摘 要:The potential use of mineralisers as a possible means of energy conservation in cement manufacture is well established and its practice is fairly extensive in economically profitable situation. In the present paper, the industrial experience of using mineralisers for direct saving of energy has been reported through a few case studies. The cases reported are of both wet and semi-dry kiln systems of 300 - 600 TPD range as well as of the usage of fluoride, fluoro-silicate and sulphate compounds as the mineralisers. It has been shown from the actual energy results, how the effectiveness of mineralisers as a means of energy saving changes with the change in the base level performance of a given kiln system as well as how it changes from one kiln system to another. A case involving the direct saving of power due to increased absorption of pozzolana by improved mineralised clinker used in the manufacture of Portland pozzolana cement has also been high-lighted. The general problems encountered in the plant use of mineralisers have been specifically discussed. Finally a new technique based on firing shrinkage of kiln feed pellets has been reported, which is extremely helpful in selecting the appropriate mineraliser for a given kiln feed based on their thermo-chemical compatibility. It has been shown that this technique can be effectively used in predicting the changes in the course of lime combinability reactions with and without the use of mineralisers.
