This paper presents an algorithm for automatically generating in-between frames of two artistic brushstrokes. The basic idea of the algorithm is to represent the two key frames of artistic brushstrokes in disk B-spline curves, and then make blending of their geometric intrinsic variables. Given two key frames of artistic brushstrokes, the skeleton curves can be obtained by certain skeleton-based techniques. After disk B-spline representation of the key frames is generated, interpolation of the intrinsic variables of the initial and the target disk B-spline curves is carried out. Examples show that this method can efficiently create in-between frames of artistic brushstrokes.

To predict correctly the rut depths in asphalt pavements,a new nonlinear viscoelastic-elastoplastic constitutive model of permanent deformation in asphalt pave-ments is presented. The model combines a generalized Maxwell model with an elasto-plastic one. Then from the creep theory,the linear and nonlinear constitutive equations of the generalized Maxwell model are obtained. From the nonlinear finite element method for the rutting of the asphalt pavement,the rut depths of 4 asphalt-aggregate mixtures are obtained. And the results are compared with the ones from the finite element method by SHRP and the experiments by SWK/UN. The results in this paper are better than the ones by SHRP,and agree with the ones of the experiment by SWK/UN. This shows that the nonlinear viscoelastic-elastoplastic constitutive model,which is presented in this paper for the rutting of the asphalt pavement,is effective. The properties,such as nonlinear elastic-ity,plasticity,viscoelasticity and nonlinear viscoelasticity,which affect the rutting of an asphalt pavement,can be shown in the model. And the characteristics of the permanent deformation of the asphalt pavement can be presented entirely in the model.

The hydraulic fracture in rock salt is a complicated solid fluid and mass transfer coupling process. Through theoretical analysis, a solid fluid and mass transfer coupling mathematical model of hydraulic fracture in rock salt is established in this work, and numerical simulations are carried out with the model. The simulation results indicate that rock salt cracks in the typical way of wing-crack(or tensile crack) during the fracture, and the relation of fracture aperture (w) with expanding distance (x) and fracture time (t) is w=(0.0034+0.0006t)e (0.0007+0.001.t)x. Furthermore, it has been found that both the water pressure in the crack and the expanding velocity of the crack decrease gradually as a result of the influence of salt dissolving during fracturing. These numerical simulations well illustrate the process of hydraulic fracture in rock salt and are significantly meaningful in engineering practice.

A number of lead-zinc sulphide deposits have been discovered in recent years in dolo- mitic rocks of the Upper Sinian Dengying Formation in the Dadu River valley region, Sichuan Province, china. The lead-zinc mineralization is closely associated with a black siliceous exhalite that has been traced over 50 km of strike. This makes Dadu River valley the most extensive stratiform non-ferrous sulphide horizon having been discovered to date in china. In a previous study by the first author (LIN), these deposits were recognised as belonging to the broad spectrum of lead-zinc sedimentary exhala- tive (SEDEX) deposits. In this paper, seismites and seismogenetic structures occurring in close association with the Dadu River valley mineralized zone are described. The close spatial and temporal relationship between the seismites and mineralization provides strong evidence for the hypothesis that the lead-zinc SEDEX deposits formed in direct response to earthquake activities around the Sinian-Cambrian boundary. The earthquakes are postulated to be an effective dynamic mechanism for triggering the upward migration of deep circulating ore fluids along synsedimentary growth faults and their exhalation onto the sea-floor to form the extensive deposits of stratiform lead-zinc sulphide ore.

Empirical likelihood confidence regions of the parameters in a partially linear single-index model

In this paper, a partially linear single-index model is investigated, and three empirical log-likelihood ratio statistics for the unknown parameters in the model are suggested. It is proved that the proposed statistics are asymptotically standard chi-square under some suitable conditions, and hence can be used to construct the confidence regions of the parameters. Our methods can also deal with the confidence region construction for the index in the pure single-index model. A simulation study indicates that, in terms of coverage probabilities and average areas of the confidence regions, the proposed methods perform better than the least-squares method.

The conception of k_uniform smoothness (KUS) is introduced. It is the extension of the conception of uniform smoothness. It is proved that the k_uniform smoothness and Sullivan’s K_uniform rotundity (KUR) are the daul notions. X+* is a KUR space if and only if X is a KUS space, X+* is a KUS space if and only if X is a KUR space. If X is a KUS space, then X is a (K+1.US space. It is also proved that the KUS space includes the Nan’s k_strongly smooth space.

Based on ranging intersection theory, a new method which is simple and easy to operate was proposed for data collection in the mine surface deformation monitoring with GPS-RTK centering rod measurements. It can fully eliminate the inevitable shaking error and the vertical deflection, and to some extent weaken the multipath effect on the estimates of coordinates in a relatively short period of time, using high-frequency observations. The results show that three-dimensional coordinates with a height accuracy better than 1.cm, horizontal accuracy better than 2.4 cm can be achieved through only 1.-30 s continuous observation by 2. Hz high-frequency and effectively improve the measurement accuracy and efficiency of RTK, fully satisfying the high-speed and high-precision data acquisition in mine surface subsidence deformation monitoring.

This paper addresses the analysis of a novel parallel robot with 2.translational degrees of freedom (DOFs). The robot can position a rigid body in a plane with constant orientation. The kinematic structure of the robot is first described in detail. Some kinematic problems, such as the inverse and forward kinematics, velocity, and singularity are then analyzed. The working and assembly modes are discussed. Since it is the most important index to design a robot, the workspace of the robot is studied systematically in this paper. Based on the analysis of reachable workspace and singularity, a kind of workspace concept characterizing the region that the end-effector of the robot can reach in practice is defined. The results of this paper will be very useful for the design and application of the robot.

Moist vorticity vector is introduced to study the development and evolution of mesoscale convective vortex (MCV) in the Meiyu front precipitation with the Advanced Regional Predication System (ARPS). In this study, the heavy rainfall is simulated to investigate the genesis, development and dissipation of middle scale convective vortex, which occurred from 0000 UTC 3 July to 1.0}0 UTC 5 July over the Jianghuai River valley. Moist vorticity vector (MVV) has zonal, radial and vertical components in its 3D spatial distribution. The simulation shows that the vertical component of moist vorticity vector well demonstrates the spatial distribution characteristics of middle scale convective vortex, especially in the process of Meiyu front precipitation. Diagnosis upon zonal, radial averaged and mass-integrated quantities of MVV shows that its vertical component and the surface precipitating ratio are in phase with a correlation coefficient of 0.68, indicating that the vertical component of MVV is closely associated with the Meiyu front precipitation. In addition, the tendency of the vertical component of MVV is mainly determined by the interaction between the vorticity and the zonal and radial gradient of condensational or depositional heating.
