Degradation of anthracene, pyrene and benzo[a]-anthracene in aqueous solution by chlorine dioxide

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) constitute an important group of micropollutants, which are known to be mutagenic, carcinogenic and/or co-carcinogenic and relatively persistent in the environment. The effects of chlorine dioxide (ClO2. on the degradation of anthracene (ANTH), pyrene (PYR) and benzo[a]anthracene (BaA) in aqueous solution were investigated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In preliminary experiments, it was observed that ClO2.could remove these three PAHs effectively within a short time. Several factors including reaction time, the concentration of ClO2.and pH of the reaction mixture influencing the degradation ratio of PAHs have been studied by batch experiments. The results showed that the degradation ratio of PAHs was affected by reaction time and the concentration of ClO2.instead of pH. The degradation ratio of ANTH, PYR and BaA could reach their maximum as approximately 99.0%, 67.5% and 89.5%, respectively, under the condition as follows: reaction time 30, 60 and 12. min, the concentration of ClO2.0.1, 0.4 and 0.5 mmol·L-1, and pH 7.2. ANTH was selected as the representative to study the reaction mechanism with ClO2. The oxidation products formed in the reaction of ANTH with ClO2.were tentatively identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and the results showed that the main product was 9, 10-anthraquinone, which could be biodegraded more easily and quickly than ANTH. Through analyzing the reaction properties of ANTH and ClO2. the possible pathway for the ANTH-ClO2.reaction was proposed based on the theory of single electron transfer (SET).

Nine isomers, twenty transition states, and some relative dissociation fragments of [C,N,N,P] system were located at the B3LYP/6-311G(d) and QCISD(t)/6-311+G(2.f) (single-point) levels of theory, and the isomerization, structures, and stability of these obtained isomers were suggested. The results indicate that four nonlinear chainlike isomers NCNP, NCPN, CNPN, and CNNP with 2.′ electronic state are kinetically stable. Other isomers are kinetically unstable to-wards isomerization or dissociation because of the corresponding smaller reaction barriers. Furthermore, calculated vibrational frequencies, rotational constants, dipole moments, the first adiabatic ionization energies, and adiabatic electron affinities of the four isomers may provide some theoretical information that is helpful for identifying their existence in future laboratory and interstellar investigations. The results are also compared with [Si,N,N,P] system.

The study of adsorption gas sensor based carbon nanotube film

The study of gas sensitivity of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), which is deposited by low press chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD), is presented. The results show that the pure MWNTs are not sensitive to the gases measured, while the composite film consisting of the MWNTs and silicon dioxide is sensitive to the methane, the hydrogen and the acetylene. The MWNTs and silicon dioxide composite film have the capacitance characteristic because of the formation of Schottky junctions within the MWNTs. The chemistry adsorption of the gas measured on the surface of the MWNTs affects the space discharge area of the Schottky junction, so that the dielectric constant changes with the gas concentration. That is why the gas is sensed.

Friction-reducing and antiwear behavior of metal halide-stabilized linear phosphazene derivatives as lubricants for a steel-on-steel contact

A series of novel metal halide-stabilized linear phosphazene derivatives were synthesized. The friction-reducing and antiwear abilities of the resulting products as the lubricants for a steel-on-steel contact were comparatively investigated on an Optimol SRV oscillating friction and wear tester. The morphology of the worn steel surface was observed on a scanning electron microscope, while the chemical states of some typical elements on the worn steel surface were examined by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that both the side branch structures and central metals influenced the friction-reducing and antiwear behaviors of the synthetic derivatives as the lubricants, which was related to the different adsorption activities of the organic compounds composed of different organic ingredients and metallic ions on a nascent metal surface. All the synthetic lubricants except for the iron (III) derivative showed increased antiwear abilities with increasing metallic ionic radius. A protective layer originated from the tribochemical reaction together with the adsorbed boundary lubricating layer containing organic fluorine compounds, nitrogen oxide, and Fe 3 (PO 4 ) 2.plays an important role in improving the friction and wear behavior of the steel-on-steel system.

