In taiwan, many groups engage in the development of TiNi SMAs. The two-stage martensitic transformations of and have been clarified for both TiNi binary and ternary alloys. The deformation behaviors have been investigated by cold-rolling, hot-rolling and wire drawing. Both shape memory effect and pseudoelasticity can be improved by some thermal-mechanical treatments. The damping characteristics of TiNi and TiNiX SMAs have also been systematically studied. Both B19'/B19 martensite (M)and R-phase(R) have high daming capacities due to the stress-induced movement of twin boundaries. Meanwhile, the addition of third elements-Fe and Cu-can largely increase the damping ***, some high temperature shape memory alloys-TiHiPd and TiNi-.Au alloys-have also been intensively studied in taiwan. All these potential investigations on the TiNi SMAs in taiwan have attracted much attention and their important characteristics will be applied widely in the near future.

This study tries to discuss the relationship between landscape structure and organisms in the perspective of landscape architecture. The research hypotheses were then proposed as (1) there are relationships between landscape structure indexes and birds' diversity in the rural areas of taiwan; (2. the relationships between landscape structure and birds' diversity will be different in different hierarchical levels. In order to increase the bird species, landscape planners could tries to increase the density of water bodies, but decrease the farms and human planted woods. Decrease the density of constructed and human planted grasslands. Increase the area of un-worked acres, natural grasslands, and the area of water bodies and circular the water bodies and natural forest. In order to increase birds' diversity, landscape planners could decrease the concentration of paved areas. Concentrate the human planted trees to increase the core areas of woodlands. Increase the area of natural grassland circular. In order to increase the total number of birds in the planning areas, landscape planners could scattered the paved areas and lengthen the constructed areas. Decreases the core region of the constructed areas. Increase the area of un-worked acres and water bodies. Decrease the disturbance of both the interior area of natural and human planted woodlands and try to increase the density of water bodies.;The analysis results showed that the small grain size indexes are more suitable for the rural areas of taiwan to capture the influential factors of bird communities. The high fragmentation of land usages in taiwan lessens the influences of the regional landscape pattern.

Activity of Reducing Steel Slag of EAF

Reducing steel slag （RSS） was mainly acquired from five electric-arc furnace （EAF） steelmaking plants （among them, the products of two plants were carbon steel and those of other plants were stainless steel） for research tests. The chemical properties, compound compositions, activities and contents of main expansive compounds were tested. The results showed that the field sampled RSS had a very high crystallinity and hydraulicity with main chemical compositions close to those of Portland cement. It can be known from the study that in case of C/S ratio higher than 2.0, the main compound compositions are C2., C3S, C2. and f-CaO. However, after the RSS was stored for six months, an obvious variation occurred with potential pre-hydration in RSS, where the SO3 content was slightly reduced and the compressive activity index was obviously higher than that at the 2.th day.

A biological aerated filter （BAF） was evaluated as a fixed-biofilm process to remove water-borne volatile organic compounds （VOCs） from a multiple layer ceramic capacitor （MLCC） manufacturing plant in southern taiwan. The components of VOC were identified to be toluene, 1,2.4-trimethylbenzene, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, bromodichloromethane and isopropanol （IPA）. The full-scale BAF was constructed of two separate reactors in series, respectively, using 10- and 15-cm diameter polypropylene balls as the packing materials and a successful preliminary bench-scale experiment was performed to feasibility. Experimental results show that the BAF removed over 90% chemical oxygen demand （COD） from the influent with （1188 ± 605） mg/L of COD. A total organic loading of 2.76 kg biochemical oxygen demand （BOD）/（m3 packing·d） was determined for the packed bed, in which the flow pattern approached that of a mixed flow. A limited VOC concentration of （0.97 ± 0.2.） ppmv （as methane） was emitted from the BAF system. Moreover, the emission rate of VOC was calculated using the proposed formula, based on an air-water mass equilibrium relationship, and compared to the simulated results obtained using the Water 9 model. Both estimation approaches of calculation and model simulation revealed that 0.1% IPA （0.0031-0.0037 kg/d） were aerated into a gaseous phase, and 30% to 40% （0.006-0.008 kg/d） of the toluene were aerated.

It is adequate to use the gray theory for modeling and forecasting short-term calamity series. The forecast of calamity gray series is equivalent to predicting an extraordinary event in nature. In order to look for the regularity, the calamity date series, created from the threshold for a fixed time-interval series, are studied. In this paper, the Hurst exponent is applied to defining the long-term memory effect of the simulated calamity series, and is tested for the feasibility of using it as pre-requisite information before the gray modeling and forecasting. Based on the fractional Brownian motion (fBm) model, the time series with a definite length or quantity of data are derived assuming that various kinds of memory effect exist. Different threshold values are defined to yield or to analogize the calamity date series that are required in the prediction of the gray calamity events. After case study, both of the simulated and real seismic data show that the Hurst exponents are greater than 0.5 and, therefore, indicate that the long-term memory ef-fect exists. The correlation between the Hurst exponent and the gray modeling parameter, a, provides criteria for the classification of the forecast.

Aim:To characterize the effect of combined pre-and postnatal morphine exposureon N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor（NMDA）receptor signaling in hippocampalneurons of the offspring of morphine-addicted female ***:Culturedhippocampal neurons and synaptosomes were prepared from neonatal and 2.week-old offspring,respectively,of control or morphine-addicted female *** in the cytosolic Ca2.concentration([Ca2.]i)of cultured cells was mea-sured using Fura-2.and glutamate release from synaptosomes was ***:Both glutamate and NMDA caused a dose-dependentincrease in the[Ca2.]*** nitric oxide（NO）donor,S-nitrosoglutathione（GSNO）,but not 3-morpholinosydnonimine,sodium nitroprusside,and S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine,also induced a[Ca2.]*** and glutathione causeda dose-dependent increase in the[Ca2.]iwith respective EC50values of 56 and 414μmol/*** effects were inhibited by Mg2.or an NMDA receptor antagonistand were unaffected by the presence of a glutamate *** other glu-tathione derivatives,oxidized glutathione,S-methylglutathione,S-ethylglutathione,S-propylglutathione,and S-butylglutathione,the dipeptides,Glu-Cys and Cys-Gly,and the antioxidants,dithiothreitol and mercaptoethanol,failed to induce a[Ca2.]*** addition,glutathione caused a dose-dependent increase inglutamate release from *** maximal responses and the EC50val-ues for the glutamate-,NMDA-,GSNO-,and glutathione-induced[Ca2.]iincreasesand the glutathione-induced glutamate release were indistinguishable in the neu-rons of the offspring from control and morphine-addicted female ***:GSNO and glutathione act as NMDA receptor agonists and,in contrast to hippoc-ampal brain slice,combined pre-and postnatal morphine exposure does not modu-late NMDA receptor signaling in the cultured hippocampal neurons.

Lithium-aluminum-cobalt-nickel oxide LiAlxCoyNi1xyO2.particles, generally used as cathode of lithium battery, were prepared by chemical coprecipitation from an aqueous solution of LiOH, Al(NO3)3, Co(NO3)2.and Ni(NO3)2.with NH4OH. XRD, SEM and FTIR were used to examine the effect of nickel content on the product. FTIR patterns showed that increase in nickel content decreased the absorption strength of the peak of spinel structure of the product, attributed to the occupation by nickel in the aluminum sites. Particle size and electrical properties of the lithium-aluminum-cobalt-nickel oxide (abbreviated as LACNO) particles were also determined.
