The Pan-Eurasian Experiment Modelling Platform(PEEX-MP)is one of the key blocks of the PEEX Research *** PEEX MP has more than 30 models and is directed towards seamless envir-onmental *** main focus area is the Arctic-boreal regions and *** models used in PEEX-MP cover several main components of the earth’s system,such as the atmosphere,hydrosphere,pedosphere and biosphere,and resolve the physicalchemicalbiological processes at different spatial and temporal scales and *** paper introduces and discusses PEEX MP multi-scale modelling concept for the earth system,online integrated,forward/inverse,and socioeconomical modelling,and other approaches with a particular focus on applications in the PEEX geographical *** employed high-performance com-puting facilities,capabilities,and PEEX dataflow for modelling results are *** virtual research platforms(PEEXView,Virtual Research Environment,Web-based Atlas)for handling PEEX modelling and observational results are *** over-all approach allows us to understand better physical-chemicalbiological processes,earth’s system interactions and feedbacks and to provide valuable information for assessment studies on evaluating risks,impact,consequences,*** population,envir-onment and climate in the PEEX *** work was also one of the last projects of *** Zilitinkevich,who passed away on 15 February *** the finalization took time,the paper was actually submitted in 2023 and we could not argue that the final paper text was agreed with him.

Fast jet proper motion discovered in a blazar at z=4.72

High-resolution observations of high-redshift(z > 4) radio quasars offer a unique insight into jet kinematics at early cosmological epochs, as well as constraints on cosmological model *** to the general weakness of extremely distant objects and the apparently slow structural changes caused by cosmological time dilation, only a couple of high-redshift quasars(HRQs) have been studied with parsec-scale resolutions, and with limited number of observing epochs. Here we report on very long baseline interferometry(VLBI) observations of a high-redshift blazar J1430 + 4204(z=4.72) in the 8 GHz frequency band at five different epochs spanning 22 years. The source shows a compact core–jet structure with two jet components being identified within 3 milli-arcsecond(mas) scale. The long time span and multiple-epoch data allow for the kinematic studies of the jet components. That results in a jet proper motion of μ(J1) = 0.017 ± 0.002 mas a^-1 and μ(J2) = 0.156 ± 0.015 mas a^-1, respectively. For the fastest-moving outer jet component J2, the corresponding apparent transverse speed is (19.5 ± 1.9) *** inferred bulk jet Lorentz factor C=14.6 ± 3.8 and viewing angle θ=2.2°± 1.6°indicate highly relativistic beaming. The Lorentz factor and apparent proper motion are the highest measured to date among the z > 4 jetted radio sources, while the jet kinematics is still consistent with the cosmological interpretation of quasar redshifts.

The Effect of super Volcanic Eruptions on Ozone Depletion in a Chemistry–Climate Model

With the gradual yet unequivocal phasing out of ozone depleting substances(ODss), the environmental crisis caused by the discovery of an ozone hole over the Antarctic has lessened in severity and a promising recovery of the ozone layer is predicted in this century. However, strong volcanic activity can also cause ozone depletion that might be severe enough to threaten the existence of life on earth. In this study, a transport model and a coupled chemistry–climate model were used to simulate the impacts of super volcanoes on ozone depletion. The volcanic eruptions in the experiments were the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption and a 100 × Pinatubo size eruption. The results show that the percentage of global mean total column ozone depletion in the 2050 RCP8.5 100 × Pinatubo scenario is approximately 6% compared to two years before the eruption and 6.4% in tropics. An identical simulation, 100 × Pinatubo eruption only with natural source ODss, produces an ozone depletion of 2.5% compared to two years before the eruption, and with 4.4% loss in the tropics. Based on the model results,the reduced ODss and stratospheric cooling lighten the ozone depletion after super volcanic eruption.

A composite fall-slippage model is proposed in this study for the Tertiary sedimentary coastal cliffs of Varkala in the western coastal tract of Peninsular India which are retreating landwards due to the combination of several *** fall model in the present study accounts both spring seepage and wave action,resulting in undercutting and this fall affects only the topmost laterite and the just below sandstone in the *** in this area affects all the litho-units and hence the geologic characteristics of all the litho-units are considered for developing the slippage *** mathematically derived model can be used in other cliffs exhibiting the same morphology as well as the one controlled by the same influencing *** model differs from other models in incorporating multi-lithounits as well as *** cliffs form a part of the aspiring geopark in the global Geopark Network and hence a study on the cliff recession is a pressing requirement.

