Transport network and flow mechanism of shallow ore-bearing magma in Tongling ore cluster area

Abundant studies revealed that shallow intrusions of the Yanshanian epoch resulted in the mass mineralization of the Tongling region. Various evidences showed there existed a concealed magma chamber at ?10 km depth in the middle part of this region during Yanshanian epoch, from which the ore-forming magma was generated and then transported to the superficial layer. Yet the transport network and flow mechanism of the shallow ore-bearing magma, the key problem associ- ated with ore-forming process, was relatively little focused on. Integrate analysis of structural me- chanics, statistical fractal and geological facts suggested that NE trending high-angle fold-related thrust faults and the tessellated basement ones served as the main pathways for the shallow magma’s transporting, moreover, the saddle void spaces among adjacent strata in the folds upon this fault system provided the place for magma’s emplacement. So the folds in the upper part and faults in the lower part of the upper crust constituted the fluid’s transport and emplacement network. During the deformation of geologic body with multi-layer structure, the layers in the upper part tended to fold when received the jacking stress from the lower part, while the lower one inclined to fault undergoing loads of the upper part. And the producing probability of this structure assemblage was highly in- creased in the condition, such as in the Tongling area, that the mechanic rigidity of the lower layers was stronger than that of the upper ones. For the pre-existence of fluid-conducting network, the top magma with high volatile in the magma chamber transported rapidly to the superficial layer in dyking pattern, located in the void spaces of folds, filled and reconstructed them. The sudden drop of pres- sure caused the fluid unmixing from the magma and mass ore-forming elements concentration. Microcosmic analysis of ductile shearing zones of coal seams of brittle deformation domain in superficial lithosphere

The ductile shearing zones of coal seams in a brittle deformation domain in super-ficial lithosphere are put forward based on the study on bedding shearing and ductile rheology of coal seams. The macrocosmic and microcosmic characteristics include wrinkle fold, mymonitized zones and ductile planar structure of coal seams, etc., while the microcosmic characteristics may also include different optic-axis fabrics and the anisotropy of vitrinite reflectance as well as the change of chemical structure and organic geochemistry components. The forming mechanism is analyzed and the strain environment of ductile shearing zones of coal seams discussed. The result indicates that, in the superficial brittle deformation domain, the coal seams are easy to be deformed, resulting in not only brittle deformation but also ductile shearing deformation under the action of force. Because of simple shearing stress, the interlayer gliding or ductile rheology may take place between coal seams and wall rocks. Therefore, many ductile shearing zones come into being in superficial lithosphere (<5 km). The research on ductile shearing zone of brittle de-formation domain in superficial lithosphere is significant not only theoretically for the study of ductile shearing and ductile rheology of the lithosphere but also practically for the structural movement of coal seams, the formation and accumulation of coal-bed methane, and the preven-tion and harness of gas burst in coal mine.

South china's Gondwana connection in the Paleozoic:Paleomagnetic evidence

The reconstruction in which the South china Block (SCB) lies along the Great India Australia region of Gondwana margin is tested by using existing Paleozoic paleomagnetic data. Under the proposed reconstruction, all six high quality paleopoles from the SCB between the Early Cambrian and late Early Devonian (～400 Ma) are in good agreement with coeval paleopoles from Gondwana. Thereafter, the apparent polar wander paths for the SCB and Gondwana diverge markedly. This indicates that the SCB had been part of Gondwana and the connection was intact from at least Early Cambrian until late Early Devonian, but they began to separate by late Middle Devonian (～375 Ma).

Pattern phenomena in an rf discharge dusty plasma system

Various dust patterns are observed in an rf discharge dusty plasma system. According to the dust growth process from small to large in size, the formation of different dust patterns can be divided into two stages: the small-particle stage (or dust cloud stage), and the large-particle stage (or dust crystal stage). The evolution relations between different dust patterns with gas pressure changing are investigated. Dust voids, dust acoustic waves and strong turbulence modes are presented at the small-particle stage. The self-organized dust lattices and dust clusters are investigated at the large-particle stage. The static structure of a dust lattice is characterized by means of the pair correlation function. Dust clusters formed by particles with different numbers and the regular evolution of the clusters with gas pressure are also investigated. The packing sequences of dust clusters are verified through two-dimensional confined molecular dynamics simulations.

To better understand the carbon dioxide (CO2. corrosion behavior of carbon steel and its influence on petroleum development (including drilling,production and transportation) in the Daqing Oilfield,CO2.corrosion behaviors of N80,P110,X52.and 13Cr pipe lines in simulated solution at high temperature and high pressure condition are investigated by dynamic corrosion experiments,scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) *** show that the corrosion rate of all pipe lines increases quickly when CO2.partial pressure increases from 0.5 to 1.5 MPa,but it slows down when CO2.partial pressure further increases from 1.5 to 4.5 MPa,during which localized corrosion is *** the experimental temperature ranges from 60 to 12.°C,localized corrosion *** corrosion rate of all pipe lines decreases sharply when the temperature changes from 60 to 100°C,and it becomes stable after the temperature is higher than 100°*** the flow rate is in the range of 0–1.5 m/s,the corrosion rate of sample X52.remains unchanged,but localized corrosion gradually becomes very serious when the flow rate further *** analyzing the corrosion product scales of sample 13Cr,some remarkable phenomena are *** the temperature range of 60–100°C,the corrosion product scales are loose and thick,but become very compact when the temperature increases above 100°*** the later case,localized corrosion is *** main components of the corrosion product scales are FeCO3 and Cr2.3.

