac remodeling

Metabolic information obtained by proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (1H-MRSI) has been approved to be a powerful tool to identify either benign or malignant glioma, as well as to confirm the tumor level. However, 1H-MRSI data are affected by various factors, such as the thermal noise, eddy currents, susceptibility artifacts, and rigid body motion. To get accurate quantitative metabolic information, the key problem is to assess the 1H-MRSI data quality. In this paper, we introduce a new evaluating system to filter the data, and a new method, called wavelet denoising method, to improve the data quality under the evaluating system. Experimental results on 1H-MRSI glioma data demonstrate that preprocessing is prerequisite and the proposed algorithm with evaluating system is effective.

Current serum neutralization assays based on the inhibition of the cytopathic effect（Nt-CPE） need to ma nipulate live viruses, which are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and have the potential exposure to infectious agents, so a safe and objective assay via pseudovirus for the fast and efficient detection of enterovirus 71（EV71） neutralizing antibodies was developed. First, we generated EV71 pseudovirus containing firefly luciferase gene in place of the capsid gene P1 in EV71 genome. Vero cells infected with 200 CCID50（50% cell culture infective dose） of EV71 pseudovirus for 24 h were found to have the best performance. Seval sera were measured by EV71 pseudoparticle neutralization assay（Nt-PPN） and the conventional serological method Nt-CPE. Neutralizing antibody titers measured by Nt-PPN and those obtained by Nt-CPE demonstrate a high correlation between the two methods. Overall, the PPN assay represents a valid alternative to conventional serological methods for the evaluation of EV71 neutralizing anti bodies. This method can be used for detecting neutralizing antibodies of other picornaviruses, such as hepatitis A vi rus（HAV） and coxsackievirus 16（CVA16）, and make it possible to determine whether there is cross-reactivity be tween EV71 and CVA16.

The Role of Surfactant and Costabilizer in Controlling Size of Nanocapsules Containing TEGDMA in Miniemulsion

Nanocapsules with triethylene glycol dimethacrylate （TEGDMA） as core material and polyurethane as wall material used for self-healing bonding resin were prepared by interfacial polycondensation in miniemulsion. The influence of surfactant and costabilizer concentration on nanocapsules size and stability of nanocapsules was investigated. The size and its polydispersity of the nanocapsules were measured by light-scattering particle size analyzer. When the concentration of SDS were increased from 2.5wt% to 10wt%,the size decreases from 3.0.5 nm to 258.3.nm, PDI decreased from 0.210 to 0.111. As the concentration of HD increased, the size and PDI were both decreased, When reaching 10wt%,the size was 258.0 nm,PDI was 0.13.. SDS and HD play important effect in synthesis of Nanocapsules containing *** changing the surfactant and costabilizer concentration it was possible to synthesize a wide variety of nanocapsules sizes. The performance and technical parameters of nanocapsules had been researched preliminarily, which built the solid foundation for the application to the self-repairing bonding resin.

Phylogeographic analysis of human papillomavirus 58

Human papillomavirus 58 (HPV58) is one type of HPV with high risk of causing cervical cancer. Unusually high prevalence of HPV58 has been reported in Asia, Africa and some other areas. However, due to the scattered distribution of global data, in addition to the lack of data of some HPV58 high-incidence nations and regions, like china's Mainland, a comprehensive analysis of the global geographical distribution of HPV58 remains blank so far. In this study, HPV58 from the human cervical cancer tissue was detected in china's Mainland, and 14 new HPV58-E6/L1 gene sequences were obtained. Moreover, phylogeographic analysis has been conducted combining the HPV58 sequences that have been deposited in GenBank since 1985. The study result shows that the sequences detected from the Shanghai, Jiangsu and Sichuan areas are homologous with those found in the past from Hong Kong and Xi'an, china, as well as Japan and other Southeast Asian areas. Furthermore, Western Africa is considered to be the "root" source of the HPV58 variant, while china's Mainland and Southeast Asia are "transit points" and the new sources of HPV58 after receiving the isolates from the "root" source; like HPV16 and HPV18, the HPV58 might also be one of the major HPV types associated with the development and spread of cervical cancer.

Molecular Targets of Combined Natural Antioxidants Against Diabetes in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Mice

Natural antioxidants, due to the different chemical structures and their unique biological protection effects on islet cell, have been received much attention in applied chemistry field for developing a new diabetic drug. However, the molecular targets of the islet cell protection have been remained obscure. For investigating molecular targets of combined natural antioxidant’s（CNA） roles in against diabetes, type 1 diabetic mouse model was made by multiple injection of low doses of streptozotocin into C57BL mice. Two combinations of natural antioxidants were orally supplemented to the mice. Blood glucose level, glutathione peroxidase（GSH-Px） and superoxide dismutase （SOD） activities, and malondialdehyde（MDA） contents were measured via biochemical assays. Tumor necrosis factor α（TNF-α）, interferon γ（IFN-γ） and Interleukin-12（IL-12） in CD4＋ Peripheral blood mononuclear cells（PBMC） were evaluated with flow cytometry（FCM）. In situ hybridization（ISH） and immunohistochemistry（IHC） were used to detect insulin gene expression. The results demonstrate both the combinations significantly： increased GSH-px and SOD, but decreased MDA levels in pancreas（p〈0.05―0.01）; up-regulated insulin expression at both mRNA and protein levels in islet cells（p〈0.05―0.01）; down-regulated TNF-α and IL-12 expression in PBMC（p〈0.05―0.01）. Our data suggest that the CAN may regulate multiple key molecular targets related to β cell function, including reduction of oxidative stress and pre-inflammatory cytokines, and upregulate insulin gene expression to reduce the development of diabetes.
