Pollutants in stormwater runoff in Shanghai (China): Implications for management of urban runoff pollution

Runoff samples were collected from four functional areas (traffic, residential, commercial and industrial) and four roof types (old concrete, new concrete, old clay and new clay) in central Shanghai, China, during rain events. The event mean concentrations (EMCs) of three forms of nitrogen eNH4tAN;NO3 AN;NO2 ANT and the temporal variations of total phosphorus (TP) were then measured to evaluate the effects of runoff from different areas on water quality management. The results revealed that the TP levels varied significantly in the samples collected from different functional areas and roof types during rain events. In addition, although the NO3 AN and NO2 AN concentrations in runoff remained well below the fifth class values of the national surface water quality standards, the NH4tAN levels were 1.36, 1.17, 1.10 and 0.85 times higher than the standard value in samples collected from commercial, traffic, industrial, and residential areas, respectively. Similarly, the concentrations of NH4tAN in samples collected from old concrete, new concrete, old clay and new clay roofs exceeded the fifth class standard by 6.66, 5.72, 4.32 and 3.32 times, respectively. And the NO3 AN levels were 1.86 and 1.53 times higher than the standard values in runoff samples collected from new and old concrete roofs, respectively.

The financial market volatility forecasting is regarded as a challenging task because of irreg ularity, high fluctuation, and noise. In this study, a multiscale ensemble forecasting model is proposed. The original financial series are decomposed firstly different scale components （i.e., approximation and details） using the maximum overlap discrete wavelet transform （MODWT）. The approximation is pre- dicted by a hybrid forecasting model that combines autoregressive integrated moving average （ARIMA） with feedforward neural network （FNN）. ARIMA model is used to generate a linear forecast, and then FNN is developed as a tool for nonlinear pattern recognition to correct the estimation error in ARIMA forecast. Moreover, details are predicted by Elman neural networks. Three weekly exchange rates data are collected to establish and validate the forecasting model. Empirical results demonstrate consistent better performance of the proposed approach.

Along with the network in China’s fast development, the network dissemination already becomes now the Chinese information one kind mainly to disseminate one of channels. Network technology enhancement, also has accelerated the public information in network flowing. When the public crisis event appears, very easily through the network fast dissemination, causes each kind of not good information to spread, causes panic in the public. This kind of phenomenon the western area that falls behind relatively in China especially is common. How to solve this problem has already become the urgent matter to the local governments of west China.

For solving these fuzzy models, fuzzy simulation and genetic algorithm are integrated to produce a hybrid intelligent algorithm. Finally, a numerical example is discussed.

＜正＞Fuzzy dominance is a relatively new concept for ranking fuzzy variables based on their credibility distributions. The second order fuzzy dominance is introduced against the backgrounds of studying economic behavior in finance and insurance under uncertainty in a fuzzy environment. In this paper, we made some remarks on the basic properties of the second order fuzzy dominance. As an illustration, the case of the second order fuzzy dominance for trapezoidal fuzzy variables is investigated.

Well-formed parenthesis （w.f.p.） strings can be represented by different types of integer sequences including P-sequences, X-sequences, and T-sequences. In this paper, we introduce a new class of sequences called L-sequences which comes from the so-called RD-sequences for representing k- ary trees. We then search out the relationships among these representations and deal with the problems of ranking and unranking of w.f.p. strings in lexicographic order under these diverse representations. A result shows that the ranking and unranking of w.f.p. strings can be done in O（n） time for all such representations, where n is the number of pairs of balanced parentheses.

＜正＞This paper deals with the problem of estimating parameters in Hidden Markov Models （HMMs）. An HMM consists of two chains, namely, the state chain and the observation chain. The problem becomes complicated when the size of the state chain is uncertain. The reversible jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo （MCMC） has been proven to be an effective method for handling such problems. This paper provides an extension of such method in HMMs.
