Heparinase from different sources can eliminate heparin or/and heparan sulfate into various low-molecular weight heparins with different characteristics. Porcine intestinal mucosa heparin was de- graded into a series of oligosaccharides by a novel heparinase from the species Sphingobacterium. Disaccha- ride components from the digests were separated and purified by ultrafiltration and HPLC. Five major peaks appeared as three types according to their retention time. The mass spectrometry of peak I mainly gave the non-sulfated disaccharide with the mass of 379 Da. Peak II and III were indicated as two major monosulfated disaccharides with molecular mass of 417 and 459 Da respectively. Moreover, the peak III represented an N- acetyl disaccharide. Both peak IV and V showed the same mass of 496 Da, hinting that they were disulfate- substituted disaccharides. No trisulfate-substituted disaccharides were detected in the mixture of the heparin digest though they were abundant in the heparin structure. The results revealed that the heparinase might specifically cut the sites with low sulfated domain in heparin.

A study of the atmospheric photochemical reaction of CF3 radical with CO and O2.was performed by using a homemade ultraviolet photoelectron spectrometer-photoionization mass spectrometer (PES- PIMS). The electronic structures and mechanism of ionization and dissociation of CF3OC(O)OOC(O)- OCF3 were investigated. It was indicated that the two bands on the photoelectron spectrum of CF3OC(O)OOC(O)OCF3 are the result of ionization of an electron from a lone pair of oxygen and a fluo- rine lone pair of CF3 group. The outermost electrons reside in the oxygen lone pair. The experimental and theoretical first vertical ionization energy is 13.2. and 13.178 eV, respectively, with the PES and OVGF method. They are in good agreement. The photo ionization and dissociation processes were discussed with the help of theoretical calculations and PES-PIMS experiment. After ionization, the parent ions prefer the dissociation of the C-O bond and giving the fragments CF3OCO+ and CF3+. It demonstrated that the ultraviolet photoelectron and photoionization mass spectrometer could be ap- plied widely in the study of atmospheric photochemical reaction.

Effect of rock mass structure and block size on the slope stability——Physical modeling and discrete element simulation

This paper studies the stability of jointed rock slopes by using our improved three-dimensional discrete element methods (DEM) and physical modeling. Results show that the DEM can simulate all failure modes of rock slopes with different joint configurations. The stress in each rock block is not homogeneous and blocks rotate in failure development. Failure modes depend on the configuration of joints. Toppling failure is observed for the slope with straight joints and sliding failure is observed for the slope with staged joints. The DEM results are also compared with those of limit equilibrium method (LEM). Without considering the joints in rock masses, the LEM predicts much higher factor of safety than physical modeling and DEM. The failure mode and factor of safety predicted by the DEM are in good agreement with laboratory tests for any jointed rock slope.

A mathematical model for solid liquid and mass transfer coupling and numerical simulation for hydraulic fracture in rock salt

The hydraulic fracture in rock salt is a complicated solid fluid and mass transfer coupling process. Through theoretical analysis, a solid fluid and mass transfer coupling mathematical model of hydraulic fracture in rock salt is established in this work, and numerical simulations are carried out with the model. The simulation results indicate that rock salt cracks in the typical way of wing-crack(or tensile crack) during the fracture, and the relation of fracture aperture (w) with expanding distance (x) and fracture time (t) is w=(0.0034+0.0006t)e (0.0007+0.0018t)x. Furthermore, it has been found that both the water pressure in the crack and the expanding velocity of the crack decrease gradually as a result of the influence of salt dissolving during fracturing. These numerical simulations well illustrate the process of hydraulic fracture in rock salt and are significantly meaningful in engineering practice.

