The (β-cyclodextrin (CD) dimer bridged with aspartic acid (ASP) derivative, FITC-ASP(NH-(-CD)2 (Host, FITC=fluorescein-4-isothiocyanate), was synthesized. Fluorescence polarization study showed that the novel host formed an inclusion compound, [FITC-ASP(NH-(-CD)2]ATA, for which Kd was determined to be 5.0×10-6 mol/L by Beacon 2000 Analyzer, when ATA (Guest) = Adm-Trp-Arg-Arg-NH2 (Adm = 1-adamantanecarboxylic acid, Trp = tryptophan, Arg = arginine), where Kd is the dissociation constant in aqueous solution at 298 K.

The reactions of 6-phosphononicotinic acid (pnaH3) and metal salts result in three new compounds, namely, M(pnaH)-(H2O)3·H2O [M = Co(Ⅱ) (1), Ni(Ⅱ) (2), Zn(Ⅱ) (3)]. These compounds are isostructural and contain 21 helical chains made up of corner-sharing {MO5N} octahedra and {PO3C} tetrahedra. The chains are further connected by extensive hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. Magnetic studies reveal that dominant antiferromagnetic interactions are mediated in both 1 and 2. Interestingly the dehydrated compound 1 shows metamagnetic behavior at low temperature.

Three novel coordination polymers, [Ni2(tib)2(btec)]·2H2O (1), [Co2(tib)2(btec)]·2H2O (2) and [Zn4(tib)2(btec)Cl4]·2H2O (3), have been synthesized by using mixed ligands of 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene (tib) and 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid (H4btec) under hydrothermal conditions. Complexes 1 and 2 have the same structure and are rare three-dimensional (3D) self-penetrating (3,4,5)-connected nets, while complex 3 is an unprecedented (3,4)-connected 3D net. The different structures of 1 (2) and 3 are ascribed to the distinct coordination geometry of the metal centers. The thermal stability and photoluminescence property of the complexes were investigated.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was first used for the characterization of polyfuran (PFu) films that had been formed electrochemically on an Au electrode. The polyfuran was measured in high oxidation state, intermediate oxidation state and reduction state, respectively. As the oxidation level is increased, the ionic conductivity of PFu/BF4- increases. And impedance studies on PFu show that the anion BF4- appears to be mobile with a high diffusion coefficient of approximately 10(-8) cm(2).s(-1).

Anion adsorption behavior on Au colloid surface was investigated in virture of depositing monolayers of Au colloid on the self-assembled monolayers of cysteamine on a gold electrode. Po- tential-dependent anion adsorption-desorption waves via the nonfaradaic current were obtained by means of cyclic voltammetry at Au coltoid-modified gold electrodes in the potential range of -2 00-600 mV. The adsorption sequence in the order of adsorption peak potentials (Epa) is OH- >citrate3 ->H2PO4- >Cl->SO42->ClO4->NO3-. Among them, citrate3- exhibited an en- tirely irreversible adsorption. A rise in temperature can increase the rates of adsorption-desorp- tion and improve the reversibility of the adsorption-desorption of Cl-, SO42-, ClO4-, NO3- and H2PO-4. The adsorption peak potentials shifted more negatively for Ca. 63 mV as the anion con- centrations were increased by a decade factor. The change of pH from 7 to 1 slightly affected the adsorption peak potentials of Cl- and NO3-. Au colloids with a smaller size (16 nm) gave rise to a better reversibility of the adsorption-desorption process and lower adsorption currents. The ex- perimental results of citrate ions adsorption on Au colloid surface show that Au colloids with a smaller size prepared by sodium citrate method exhibited a higher stability in the solution in com- parison to those with larger sizes because of its higher ratio of charge/mass. In other words, the smaller gold nanoparticles are covered with citrate ions monolayer that can also be formed at larg- er gold nanoparticles by means of electrochemical scan.

The X-ray crystal structures of (NH4)2(15-crown-5)3[Cu(mnt)2] (1) and(NH4)2(benzo-15-crown-5)4-[Cu(mnt)2] ident to 0.5H2O (2) were *** single crystals arecomposed of distinct structures of ammonium-crown ether supramolecular cation and [Cu(mnt)2]^(2-)*** triple-decker dication in complex 1 and a sandwich dimmer in complex 2 wereobserved.X-Band EPR studies on the single crystals of both complex 1 and complex 2 have been carriedout at room temperature,which revealed that complex 2 showed a perfect hyperfine structure of Cuwhereas that of complex 1 could not be *** principal values and direction cosines of theprincipal axes of the g and A tensors were computed by a least-squares fitting *** spindensity of Cu(ll) was estimated according to the principal values of the A tensors and compared wellwith the results calculated based on DFT method.

The supramolecular inclusion compound of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD, host) with (η5-cyclopentadienyl)tricarbonylmanganese [MnCp(CO)3, guest] was obtained in a crystalline state. The host-guest compound is thermally stable and do not liberate the guest on heating at 100$ in vacuum. It was characteried by elemental analysis,1H NMR, differential scanning thermal (DSC) analysis and TLC. Continueous variation plot by NMR method shows that β-CD formed 1:1 inclusion compound with MnCp(CO)3. On the basis of 1H NMR spectra and the model building with Corey Pauling Koltum (CPK) models, the most probable inclusion mode is proposed.

IN recent years, there has been considerable interest in the research of nonlinear optical(NLO) materials. The researches were mainly focused on semiconductors, polymers and dis-crete organic molecules. In contrast, inorganic clusters, a very promising group of com-pounds, have received little attention. It was demonstrated in our previous works thatMo(W)-Cu(Ag)-S cluster compounds exhibit strong third-order nonlinear optical properties.

A new method for preparing chemically modified gold electrode by anchoring thionine to self-assembled bi - (2 -aminoethyl) -aminodithiocarboxyl acid(BANTC) monolayers through coordination with Cu2+ is described. This thionine modified electrode exhibits two-new redox *** protons were involved in the electrochemical process undergone by the couple I in the pH range of 5.0-10.0. The apparent surface electron transfer rate constant is about 0.050s-1.
