Based on monthly mean, maximum, and minimum air temperature and monthly mean precipitation data from 10 meteorological stations on the southern slope of the Mt. Qomolangma region in Nepal between 1971 and 2.09, the spatial and temporal characteristics of climatic change in this region were analyzed using climatic linear trend, Sen＇s Slope Estimates and Mann-Kendall Test analysis methods. This paper focuses only on the southern slope and attempts to compare the results with those from the northern slope to clarify the characteristics and trends of climatic change in the Mt. Qomolangma region. The results showed that：（1） between 1971 and 2.09, the annual mean temperature in the study area was 2..0℃, the rising rate of annual mean temperature was 0.2.℃/10a, and the temperature increases were highly influenced by the maximum temperature in this region. On the other hand, the temperature increases on the northern slope of Mt. Qomolangma region were highly influenced by the minimum temperature. In 1974 and 1992. the temperature rose noticeably in February and September in the southern region when the increment passed 0.9℃. （2. Precipitation had an asymmetric distribution; between 1971 and 2.09, the annual precipitation was 172..01 mm. In this region, precipitation showed an increasing trend of 4.2. mm/a, but this was not statistically significant. In addition, the increase in rainfall was mainly concentrated in the period from April to October, including the entire monsoon period （from June to September） when precipitation accounts for about 78.9% of the annual total. （3. The influence of altitude on climate warming was not clear in the southern region, whereas the trend of climate warming was obvious on the northern slope of Mt. Qomolangma. The annual mean precipitation in the southern region was much higher than that of the northern slope of the Mt. Qomolangma region. This shows the barrier effect of the Himalayas as a whole and Mt. Qomolangma in particular.

Soil moisture plays an important role in water and energy balance in land-atmospheric interaction, but is impacted directly by the groundwater table. Dynamic variation of the groundwater table can be described mathematically by a moving boundary problem. In this paper, the moving boundary problem is reduced to a fixed boundary problem through a coordinate transformation. A new model of groundwater table simulation is developed using the mass-lumped finite element method and is coupled with the land surface model of Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC). The simulation results show that the new model not only can simulate the groundwater table dynamically, but also can evade the choice of water table depth scale in computation with a low computation cost.

The sensitivity of an impedance imaging system to small cylindrical inhomogeneities (targets) placed in both a 2.D and a 3.D saline tank was studied. Target material. Target location, cross section area of a target, electrode size and the number of targot in the region for producing image are main factors to effect changes in the sensitivity of the system. The system was less sensitive to inhomogeneities in a 3.D tank than to those in the 2.D tank.

Heavy tamping is one of the important methods for ground treatment. But the vibration is often a problem that restricts the application during heavy tamping. On the other hand, as an instant impact load with controllable energy, heavy tamping is a good test in situ for the study of soil dynamics. With the analysis in the field of frequency, deductive method for medium effecting function and excitation function of heavy tamping is put forward in this paper.

[1]Overshielding is referred to a shielding status,during which the dawnward shielding electric field dominates over the duskward penetration electric field in the inner magnetosphere,typically appearing when the interplanetary magnetic field(IMF) suddenly turns northward after a prolonged southward *** is expected that the transition to overshielding after IMF northward turning can be affected by the shape of northward turning(sharp or gradual).Moreover,the initial shielding status(undershielding or goodshielding) prior to the transition may also have influence on the *** we analyze two groups of cases,in which the transitions appear after sharp(duration less than 5 min) and gradual(duration more than 3. min) northward *** group includes two cases,in which the transition initiated from undershielding and *** cases show that(1) the beginning of the transition to overshielding coincides with shaip IMF northward turning but appears in the midst of gradual IMF northward turning;(2. the transition from goodshielding to overshielding is always associated with convection electric field drop and/or polar cap shrinkage,regardless of the shape of IMF northward turning;and(3. the typical solar wind condition in which the IMF suddenly turns northward after a prolonged southward orientation is neither a necessary condition nor a sufficient condition for ***,we will discuss the effect of substorm processes on overshielding.