Bipolar charged aerosol agglomeration and collection by a two-zone agglomerator

In older to collect fine particles more efficiently, a new-type electrostatic agglomerator with two zones was developed. The distinguishing feature of this electrostatic agglomerator is that the particles are bipolarly charged and coagulated in the same alternating electric field simultaneously. The silica flour with 2.fun mass median diameter and the smoke from burning wood powder were used as test aerosol. The comparison experimental results have shown that when the mean electric field is 4 kV/cm the collection efficiency of the new electrostatic agglomerator was 98.2. for silica flour and 67.4% for wood powder smoke, Under the same experimental condition. the collection efficiency of the electrostatic agglomerator with three zones was 97.4% for collecting silica flour and the collection efficiency of the electrostatic precipitator was 56.3% for wood powder smoke.

Sintering technology for micro heat pipe with sintered wick

In order to study reasonable sintering technological parameters and appropriate copper powder size range of micro heat pipe (MHP) with the sintered wick, the forming principle of copper powders in wicks and MHP's heat transfer capabilities were first analyzed, then copper powders with different cell sizes and dispersions were sintered in RXL-12.11 resistance furnace under the protection of the hydrogen at different sintering temperatures for different durations of sintering time, and finally the sintered wicks' scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and their heat transfer capabilities were analyzed. The results indicate that the wick sintered with copper powders of larger cell size or smaller size range has better sintering properties and larger heat transfer capabilities; and that the increase of either sintering temperatures or sintering time also helps to improve the wick's sintering properties and heat transfer capabilities, and the former affects more obviously than the latter. Considering both its manufacturing cost and performance requirements, it is recommended that copper powders with the size range of 140-170 μm are sintered at 900-950℃ for 30-60 min in practical manufacturing. In addition, two approaches to improve wick's porosity are also proposed through theoretical analysis, which suggests that the larger the wick's porosity, the better the heat transfer capabilities of the MHP.

The monomer of phosphorylcholine derivative, O-(5-（2.methacryloxy）-3, 3-dimethyl-3-azapentyl)-O’-（ω-hydroxy-octyl）-phosphatequaternary ammonium salt, was designed and synthesized successfully. It was characterized by the spectra ofHNMR and Mass spectra （ESI+）, and every signal was assigned. Then the lubricating characteristics of the phosphorylcholinederivative were investigated on the tribological setup of ball-oh-flat. The Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene（UHMWPE） flat was rotated against a stainless steel ball with 6 mm diameter. The load was 2.3 N, which corresponded to amaximal Hertz contact pressure of 2. MPa. Water, phosphorylcholine derivative, and Acrylic Acid （AA） solution were used aslubricants, respectively. Compared with AA, the phosphorylcholine derivative shows significant lubrication. It can be stronglyhydrated under water due to the charged segment in chemical structure. The thick water layers within the chains serves asboundary lubricants, and this is thought to be the molecular origins of lubricating behavior.

Study on the electric double layer of a cylindrical reverse micelle with functional theoretical approach

The iterative method in functional analysis is applied to looking for asolution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation in order to describe the problems of the distribution ofthe potentials in the electric double layer (EDL) inside the water pool for a cylindrical inversemicelle. Potentials as a function of the position of a particular point in EDL are computed, whichdisplay a quantitative agreement with those from earlier calculation of Debye and Huckel in the caseof low potentials. But it is also shown that in the higher-potential range the iterativecalculations can give more accurate results. These results indicate the utility of this functionalanalysis technique in the description of the properties of EDL for a cylindrical inverse micelle.

Microstructure of Bioglass/Hydroxynpatite Coatings on Ti Substrate

Composite coatings of bioglass and hydroxyapatite (briefly named HA/BG) with different hydroxyapatite contents on titanium substrate were successfully fabricated. The fabricated coatings are characterized by rough and poriform *** densities of the coatings decrease with the increase of HA content. There is a transition layer with a 5 μm thickness between the BG coating and the substrate. During heat-treatment, hydroxyapatite crystals with hexastyle shape have precipitated from the BG.