Seasonal variation of global stratosphere-troposphere mass exchange

By Wei formula in pressure coordinate, the stratosphere-troposphere mass exchange (STME) is diagnosed globally for 44 years from 1958 to 2.01 using the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis datasets. Regions of mass flux into the stratosphere are found over Indonesia, bay of Bangladesh and the mid-west coast of South Africa. Compensating mass outflow from the stratosphere appears mainly over mid-latitudes near large-scale troughs. Upward and downward transport of mass at the middle and high latitudes accompany with each other. mass flux into troposphere is stronger in autumn and winter than in spring and summer. Strong downward mass flux into the troposphere occurs in eastern Asia the whole year with nearly stable sites. Although the area of eastern Asia accounts for only 5.6% of that of the northern hemisphere (NH), its net mass exchange reaches 15.83% of that of the NH, which means that research on STME of eastern Asia is greatly important to that of the NH and even the global areas. Air across the tropopause enters more from stratosphere to troposphere than that from troposphere to stratosphere, which is possibly related with systematic bias of the assimilated datasets and with persistent rise of the tropopause height. Contributions of the mass exchange and the mass flux exchange in the NH and southern hemisphere (SH) on their latitudes increase from equator to pole, with larger contributions in the NH. mass exchange and mass flux exchange per areas at high latitudes are larger than that at low latitudes, which means greater mass exchange efficiency at high latitudes.

Analysis of the linkage positions and isomers of monosaccharide units in oligosaccharides by negative secondary ion mass spectrometry in combination with the stereoselective reaction with substituted boronic acid

The negative secondary ion mass spectrometry,in combination with the stereoselective derivatizations with substituted boronic acid RB(OH)_2.was used in the analysis of fourteen oligosac- *** mass spectra of the derivatives provide information on their linkage Positions and iso- merism of the individual monoscaccharide *** results indicated that among the derivatives of the oligosaccharides analyzed,those with 1—4 and 1—6 linkages all presented the ion peaks at m/z 2.7,sometimes one more peak at m/z ***,a relationship was found between the linkage positions and the intensity orders of the derivative ***,the derivatives of the disaccharides with a galactose presented an intense ion peak at m/z 347,and those of oligosaccharides with 1—6 linkage to a galactose at terminal presented the ion at m/z *** the case of oligosaccharides with a fructose residue,characteristic ion of m/z 155 was *** conditions of stereoselective derivatizations and mass spectrometry were studied,in order to obtain a better reproducibility of the mass spectra.

Avoided crossings between non-radial modes in low mass RGB stars

Non-radial p modes and g modes appear simultaneously in red giant stars. Their frequencies have different variation rates,causing their frequencies to become close during stellar evolution so that avoided crossings *** separation between regions where acoustic waves and gravity waves propagate for l=1,2.and 3 is different,which results in the coupling efficiency also being *** present the results of numerical computations of the models we *** find that the two kinds of modes for l=2.and 3 need to be closer in frequency in order for a complete exchange to occur,compared to the case for modes with l=*** scaled oscillation frequencies also present better regularity with evolution than modes with l=1. In order to study the effect of the avoided crossings in detail,we set the mode which has the smallest mode inertia to be the p *** plot the two kinds of modes for l =1,2.and 3 in frequency and periodéchelle diagrams and find modes of l=2.and 3 fit the two relations better;they are more equally spaced in frequency and period than modes with l=*** careful observation of the two kinds oféchelle diagrams for l=2.and 3,we still find that some p modes shift a little from being equally spaced in frequency and some g modes,which are close to those p modes in period,shift a little from being equally spaced in ***,we study the relation between the deviation from period being equally spaced and the mode inertia of g modes for different *** g modes of l=1 with a period closer to the p mode have less inertia and the deviation is bigger in the periodéchelle *** deviation is also obvious. However g modes of l=2.and 3 shift a little or have almost no deviation from being equally spaced in period,even though some of them may have strong coupling and close mode inertia like in the p ***,we suggest a possible method for measuring period spacing of g modes precisely using mixed g modes with l=2.and 3 that have fewer observed mixed g m

Gymnosperms on the eve of the terminal Permian mass extinction in North china and their survival strategies

Main characteristics of the Permian redbed gymnosperms in North china have been summarized: dominant peltasperms and conifers, numerous enigmatics such as Gigantonoclea and Psygmophyllum, and abundant precursors of Mesozoic gymnosperms. Furthermore, stresses affecting these plants survival are suggested to be paleoatmospheric CO-2.concentration, water stress, wind and fire activities, and fungal infection. Consequently, a preliminary analysis accounts for the ecological strategies of these gymnosperms to the P-Tr event.
