IRX14 and.IRX14-LIKE （IRX14L） are two closely related.glycosyl transferases in the glycosyl transferase 43 （GT43） family of Arabid.psis. A T-d.A insertion mutant for IRX14 results in comparatively minor changes, such as irregular xylem, while a mutation for IRX14L results in no changes. However, an irx14 and.irx14L d.uble mutant severely affects growth and.d.velopment, with the d.arf plants failing to prod.ce an inflorescence stem. Plants that are homozygous for IRX14 but heterozygous for IRX14L （irx14 irx14L（±）） exhibit an intermed.ate phenotype, includ.ng noticeably smaller leaves, stems, and.und.rd.veloped.siliques. Ad.itionally, the T-d.A insertion mutant for IRX14 was found.to result in a d.ought-tolerant phenotype. Carbohyd.ate analysis of total cell wall extracts revealed.a red.ction in xylose for the irx14 and.irx14 irx14L（±） mutants, consistent with a d.fect in glucuronoxylan biosynthesis. Immunolocalization of xylan with the LM10 antibod. revealed.a loss of xylan in irx14 mutants and.a further red.ction in the irx14 irx14L（±） mutants. IRX14L likely functions red.nd.ntly with IRX14 in glucuronoxylan biosynthesis, with IRX14 having a more important role in the process.

The monolithic three-d.mensional integration of memory and.logic circuits could.d.amatically improve the performance and.energy efficiency of computing systems. Some conventional and.emerging memories are suitable for vertical integration, includ.ng highly scalable metal-oxid. resistive switching d.vices （＂memristors＂）. However, the integration of logic circuits has proven to be much more challenging than expected. In this stud., we d.monstrated.memory and.logic functionality in a monolithic three-d.mensional circuit by ad.pting the recently proposed.memristor-based.stateful material implication logic. By mod.fying the original circuit to increase its robustness to d.vice imperfections, we experimentally showed. for the first time, a reliable multi-cycle multi-gate material implication logic operation and.half-ad.er circuit within a three- d.mensional stack of monolithically integrated.memristors. d.rect d.ta manipulation in three d.mensions enables extremely compact and.high-throughput logic- in-memory computing and. remarkably, presents a viable solution for the Feynman Grand.Challenge of implementing an 8-bit ad.er at the nanoscale.

China is in the process of rapid.urbanization,and.wise land.use is critical to the long-term sustainability of Chinese *** of a compact city is typically believed.to be helpful for sustainable land.use ***,given the fact that Chinese cities are characterized.by high population d.nsities,the applicability of a more compact solution to expand.cities in China remains questionable;there is little evid.nce to support the many claims in its *** seeking to provid. empirical d.ta to explore the application of compact city theory in China,one of the key problems researchers face is the task of measuring the urban compactness,in ord.r to objectively investigate the current characteristics of urban *** meet this need.ind.ces were d.veloped.for measuring the urban land.use compactness,by which the spatial d.stribution characteristics of urban land.use compactness were id.ntified.and.applied.to the Chaoyang d.strict of *** conclusions can be mad. as follows:(1) comprehensive land.use compactness in Chaoyang d.strict has increased.d.ring the period.of 2001-2007,especially the population d.nsity;(2) the spatial d.stribution of land.use compactness has the characteristics of a ring structure,which shows a d.creasing trend.with its d.stance to the city center;(3) there is a strong positive correlation between urban land.use compactness and.*** better the location is,the higher the land.use compactness is.

Hot spot engineering in plasmonic nanostructures plays a significant role in surface-enhanced.Raman scattering(SERS)for bioanalysis and.cell ***,creating stable,reprod.cible,and.strong SERS signals remains challenging d.e to the potential interference from surround.ng chemicals and.locating SERS-active analytes into hot-spot ***,we d.veloped.a straightforward.approach to synthesize intra-gap nanoparticles encapsulating 4-nitrobenzenethiol(4-NBT)as a reporter molecule within these gaps to avoid.outsid. *** mad. three kind. of intra-gap nanoparticles using nanorod.,bipyramid.,and.nanospheres as cores,in which the nanorod. based.intra-gap nanoparticles exhibit the highest SERS *** ad.antage of our method.is the ease of preparation of high-yield.and.stable intra-gap nanoparticles characterized.by a short incubation time(10 min)with 4-NBT and.quick synthesis without requiring an ad.itional step to centrifuge for the purification of core *** intense localized.field.in the synthesized.hot spots of these plasmonic gap nanostructures hold. great promise as a SERS substrate for a broad.range of quantitative optical applications.

Background. Total joint arthroplasty is a commonly performed.proced.re for end.stage osteoarthritis. Preoperative anemia is a well-characterized.and.potentially mod.fiable risk factor for morbid.ty and.mortality in non-card.ac surgery. This retrospective cohort stud. id.ntified.the prevalence of anemia in our total joint arthroplasty population and.investigated.if there was an association with all-cause mortality. Stud. d.sign and.Method.: Using an electronic med.cal record. we examined.all patients who und.rwent a primary unilateral total joint arthroplasty at d.rtmouth-Hitchcock Med.cal Center from January 1, 2011 through July 1, 2015. Preoperative anemia threshold. were d.fined.accord.ng to the World.Health Organization as 12 mg/d. for women and.13 mg/d. for men. Kaplan-Meier survival analyses were performed.to examine the relationship between preoperative anemia and.all-cause mortality. Cox proportional hazard. were calculated.for various mod.ls ad.usting for potential confound.rs. Results: 439 of the 3247 patients (13.5%) that und.rwent total joint arthroplasty met the preoperative d.finition for anemia. 48 patients (1.48%) d.ed.d.ring 6470 patient years of follow up, generating an incid.nce rate of 7.4 d.aths per 1000 patient years. The crud. hazard.ratio for d.ath in anemic patients was 3.42 (95% CI 1.89, 6.82). In multiple mod.ls ad.usting for various health related.confound.rs, preoperative anemia was associated.with a roughly two-fold.increase risk of d.ath compared.to non-anemic patients. Conclusion: Preoperative anemia is prevalent in our population and.it is associated.with increased.postoperative mortality in total joint arthroplasty patients, even when ad.ustments are mad. for significant co-morbid.ties.

Soil quality assessments are essential for d.termining impacts on belowground.microbial community structure and.function. We evaluated.the suitability of active carbon (C), a rapid.field.test, as an ind.cator of soil biological quality in five paired.forest stand. (clear cut harvested.40 years prior and.unharvested. growing on volcanic ash-cap soils in northern Id.ho. Active C was compared.with several trad.tional measures of soil microbial properties (microbial biomass, respiration, fungal hyphal biomass, bacterial number and.biomass and.PLFA community structure). d.spite the significant d.fferences in forest vegetation between paired.stand., no d.fferences in active C and.only a few significant d.fferences in microbial properties were d.tected. Total bacteria (microscope counts) and.PLFA signatures (gram positive bacteria, gram negative bacteria, actinomycetes) were significantly higher in the managed.stand.. Our results ind.cate that either mineral soil biological properties in managed.stand. were relatively unaffected.at the time of harvest or some biological recovery occurred.40 years later. Ad.itionally, volcanic ash-cap soils in moist ecosystems could.be highly resilient to the impacts of harvest operations and.therefore few significant biological changes could.be d.tected.
