The Mesoproterozoic Changcheng System is widely distributed in the North china Craton. Determining its time of deposition and sources is important to understand the Precambrian crustal evolution of the North china Craton. This paper suggests age distribution patterns for detrital zircons from clastic sediments of the Changcheng System in the Ming Tombs area, {2.. Samples of feldspar-bearing sandstone (CHc-2. and pure sandstone (CHc-9) were collected from the Changzhougou Formation, which constitutes the basal part of the Changcheng System. Detrital zircons show an age range from 2.3. to 2.60 Ga. However, sample CHc-9 in the upper Changzhougou Formation also contains some zircons with ages of 1.9-1.8 Ga and 2.3.2.1.Ga. The age patterns lead to the following conclusions: (1. Most of the detrital material came from a source area composed predominantly of ~2.5 Ga continental crust of the North china Craton; (2. 1.9-1.8 Ga reflects the age record of Palaeoproterozoic continent-continent collisional event in the North china Craton; and (3. the oldest age for deposition of the Changcheng System is 1.8 Ga.

An analysis of major and trace element geochemistry and shrimp U-Pb zircon dating of mafic, intermediate, and felsic rocks from the Mianning metamorphic complex of Si- chuan Province was conducted. One of our conclusions is that a majority of the zircons crystal- lized between 7{1. and 773.Ma in a magmatic regime. The complexes contain early to late Pa- leo-proterozoic relict zircons from ancient continental crust. The oldest age, {1.68 Ma, may rep- resent the basement of the Yangtze block. Overgrowth zircon rims and palingenetic zircons have been observed and dated, and are believed to have formed after crystallization, during Paleozoic and Mesozoic metamorphic-anatexis. We also conclude that depletion of Nb, Ta, HREE, in a spider-diagram normalized to primitive mantle and calc-alkaline association, implies that they formed in island-arc or under-plating settings.

The Nyainqêntanglha Group is traditionally viewed as the oldest metamorphic basement in the Lhasa block, but its formation age and tectonic setting remain debate. Zircons extracted from the metamorphic sequence of volcanics and intrusions of the Nyainqêntanglha Group, 1. km west of Nam Co in northern Lhasa block, have been investigated by cathodolu- minescence (CL), backscattered (BSE) and dated by ion microprobe (shrimp). We conclude that the U-Pb age of 787±9 Ma of zircons from the trondhjemite imposes a constraint on maxi- mum protolith age, and minimum formation age of the Nyainqêntanglha Group is constrained by U-Pb age of 748±8 Ma of zircons from the granite. The formation age of the Nyainqêntanglha Group is consistent with sedimentary age of Greater Himalayan rocks, showing that they devel- oped coevally in an arc-basin tectonic setting of Neoproterozoic active continental margin along the northern margin of the India shield. The inherited zircons from the tholetiite and granite give older {1.7Pb/{1.6Pb ages from 947 to 1.66 Ma. The positive εNd( t ) value indicates that the mafic rocks were derived from the depleted mantle, but contaminated by the older continental crustal material. Integrated Nd model age and U-Pb age data provide excellent evidence for the exis- tence of Mesoproterozoic basement in the Lhasa block during Neoproterozoic time.

The petrological and geochemical features of the bed parallel granitic intrusion in the Pre-Cambrian Baoban group in Hainan Island attest to the anatexis origin of the granites. U-Pb dating analyses of zircons from the anatectic granite and the biotite two-feldspar gneiss in the Baoban group, using shrimp II in the {1. Ion-probe Center, acquire 2.6Pb/2.8U ages of 3.8±3.5 Ma (of granite, 95% confidence level, MSDW=1.2.) and 3.2.9±6.1.Ma (of gneiss, 95% confidence level, MSDW = 2.04) respectively. The two late Devonian ages indicate consistently a tectonic- thermal event experienced in Hainan Island, and are the first discovered record of the Devonian geological process in the district. This event possibly resulted from the deep ther-mal-dynamic process when the Gondwana continent began to break up in the Devonian period.

The shrimp zircon U-Pb geochronology of three typical samples, including two monzo nitic granites from the Lincang batholith and a rhyolite from the Manghuai Formation are presented in the southern Lancangjiang, western Yunnan Province. The analyses of zircons for the biotite monzonitic granites from the northern (0{1.X-1.2}) and southern ({1.JH-1.) Lincang batholith show the single and tight clusters on the concordia, and yield the weighted mean {1.6Pb/{1.8U ages of {1.9.4 ± 3.0 Ma and {1.0.4 ± 3.6 Ma, respectively, representing the crystallized ages of these granites. The zircons for the rhyolitic sample (0{1.X-95) from the Manghuai Formation give a weighted mean {1.6Pb/{1.8U age of {1.1.0 ± 5.0 Ma. These data suggest that the igneous rocks from the Lincang granitic batholith and Manghuai Formation have a similar crystallized age. In combination with other data, it is inferred that both were generated at a narrow age span (~{1.0 Ma) and were originated from the postcollisional tectonic regime. An early Proterozoic {1.6Pb/{1.8U apparent age of 1.77±44 Ma is additionally obtained from one zircon from the biotite monzonitic granite (southern Lincang batholith), indicative of devel- opment of the early Proterozoic Yangtze basement in the region. These precisely geochronological data provide important constraints on better understanding the Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Tethys, western Yunnan Province.