The complexity of social-ecological systems(sEs) is rooted in the outcomes of node activities connected by network topology. Thus far, in network dynamics research, the connectivity degree(CND), indicating how many nodes are connected to a given node, has been the dominant concept. However, connectivity focuses only on network topology, neglecting the crucial relation to node activities, and thereby leaving system outcomes largely unexplained. inspired by the phenomenon of ‘‘consensus of wills and coordination of activities' ' often observed in disaster risk management, we propose a new concept of network characteristic, the consilience degree(CsD),aiming to measure the way in which network topology and node activities together contribute to system outcomes. The CsD captures the fact that nodes may assume different states that make their activities more or less *** two nodes with in/compatible states will lead to outcomes that are un/desirable from the perspective of the sEs in question. We mathematically prove that the CsD is a generalized CND, and the CND is a special case of CsD. As a general, fundamental concept, the CsD can facilitate the development of a new framework of network properties, models, and theories that allows us to understand patterns of network behavior that cannot be explained in terms of connectivity alone. We further demonstrate that a co-evolutionary mechanism can naturally improve the CsD. Given the generality of co-evolution in sEs, we argue that the CsD is an inherent attribute rather than an artificial concept, which underpins the fundamental importance of the CsD to the study of sEs.

Given that precipitation is a major component of the earth’s water and energy cycles, reliable information on the monthly spatial distribution of precipitation is also crucial for climate s.ience, climatological water-resource research span>studies, and for the evaluation of regional model simulations. In this paper, four satellite derived precipitation datasets: span>Climate Prediction Center MORPHING (CMORPH), Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), the Precipitation Estimation Algorithm from Remotely-Sensed Information using an Artificial Neural Network (PERSIANN), and the global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) span>are spatially analyzed and compared with the observed precipitation data provided by Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). It is estimated that 130-150 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis C virus （HCV） worldwide. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, illegal commercial plasma or blood donation practices were common in selected rural areas of china, which caused a rapid spread of HCV infection. Cross-sectional studies have showed that the prevalence rates of HCV infection in former paid plasma or blood donors varied from 9.6% to 72.8%. Chronic HCV infection can cause cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）, and is a major global health problem.

In response to the Deepwater Horizon （DwH） oil spill event in 2010, the Naval Oceanographic Office deployed a nowcast-forecast system covering the Gulf of Mexico and adjacent Caribbean sea that was designated Americas seas, or AMsEAs, which is documented in this manuscript. The DwH disaster provided a challenge to the application of available ocean-forecast capabilities, and also generated a historically large observational dataset. AMsEAs was evaluated by four complementary efforts, each with somewhat different aims and approaches： a university research consortium within an Integrated Ocean Observing system （IOOs） testbed; a petroleum industry consortium, the Gulf of Mexico 3-D Operational Ocean Forecast system Pilot Prediction Project （GOMEX-PPP）; a British Petroleum （BP） funded project at the Northern Gulf institute in response to the oil spill; and the Navy itself. Validation metrics are presented in these different projects for water temperature and salinity profiles, sea surface wind, sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and volume transport, for different forecast time scales. The validation found certain geographic and time biases/errors, and small but systematic improvements relative to earlier regional and global modeling efforts. On the basis of these positive AMsEAs validation studies, an oil spill transport simulation was conducted using archived AMsEAs nowcasts to examine transport into the estuaries east of the Mississippi River. This effort captured the influences of Hurricane Alex and a non-tropical cyclone off the Louisiana coast, both of which pushed oil into the western Mississippi sound, illustrating the importance of the atmospheric influence on oil spills such as DwH.

We report the world's first all-season training and validation sample sets for global land cover classification with Landsat-8 *** to this,such samples were only available at a single date primarily from the growing *** is unknown how much limitation such a single-date sample has to mapping global land cover in other seasons of the *** answer this question,we selected available Landsat-8 images from four seasons and collected training and validation samples from *** compared the performances of training samples in different seasons using Random Forest *** found that the use of training samples from any individual season would result in the best overall classification accuracy when validated by samples in the same *** global overall accuracy from combined best seasonal results was 67.2% when classifying the 11 Level-1 classes in the Finer Resolution Observation and Monitoring of global Land Cover(FROM-GLC) classification *** use of training samples from all seasons(named all-season training sample set hereafter) produced an overall accuracy of 67.0%.We also tested classification within 10° latitude 60° longitude zones using all-season training subsample within each zone and obtained an overall accuracy of 70.2%.This indicates that properly grouped subsamples in space can help improve classification *** the results in this study seem to suggest that it is possible to use an all-season training sample set to reach global optimality with universal applicability in classifying images acquired at any time of a year for global land cover mapping.