Problems of Sequence Stratigraphy in china

A comprehensive study of outcrop sequence stratigraphy in china began in the early 1990s. The investigated strata range from Mesoproterozoic to Quaternary and the studied areas cover the three platforms and margins, the Southern Himalayas and the East china and South china seas. Problems of general concern in the sequence stratigraphy of china are discussed. These are: the hierarchy for sequence stratigraphy, the third order Sequence and eustasy, the chronostratigraphic boundaries and GSSP, and the International Stratigraphic Chart and the sequence chronostratigraphy of china. The average time interval of Mesosequence (2.-40 Ma) and of the Sequence (2.5 Ma) is suggested and the minor sequences below the Sequence are discussed. The time interval of the Sequence shows no evident decrease with time, but several epochs with remarkable short intervals occur in the Phanerozoic, which may represent a planetary behavior denoting the special development stages in earth’s evolution. Sea level change curves are given separately for the three platforms and the different regions. The Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) concept and practice are discussed, and a comparison between the first appearance point of biozone and the first flooding surface in the Sequence is made for designation of the chronostratigraphic boundary. It is suggested that the chronostratigraphic boundaries might be set at the first flooding surface in the Sequence for easy recognition. The idea of sequence chronostratigraphy is recommended, and a comparison between the International Stratigraphic Chart and the sequence chronostratigraphy of china is made. The close relation between chronostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy makes it possible for sequence stratigraphy to improve chronostratigraphic research. It is pointed out that multidisciplinary study in chronostratigraphy is necessary and should be promising and profitable.

Criteria for defining and recognizing the various orders of sequences in outcrop sequence stratigraphy

The regional distribution in different depositional facies belts is here regarded as an important criterion for defining and recognizing the various orders of sequences. The third-order sequence is possibly global in nature, which may be discerned in different depositional facies belts in one continental margin and can be correlated over long distances, sometimes even worldwide. Commonly, correlation of subsequence (fourth-order sequence with time interval of 0.51.5 Ma) is difficult in different facies belts, although some of them may also be worldwide in distribution. A subsequence should be able to discern and correlate within at least one facies belt. The higher-order sequences, including microsequence (fifth-order sequence) and minisequence (sixth-order sequence), are regional or local in distribution. They may reflect the longer and shorter Milankovitch cycles respectively. Sequence and subsequence are usually recognizable in different facies belts, while microsequence and minisequence may be distinguished only in shallow marine deposits, but not in slope and basin facies deposits. A brief discussion is made on the essential conditions for correct identification of sequences, useful methods of study, and problems meriting special attention in outcrop sequence stratigraphy.

Restoration of eroded stratal thickness in key periods of tectonic change in a multi-stage superimposed Tarim Basin in china

With an area of 56×104km2. the Tarim Basin is the largest inland basin in china and is also generally acknowledged as one of the most important areas for potential oil and gas exploration. On the basis of data from 2. regional seismic profiles and 40 drilling wells, 15 important first-order and second-order regional unconformities were *** all the main unconformities are superimposed unconfomities. Since the Cambrian, 5 key periods of tectonic change have occurred during the evolution of the Tarim Basin. The total eroded stratal thickness of the above-mentioned unconformities was calculated by using the method of virtual extrapolation of seismic reflection. The results indicate that the total eroded stratal thickness of different periods is quite different in different locations of the basin. Taking the Upper-Middle Ordovician as an example, its thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated into individual stages i.e. its thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated to different tectonic periods. Otherwise, as for the specific period of tectonic change, the underlying strata were, respectively eroded and thus the thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated into individual intervals. Taking the Early Hercynian period as an example, the eroded stratal thickness was calculated into individual intervals to calculate the ratio of intervals of various ages occupying the total eroded thickness. The results show that for the same stratum, its degree of erosion is quite different in different periods and at different locations, due to the varying influence of tectonic movement. The unconformities of some key periods of tectonic change have different controls on the degree of erosion and the eroded range of the individual period of the underlying strata which are the typical characteristics of multi-stage superimposition of unconformities in the Tarim Basin.

A new iguanodontid (Jin-zhousaurus yangi *** ***.) from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning,china

A new iguanodontid, Jinzhousaurus yangi gen. et sp. nov., is erected based on the cranial and dental morphology of a specimen from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning. Although a few primitive characteristics remain, Jinzhousaurus yangi display a number of characteristics similar to those seen in derived iguanodontids. Other interesting characteristics include the absence of antorbital fenestra and the frontal excluded from the participation in orbit, which are closer to the condition in hadrosaurids. The unusual combination of the characteristics provides important data for assessing morphological evolution toward hadrosaurs. The new discovery also represents the first reported large-sized dinosaur from Jehol fauna in western Liaoning, and increases the diversity of this famous fauna. Furthermore, the discovery of a derived iguanodontid from the Yixian Formation provides further evidence supporting a Cretaceous age of the Jehol fauna, which is consistent with an isotopic age.

On some tests-based projection pursuit for elliptical symmetry of a high-dimensional distribution

Some test statistics of Kolmogorov type and Cramér-von Mises type based on projection pursuit technique are proposed for the testing problem of sphericity of a high-dimensional distribution. The limiting distributions of the test statistics are derived under the null hypothesis and under any fixed alternative. The asymptotic properties of bootstrap approximation are investigated. Furthermore, for computational reasons, an approximation for the statistics, based on the number theoretic method, is suggested.