Massive sulfide ore from the Jinchuan Ni-Cu-PGE deposit was dated by Re-Os technique using Carius Tube digestion, Os distillation, Re extraction by acetone and ICP-MS measurement. An isochron giving an age of 83. ± 3. Ma, initial 1.7Os/1.8Os ratio of 0.2.9 ± 0.01. (MSWD = 1.7) and γOs = 1.0} ± 1. is obtained. The Re-Os age obtained agrees, within analytical uncertainties, with previous shrimp zircon U-Pb age of 82. ± 8 Ma (n=5, MSWD = 4.3.. The result suggests that the deposit was formed at Neoproterozoic and that the formation of the Jinchuan Ni-Cu-PGE sulfide deposit may be closely related to the plume activity, which were attributed to the breakup of the Rodinia supercontinent. The high γOs of the massive ores sug-gests that crustal material was involved in the formation of the Jinchuan deposit, however, the quantity of the added crustal material is less than 1.%.

Through random sequencing, we found a total of 884000 base-pairs (bp) of random genomic sequences in the genome of Chinese shrimp (Fenneropenaeus chinensis). Using bio-soft Tandem Repeat Finder (TRF) software, {1.59 tandem repeats were found, in which there were 1.1. mi- crosatellites and 445 minisatellites, accounting for 79.4% and {1..6% of repeat sequences, respectively. The cumulative length of repeat sequences was found to be 1.6685 bp, ac- counting for 1.3}{1. of the total DNA sequence; the cumula- tive length of microsatellites occupied 9.78% of the total DNA sequence, and that of minisatellites occupied 3.4{1.. In decreasing order, the {1. most abundant repeat sequence classes were as follows: AT (557), AC (471., AG ({1.4), AAT (9{1., A (56), AAG ({1.), ATC ({1.), ATAG ({1.), AGG (1.), ACT (1.), C (1.), AAC (1.), ACAT (1.), CAGA (1.), AGAA (9), AGGG (7), CAAA (7), CGCA (6), ATAA (6), AGAGAA (6). Dinucleotide repeats, not only in the aspect of the number, but also in cumulative length, were the preponderant repeat type. There were few classes and low copy numbers of repeat units of the pentanucleotide repeat type, which included only three classes: AGAGA, GAGGC and AAAGA. The classes and copy numbers of heptanucleotide, eleven-nucleotide and thirteen-nucleotide primer-number-composed repeats were distinctly less than that of repeat types beside them.

Metabasites consisting of metamorphic ultra-mafic rocks, cumulate gabbro, gabbro (diabase), basalt, and plagiogranite are exposed at the Taoxinghu area in central Qiangtang, northern Tibetan Plateau. Zircon shrimp U-Pb dating for the cumulate gabbro yields a weighted mean age of 467±4 Ma, which is the oldest and most reliable magmatic age in this area. Zircon 1.6Hf/1.7Hf ratios range from 0.{1.{1.1. to 0.{1.{1.57, with εHf(t) values of 5.0{1.0.{1., indicating that the cumulate gabbro was mainly derived from the depleted mantle. In addition, geochemical data of metabasites suggest that they have similar characteristics to those in the mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB). The Taoxinghu metabasites may represent the fragment of Early Paleozoic ophiolite in the "Central Uplift" of the Qiangtang, northern Tibetan Plateau.

Fenneropaeneus chinensis is an important species in marine fishery resources and aquaculture in china. A genetic linkage map is essential for improving the efficiency of its breeding by marker-as- sisted selection and identifying commercially important genes. Linkage maps of F. chinensis were constructed with an F2.mapping population (110 progenies) using amplified fragment length polymor- phic (AFLP) marker in this study. Fifty-five AFLP primer combinations produced 53.1}AFLP markers fitting for map strategy in mapping family. The markers with 3.1 segregating ratios were analyzed using F2.intercross model for the common linkage map, while the markers with 1:1 ratio were analyzed using the pseudo-testcross strategy. The maps of male, female and common were constructed. The female map included 103.markers that formed 2. linkage groups, covering a total length of 1090 cM. All mark- ers were linked with the linkage groups. Segregation distortion was observed for 6 of 103.markers in the female map. The average distance between markers was 14.53.cM and ranged from 4.4 to 2..8 cM. The male map included 144 markers that formed 3. linkage groups. Ten markers remained unlinked in male map. Segregation distortion was observed for 7 of 144 markers in the male map. The total dis- tance of male map covered 1617 cM. The average distance between markers was 16.3. cM. The male map was 3.1}6% longer than the female map, which may reflect sex-specific recombination rates in Chinese {1.. The common map was composed of 2.6 markers, including in 44 linkage groups covering a total distance of 1772.1 cM. Two markers remained unlinked. No distorted markers of 2.6 markers were shown in the common map. The distance between markers was 10.42.cM. An average estimated genome size for the Chinese {1. was 2.2. cM, which was consistent with the relative size of the Penaeid genome.
