Efficacy of Bee Products(Anzer Honey,Pollen and Propolis)in Detection and Healing of Damage Induced by Antidiabetic Drug Vildagliptin/Metformin Hydrochloride in Healthy Human Pancreatic Cells:Cytotoxic,Genotoxic and Biochemical Studies

Background and Objective Although drugs are powerful therapeutic agents,they have a range of side *** side effects are sometimes cellular and not clinically ***/metformin hydrochloride is one of the most widely used oral antidiabetic drugs with two active *** this study,we investigated its harmful effects on the metabolic activation system in healthy human pancreatic cells“hTERT-HPNE”,and we aimed to improve these harmful effects by natural *** benefit from the healing effect,we used the unique natural products produced by the bees of the Anzer Plateau in the Eastern Black Sea Region of *** Cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of the drug were investigated by different tests,such as MTT,flow cytometry-apoptosis and comet *** honey,pollen and propolis were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(G/C-MS).A total of 19 compounds were detected,constituting 99.9%of the *** The decrease in cell viability at all drug concentrations was statistically significant compared to the negative control(P<0.05).A statistically significant decrease was detected in the apoptosis caused by vildagliptin/metformin hydrochloride with the supplementation of Anzer honey,pollen and propolis in hTERT-HPNE cells(P<0.05).Conclusion This study can contribute to other studies testing the healing properties of natural products against the side effects of oral antidiabetics in human *** particular,Anzer honey,pollen and propolis can be used as additional foods to maintain cell viability and improve heal damage and can be evaluated against side effects in other drug studies.

Ocular findings in children with thalassemia major in Eastern Mediterranean

AIM: To investigate ophthalmologic findings in children with thalassemia major(TM) and compare the findings with healthy controls. ·METHODS: In a cross-sectional study,43 children with thalassemia major from pediatric hematology outpatient clinics from two university hospitals and age/sex matched 47 healthy children were included in the study. After a complete ophthalmic examination,tear function tests including the Schirmer test,fluorescein tear breakup time(BUT),ultrasound pachymetry,and axial length measurement were performed. Obtained data was recorded for statistical analysis and the values of right eyes were compared between groups. ·RESULTS: The mean best corrected visual acuity was 1.34 ±0.75 in TM and 1.08 ±0.28 in controls. It was found lower than 0.1 logMAR unit in 10(23.2%) children with TM and 2(4.2%) in controls,and the difference was statistically significant(P 0.05). The mean axial length was 22.53±0.50 in TM and 22.57±0.43mm in the control group. The mean Schirmer test score was 19.94±6.91 in TM and 24.22±3.95mm in the control group(P 0.05). ·CONCLUSION: In TM,while corneal thickness,axial length,and BUT are close to controls,the Schirmer scores are less than normal. The study revealed that TM may be affected by the tear function and visual acuity.

A highland reservoir in the West Black Sea region of Turkey which belongs to the Mediterranean climatic zone was *** littoral and profundal zones were sampled from October 2009 to September 2010,to determine taxonomic composition,biodiversity and abundance of benthic invertebrates as well as the seasonal variation of these measures.A total of 35 taxa were identified,of which 12 belong to Chironomidae and 10 to Oligochaeta *** highest diversity and abundance of benthic macroinvertebrates were found at the littoral *** showed significant positive correlations with water temperature and NO_2 and NO_3 concentrations,and negative correlation with dissolved oxygen.

SYNTHESES AND CHARACTERIZATION OF POLY(IMINOPHENOL)S DERIVED FROM 4-BROMOBENZALDEHYDE:THERMAL,OPTICAL,ELECTROCHEMICAL AND FLUORESCENT PROPERTIES

Schiff base monomers [2-（4-bromobenzylideneamino）phenol and 2-（4-bromobenzylideneamino）-5-methylphenol] were synthesized by the condensation reaction of 4-bromobenzaldehyde with aromatic aminophenols. Then, the monomers were converted to their polyphenol derivatives by oxidative polycondensation reactions （OP） in an aqueous alkaline medium. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by solubility tests, FT-IR, NMR, TG-DTA, DSC and SEC techniques. The HOMO-LUMO energy levels and electrochemical （E＇g） and optical （Eg） band gaps were calculated from cyclic voltammetry （CV） and UV-Vis measurements, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry （CV） was used to determine the electrochemical oxidation-reduction characteristics. Optical properties were investigated by UV-Vis and fluorescence analyses. Solid state electrical conductivities were measured on polymer films by four point probe technique using a Keithley 2400 electrometer. The effects of electron-donating （--CH3） group at p-position of --NH2 group in aminophenol on electrochemical and thermal properties were also discussed. Photoluminescence （PL） properties of the synthesized materials were determined in solution forms using different solvents. Fluorescence measurements were carried out in various concentrated solutions to determine the optimum concentrations to obtain the maximal PL intensities.

Effects of Material Properties and Punch Tip Radius on Spring-Forward in 90° V Bending Processes

Bending process is one of the most significant fields of application of sheet metal die. Sheet metals are ex posed to some spring back or spring-forward depending on elastic deformation following bending process. S235JR （1. 003 8） materials having a thickness of 4 mm were bent with 90° punches having 5 different tip radiuses. The ben- ding process was carried out by making the punch waited on the material for 30 s （30 s wait bending） and by remo ving the punch without waiting （direct bending）. Specimens were prepared in three forms as non-heat-treated, nor- malized and tempered. At the same time, all experiments were performed at a deformation speed of 25 mm/min. As a result, it was determined that as punch tip radius increased, the amount of spring-forward decreased. Although normalizing process applied to specimens increased the amount of spring-forward, tempering process decreased it. The amount of spring-forward was decreased in 30 s wait bending process.
